TEACHER: Khanh Tran

CONFERENCE PERIOD AVAILABLE: A2 and B4 by appointment through Guidance Office

INTRODUCTION / COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This class is an intermediate course to general techniques of sculpture such as carving, modeling,

bonding, and building. One process of casting will also be explored. The compositional elements of mass,

volume, subject matter, and repetition will be stressed.

Students will also explore working in life-size portraiture in-the-round, which will further strengthen their

observational skills. This will be an opportunity to express personal concepts and self identity.

COURSE OUTLINE: Projects

o Mask and Head-dress: cold-set plaster bandages, expanding foam, epoxy clay, and other various

materials for surface treatment.

o Portrait (bust): low-fire clay, found objects, and brown shoe polish, graphite, or bronze patina for

surface treatment.

EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS: Art books, videos, and slide presentations of artists and past student works.

STUDENT EVALUATION: Written tests and individual and/or group critiques of projects.

CLASSWORK POLICY: Sculpture project and most assignments will be developed in class with teacher and

peer direction.

HOMEWORK POLICY: Sketchbook assignments will be worked on at home and periodically checked in class.

submitted to your Art Advisor (TBA).

SAFETY NETS: Open Studio Hours are available on Mondays to students if they need extended time on their

project, or if they need to make-up an absence. The session begins at 3:30 pm and ends at 5:00pm.
