To whom it may concern,
I am applying for the Psychology Instructor position.
I am currently a Ph.D. (ABD) in Cognitive Psychology at The New School for Social Research, NYC, where I have
been working with Dr. Arien Mack (Mack & Rock, 1998) on the psychophysics of consciousness, attention and
inattention, and unconscious processing in the Visual Perception and Cognition Laboratory for the past seven years.
This month, I am defending my dissertation entitled “On Visual Sensory Memory for Natural Scenes”, in which I
look at the role iconic memory plays in natural scene perception. I have specialized in and published work on
inattentional blindness (along with Dr. Tony Ro at City College New York and Dr. Arien Mack; please see
attached).
I am currently an adjunct professor teaching online as well as onsite courses on Perception at William Paterson
University, Wayne, New Jersey, USA to undergraduates. I have been teaching similar cognitive psychology and
perceptual psychology courses for three years now at The New School and William Paterson, and they have been
hugely popular with students (as evidenced by student evaluations of the classes). I am also currently teaching an
undergraduate class on the neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy of consciousness at The New School. I have a
lot of experience planning and designing courses using different online class platforms, especially BlackBoard and
Canvas.
While teaching is very important to me, I am also active in the Visual Perception lab, where I was Dr. Mack’s
Senior Research Assistant and Lab Manager for a number of years. This experience has been invaluable in my
developing skills in designing and running experiments (using programming software Superlab 5 and PsychoPy), as
well as analyzing data (using SPSS) and creating stimuli (using Adobe Photoshop).
I am very passionate about and committed to teaching and research, and I spend a lot of time reading and keeping up
to date on what is going on in my field and related fields so that what I teach is always up to date and well informed.
I hope you find my resume and other documents interesting.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Jason P. Clarke
