You may have noticed more flat screen televisions in local businesses showcasing the Shire’s attractions.

The televisions are linked to a digital marketing platform that is managed by the Council. The platform allows for different information to be published to each television.

Local businesses have partnered with Council in allowing the televisions to be located at their premises.

At the moment televisions are located at Bethungra Olde School T-House, Junee Post Office, Licorice and Chocolate Factory, Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club, Junee Motor Inn, the Library, Broadway Museum and the Recreation Centre.

Other local businesses have signed up too, so the television can make their way around to new locations.

SPRING 2017

On Saturday, 21st October, the staff at the Junee Junction Recreation and Aquatic Centre ran the inaugural Junee Ultimate Ninja obstacle course, as a part of it’s Spring Promotion.

The purpose of the event was to raise much needed funds for Junee’s Can Assist branch, as well as promoting a fit and healthy lifestyle.

The event saw 12 teams from throughout the Shire, battle it out in a series of fun and at times, tough obstacles to be crowned the Ultimate Ninja’s.

Team Wolf Pack took out the top Senior team spot, with an impressive time of only 4min and 4 sec, with our Junior team winner the Alpha Pack, completing the course in 5min and 24sec.

As a result of this successful day, the Centre was able to raise more than $1,000 for Junee Can Assist, which was a fantastic effort.

Planning is already under way for the 2018 Junee Ultimate Ninja event, with new and exciting obstacles to be included.

Keep an eye out in the coming months on our Website and Facebook page for the announcement of the date for next years event!

JUNEE RECREATION CENTRE RAISES MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR JUNEE CAN ASSIST

Eurongilly has always been a strong, connected community and that trend is continuing with a committed group of local people making plans for Eurongilly’s future.

The school, local hall and recreation reserve are all vital community facilities that serve as venues where the local community can get together, socialise, interact and, when needed, help each other out. Countless studies show that these local “meeting places” are important in strengthening a community, making people more resilient to hardships which may come up from time to time.

Fiona Rankin is just one of many committed Eurongilly residents who are putting their time and energies into making Eurongilly the place to be, now and into the future. Fiona is excited about what the future may hold. “Eurongilly is a supportive and engaged community and we always know that when events are held here there will be a great turnout.

Everybody helps each other and that’s one of the reasons we are working so hard on plans to upgrade the hall and recreation reserve.”

Next time you see an event or activity being held at Eurongilly, check it out, but be careful, you may want to keep on coming back!

SPRING 2017

In August this year, the Council invited tenders for the collection of residential, village and business mobile garbage bins and at its September Ordinary Meeting, the Council resolved to accept Cleanaway Pty Ltd’s offer for these services.

The new contract will commence on or about the 1st of January, but in preparation for the start of this new partnership, the Council will be working with Cleanaway to review collection days in order to achieve the most efficient routes and collection schedule.

This may result in a change to the collection day for your garbage, recycling or food and garden organic (FOGO) waste bins.

Prior to any changes being made, the Council together with Cleanaway will undertake an educational campaign to inform our residents and businesses of

any changes and to remind households and business houses of what goes in which bin.

This is in response to a recent audit which found that Junee Shire had the highest rates among REROC councils of contamination in its co-mingled recycling bin, far eclipsing the nearest rival for this unwelcome title. The number of services a household or business is entitled to will also come under examination and the Council’s records will be strictly enforced. What does this mean?

If you utilise more than one bin for any of the three waste streams (household waste, recycling or FOGO) and are not paying for that service, either you need to contact the Council to have the service added to your property or get used to using one bin for each waste stream.

NEW CONTRACTOR FOR KERBSIDE WASTE COLLECTION

$5 MILLION - TOWARDS SEWERAGE TREATMENT PLANTThe NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian visited Junee in August to announce that Junee would be receiving $5 million towards the construction of its new Sewerage Treatment Plant.

After an anxious time waiting for the Government to determine Council’s request for funding towards the new treatment plant - the news was certainly welcomed.

The new treatment plant will not only accommodate the expanded correctional centre, it will provide capacity for the expected growth in Junee’s population over the next 30 years.

Council is proceeding with the tender for the construction of the new treatment plant and work is likely to commence early next year.
