Module description

The purpose of this module is to prepare CDS members for professional communication and effective presentation at international conferences. The course participants will train relevant spoken language skills and learn useful phrasings and vocabulary for conference settings.

Intended Outcomes

On completion of the module, participants will have:

(i) Improved their presentation skills and delivery(ii) Developed more confidence in their spoken English when

presenting at international conferences

1. Getting started: Effective openings2. Signposting3. Transition signals4. Expressing your opinion5. Questions & Answers6. Creating a persuasive argument and body language7. Pronunciation/Oral delivery8. Using visuals9. Social English/Networking10. Chairing/Hosting11. Conference simulation (optional)

RequirementsSuccessful completion of this course will be based on:1. attendance (with a maximum of two missed classes allowed)2. participation in group-related work,3. completion of home assignments, 4. a 10-minute presentation.
