COURSE BOOK EVALUATION

For several English teachers it is quite difficult to select the appropriate lesson or

activity, others might complain whether use the course book or not. Others just decide

to pick certain activities in it and adapt some exercises according to students’ level.

During my attendance to schools throughout these years as a pre-service teacher, I have

collaborated with many teachers who have different styles of teaching. For instance, one

of them was very strict in following the course book units, but others did not use it at

all.

As a future English teacher, I think that it is essential to consider the course book

in every level; there are several activities and interesting topics to work with. However,

through this assignment I learned that it is more convenient to adopt and adapt or even

reject some activities if we work with the course book in order to model them based on

our students needs. Additionally, I believe that this will be part of our professional

development when deciding what is more important to teach first, which makes us more

critical at the moment of choosing the most appropriate activity. As a conclusion, I

would say that course books are good resources to rely on, but one thing we have to be

worry about is to depend one hundred per cent from them.
