We know that life can be a bumpy road and all sorts of circumstances can get in the way of your academic achievement. Equity scholarships are our way of rewarding talented students from a range of backgrounds, including students whose ability might have been masked by their circumstances.

More than 1000 scholarships are awarded to new students every year through our equity programs. This symbol will help you recognise our many scholarships that take your circumstances into account as part of the selection process.

I was surprised at the amount of extracurricular opportunities available to me as a scholarship holder. I was invited to apply for the Monash Minds leadership program and was accepted. I was then able to be part of a Monash delegation to Redfern in Sydney to be a mentor at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence. Since then, I’ve been able to use my Monash Minds experience to apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Ancora Imparo program, which I was also accepted into.”

Receiving this scholarship relieves so many of the stresses and pressures I’d otherwise have as a medical student. With the financial pressure of my course significantly reduced, I’m able to devote more time to my studies. My scholarship also allows me to get much more involved in my community by volunteering and becoming a student representative in groups which particularly interest me. Without the opportunity of this scholarship, I might not have been able to be part of the Monash community. Before coming to Australia I lived in Afghanistan, a war-torn country where people are not safe, they’re homeless, and many have lost their children, siblings or parents. My dream, which I’ve had since I was a child, is to build structures that are not only safe, but cheap enough that one day everyone can afford to own them. I want to help bring a change to society, that in the near future there’ll be no people homeless due to disaster or financial difficulties.”
