The Nordson Level controller automatically monitors and controls thefeed of virgin material to powder coating systems. It eliminates the needfor manual powder filling of the hopper, minimising spillage and dusthazards.

By maintaining a constant level of powder in the hopper, this provides aconstant gun output and film thickness.

The unit is primarily designed for use with the Nordson feed from the boxsystem, it has an electric supply for a vibrator, a regulated air supply forthe Nordson transfer pump and comes complete with a simple to mountsensor for fitting to the side of the powder hopper.

Internal to the unit are connections for a remote annunciator, startedwhen the powder level in the hopper has not been restored before apreset time has expired. A mute control on the front panel allows theoperator to silence the alarm, while an integral illumination of the switchprovides indication that the powder level has not been restored in thehopper.

The Level controller may be installed in both new and retrofit systems. Itis supplied in a Nordson Versa Style casing which may be removed to fitthe controller into Nordson 19 rack units.

WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform theinstallation. Observe safety instructions.

1. Connect the air supply to the 1/4 fitting on rear of unit.

NOTE: The air must be clean and dry at 100 psi maximum, filteredto 5µ or 2 _C dewpoint, oil free. The air pressure must not exceed6.9 bar / 0.69 MPa /100 psi.

2. Connect the air supply from the output 1/4 BSP fitting on thecontroller to the transfer pump.

3. If using in conjunction with an Easy-Feed Powder Transfer System, connect this to the terminals (Live - 2, Earth - 5B, Neutral - 7B)indicated on the circuit schematic located at the back of this Manual.

4. If using an external annunciator, connect this to the terminals(Live - 11, Earth - 12, Neutral - 7A) indicated on the circuit schematiclocated at the back of this Manual.

5. Connect a suitable earth to the connection point on the outside of thecabinet provided.

6. The level probe requires an M30 clearance hole for mounting. Theprobe should be located approximately half-way between themaximum and minimum desired levels in the hopper. Ideally theminimum amount of powder should be held in the hopper allowing forconsumption by the system whilst changing and emptying virgin feedcontainer.

7. Connect the level probe to the controller.

8. Connect the controller to a suitable electrical supply.

9. Turn on the external supplies.

10. Turn the air supply regulator for no air flow.

11. Ensure the hopper is empty of powder.

12. Turn on the Supply On/Off switch.

13. The sensor will activate the level controller, although the air supplyhas been turned off.

6. Setting up the Unit

Page 25: COV EN 768606A - Nordsonemanuals.nordson.com/finishing/files/Stockport/768606A.pdf · 2006-08-17 · Slovak Republic 4205-4722 1955 4205-4722 1977 Spain 34-96-313 2090 34-96-313 2244

14. Adjust the sensitivity of the sensor using a small screwdriver.

NOTE: The total movement of the controls are 270_, any excessiveforce will cause damage.

15. The sensor LED will be showing GREEN, turn the timer fullyanti-clockwise to turn off the delay times.

16. With no material around the sensor, rotate the calibration rangecontrol clockwise until the LED changes to RED. Slowly rotate thecalibration range control clockwise until the LED changes to GREEN.Optimum setting is then usually achieved by rotating the control afurther 10_anti-clockwise.

17. The air supply to the powder pump can be turned up to the requiredlevel for powder transfer.

18. Adjust the timer control to its mid-point position.

19. When the powder is detected, the GREEN LED will commenceflashing RED, indicating that the material has been sensed and thetime delay before stopping the transfer is now operating. When thedelay has elapsed, the LED will be RED.

20. As powder is used from the system, the sensor will detect the drop inlevel, the LED will flash GREEN showing that the time delay beforeactivating the transfer is now operating. When the delay has elapsed, the LED will be GREEN.

21. Steps 18 and 19 are the normal cycle of operation.

22. Adjust the time delay as required for optimum operation, it is better tohave the longest possible on/off transfer periods for best operation.

23. Should, during the course of operation, the supply of virgin powderrun out and the level in the hopper has not been restored by a pre-settime, the low level alarm will activate. This is an illuminated button onthe front panel and, if fitted, an external annunciator. The externalannunciator can be muted by pressing the illuminated button, thebutton will extinguish as soon as there is the correct level of powderin the hopper.

24. The time for activation of the low level alarm is adjusted by means ofa timer located inside the controller, it is factory-set to approximatelyone (1) minute.

6. Setting up the Unit (contd.)

Section 7Parts

To order parts, call the Nordson Customer Service Center or your localNordson representative. Use the parts list, and the accompanyingillustration, to describe and locate parts correctly.

Numbers in the Item column correspond to numbers that identify parts inillustrations following each parts list. The code NS (not shown) indicatesthat a listed part is not illustrated. A dash () is used when the partnumber applies to all parts in the illustration.

The number in the Part column is the Nordson Corporation part number.A series of dashes in this column (- - - - - -) means the part cannot beordered separately.

The Description column gives the part name, as well as its dimensionsand other characteristics when appropriate. Indentions show therelationships between assemblies, subassemblies, and parts.

Item Part Description Quantity Note

 000 0000 Assembly 1

1 000 000 S Subassembly 2 A

2 000 000 S S Part 1

S If you order the assembly, items 1 and 2 will be included.S If you order item 1, item 2 will be included.S If you order item 2, you will receive item 2 only.

The number in the Quantity column is the quantity required per unit, assembly, or subassembly. The code AR (As Required) is used if thepart number is a bulk item ordered in quantities or if the quantity perassembly depends on the product version or model.

Letters in the Note column refer to notes at the end of each parts list.Notes contain important information about usage and ordering. Specialattention should be given to notes.
