Mines Rescue has nearly 100 years’ experience assisting the mining industry to manage risk and operate safely. To ensure the highest quality standards, Mines Rescue plays a pivotal role in training through its Registered Training Organisation, offering training programs that have been developed by mining and emergency response professionals with national qualifications. The Generic Underground Induction course equips students with the required skills and knowledge to be able to enter the coal mining industry in both NSW and QLD to pursue a career as an underground coal mine operator working under direct supervision. The course also covers the requirements of QLD Standard 11 and the Underground Coal Mine Safety Skill Set (RIISS00033). Upon successful completion of this course, students will gain skills and knowledge in: z Communication z WHS requirements z Hazard identification/risk control z Underground work environment awareness (including plan reading) z Self-escape equipment and procedures z General equipment and machinery awareness z Firefighting z General industry terminology Refresher Components of this course require refreshers as per Clause 100 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2014 (NSW). Entry requirementsNo formal previous learning is required for this course however Mines Rescue encourages students to gain knowledge and experience of the policies and procedures of their workplace before starting the course.

It is acknowledged that this is a course based on a Certificate II level qualification that requires appropriate levels of language, literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, on-course activities and assessment tasks.

Other informationThis course includes training in the operation of a simulator oxygen generating self-contained self-rescuer to comply with Clause 100 (4) of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2014 (NSW).
