3. Units Offered in 2013
(NOTE: amendments may be made to unit availability depending on student demand.)
Prerequisite units are shown in “Other Information” column. Prerequisite units must be completed before enrolling.
If you choose units that are not listed above or you do not choose the recommended mix of units then you may find that you cannot complete your course in minimum time and that you may encounter problems with your timetable.
This is a note for students in the BTBA who want to be History teachers.
Students who want Modern History as a second teaching area, must choose 4 units of Modern History (only two at 100-level). Students who want Ancient History as a second teaching area should choose 4 units of Ancient History (only two at 100-level). [Note that HIST216 Medieval Europe counts a Modern History unit; HIST308 Historiography counts as either Modern or Ancient History.] Please note: Modern and Ancient History are treated as the single discipline area of “History” in the Curriculum and Teaching stream. Therefore, in addition to history, you must have a second, non-history teaching discipline area in your Arts units.
This is a note for students in the BTBA who want to be Economics/Business Studies teachers.
The sequence of Economics discipline and curriculum units are a qualification to teach Economics/Commerce only. To qualify for Business Studies, you will need to seek advice from your Course Coordinator.

Sequences
Education Studies (8 units)
The Education Studies major is a sequence of 8 units which covers key areas in education theory to introduce students to the language, concepts and understandings of practice within the field of education.
Curriculum Studies (6 units)
The curriculum studies major is a sequence of 6 units:
These comprise a generic teaching skills unit, a unit on the literacy demands of different curriculum areas, four curriculum units, two for each teaching subject. The subjects match the major and one minor subject of the Arts sequence being selected from areas such as English, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, History, Computing, Technology and Religious Studies. Choice depends on what is being offered on the different campuses.
Arts Sequences (16 units)
These enable individual students to choose to study two or three disciplines in the liberal arts in conjunction with the Bachelor of Arts program. Students are required to take studies in two discipline areas that correlate with curriculum studies in those two areas.
Students can complete either:
A Visual Arts major plus a Visual Arts minor plus an Arts minor in a second teaching subject or
1 Visual Arts major plus 1 Arts minor (second teaching subject) plus 4 elective units.
N.B. the first option is strongly recommended.
Professional Experience including Community Engagement and Internship (2 Units)

Includes day a week visits in Semester 1
Community Engagement end of year
4 week practicum Mid year
5 school visits
10 week internship second semester
In Place - Placement Management System for Education Students
The Faculty of Education at Australian Catholic University (ACU) is implementing InPlace, a placement management system which streamlines registration, requests, and allocation of professional and community engagement placements.
InPlace will provide education students with greater access to information relating to their Professional Experience placements. Students enrolling in Professional Experience units, with an EDFX, ADFX and SDFX code, will be able to register and access allocated placement records online.
Key benefits from InPlace include:
Online registration for placements
Ease in updating professional/community placement information
Ability to receive placement notifications online
Access placement allocations online
InPlace is based on Student Connect data. You will no longer have to fill forms manually for placements. In order that “best match” placements are made, please ensure that your personal details, including address and mobile phone number is current and up to date in Student Connect. To update your details log on to Student Connect (http://students.acu.edu.au/136953).
Note: Mandatory documentation such as Working with Children Checks/Police Checks will still need to be lodged in person at your local Professional Experience Placement Office.
