“Weird  and  Wonderful”  

Idea 1 The  ;tle  of  my  brief  is  “weird  and  wonderful”.    I  want  to  focus  on  two  models  being  myself  and  a  friend.  The  weird  part  of  the  set  of  photographs  would  be  makeup  and  the  dark  clothes  on  the  models.    The  wonderful  part  would  be  the  unknown  area.    The  area  that  my  photographs  will  be  taken  in  would  be  a  forest  area,  where  there  is  also  a  strange  brick  wall  that  must  of  been  apart  of  a  building  before.      I  want  the  models  to  be  dressed  in  black  and  white  only  to  create  a  strange  gothic  look.    They  won’t  look  overly  gothic  as  I  want  to  make  it  look  as  if  they  are  trying  to  be  something  they  are  not.    The  makeup  will  be  black  and  red  and  I  want  to  focus  mostly  on  the  eyes  to  draw  aFen;on  to  the  emo;ons  in  their  eyes.    I  want  the  models  to  also  have  s;tched  affect  on  their  faces  just  to  build  the  weird  part  of  weird  and  wonderful.      I  want  to  develop  my  photos  mostly  on  Photoshop  but  I  want  to  use  other  techniques  such  as  projec;ons,  and  Photoshop  overlaying.    

Betsy  Vanlangen  For  my  first  brief  I  will  be  focusing  on  Betsy  Valangen.  She  is  a  photographer  who  photographs  portraits  of  people,  but  she  explores  them  in  a  different  way.    Vanlangen’s  photography  consists  of  portraits  of  both  men  and  women,  covering  their  faces,  in  these  two  photos  she  uses  black  felt  pen  to  cover  their  faces  but  as  you  can  see  it  is  the  models  drawing  on  themselves  and  each  other,  I    like  this  technique  as  it  is  like  they  are  trying  to  hid  their  iden;ty  or  it  is  also  like  they  are  showing  their  emo;ons  and  unspoken  words  through  their  skin.  In  other  photos  of  Vanlangen’s  she  covered  models  in  a  range  of  different  objects  like  food,  paper,  gliFer,  paint,  s;ckers.  It  also  appears  that  she  uses  the  same  2  models  in  most  of  her  photography,  but  she  mostly  uses  the  female.    The  way  in  which  I  will  recreate  Vanlangen’s  ideas  will  be  to  write  and  draw  paper  and  overlay  it  on  pictures  of  me  and  the  other  model  to  create  the  same  kind  of  effect.  What  I  also  want  to  do  is  show  the  models  in  my  photography  with  strange  makeup  on  as  if  they  have  been  drawn  on,  like  in  theses  photos  but  I  won’t  be  covering  the  whole  face.  

Idea  2  For  my  second  set  of  photos  I  planned  to  take  a  set  of  photographs  with  ‘Weird’  clothing  on,  something  that  you  would  not  see  anyone  wear,  which  links  into  the  fashion  brief.      I  also  plan  to  use  one  model.  I  will  take  these  set  of  photographs  in  the  morning  as  the  lightening  out  side  will  be  brighter  and  I  want  these  set  photographs  to  be  as  bright  as  possible  in  natural  light.    As  Iain  Crawford  is  my  focus  ar;st  so  I  will  try  to  recreate  his  techniques.  But  using  photographs  of  space  such  as  different  galaxies  and  milky  ways  which  makes  it  weird  and  wonderful  together.    For  my  developmental  set  I  will  print  the  pictures  and  overlay  them  with  bright  pastel  chalk  dus;ngs  and  shaFered  glass.    I  want  the  photos  to  raise  ques;ons,  such  as  is  it  meant  to  look  like  a  different  universe.  

Iain  Crawford  For  my  second  brief  I  will  be  look  at  Iain  Crawford  a  famous  fashion  photographer.    He  focuses  on  beauty  and  self  portraits.  Crawford’s  photography  consists  on  mostly  portraits,  but  he  shows  the  models  covered  in  something,  such  as  paint,  over  they  are  wrapped  in  materials.  All  photography  of  Crawford’s  is  taken  in  a  studio  using  ar;ficial  light.  All  photographs  show  only  one  model  in  each  photo  which  is  what  I  will  also  do.  These  photographs  show  the  models  covered  in  different  brightly  covered  pastel  chalks,  which  is  one  technique  that  I  would  like  to  explore,  but  I  will  photography  the  model  normally  wearing  clothing  that  you  wouldn't  be  normal  to  wear.    I  want  to  collect  photographs  of  galaxies  and  space  as  they  show  a  similarity  to  make-­‐up  on  the  model’s  face  in  the  photography.  I  will  also  create  the  chalk  effect  on  paper  using  bright  colours  and  photographing  it  and  then  overlaying  on  the  photographs  of  the  models.  For  this  brief  i  want  to  focus  on  these  two  photographs.
