DESCRIPTION

Teaching online classes requires an additional set of skills on the part of the instructor compared to teaching face-to-face classes. In addition to being the content expert and an expert at using learning management system tools, the instructor must also know how to develop engaging content and course activities that enable students to learn without being in the same room or computer lab as the instructor. Teaching online means the instructor is more often a facilitator, responding to questions and guiding students to the appropriate resources. Additionally, the way the content is organized and presented in the online course may very well determine how successful the students will be. With more than 15 years working with and training faculty to teach online, the speaker will present key elements of effective online courses based on best practices and on the speaker’s experience as an online instructor.
