Dear Sir/ Madam,
My name is Calvin Lee and I am currently an MSc Finance student at Imperial College Business School. Ihave previously obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College. Iam writing to apply for the Full Time Business Analyst position. I believe that my internship at BarclaysCapital London, combined with the analytical skills I am developing during my MSc Finance degree
make me a strong candidate for your group.
At McKinsey I can see that you place a great emphasis on producing innovative and breakthroughsolutions for clients to create lasting improvements in their performance. I share this value and during my
internship at Barclays Capital, I used my analytical skills to understand the complexity ofdecommissioning North Sea oil platforms and delivered an innovative solution to reduce
decommissioning costs for a client within a tight deadline of two weeks. I am also able to work withpeople at all levels in an organisation. During my internship with Minerva Advisors, apart from preparingpitch books alongside Junior Associates, I have pitched investment opportunities to executive clients.
This has also allowed me to utilise my strong communication skills, which will allow me to excel incompleting cross-border international projects, which are commonplace at McKinsey. My fluency inEnglish, Mandarin and Cantonese will be instrumental in expanding your Asian client base.
Speaking to Sing Kwan Ng, a Business Analyst in the Kuala Lumpur office has further motivated me to
apply to McKinsey. I learned about the commitment of McKinsey in placing client interests before thefirms. This pursuit for quality will require leadership, and I believe I am a good fit due to my experienceas an orchestral conductor, where I constantly challenged my team to greater heights and managed to lead
them to perform at Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. He also informed me about the strong
culture of teamwork and respect within the firm. I can contribute to this environment by sharing myexperiences of working on cross-border deals with people from various backgrounds, and also fresh
perspectives on problem solving due to my international and multicultural background.
