FROM CONCEPT TO REALITYIt all started with a challenge : finding an alternative to the use of real stone due to its inherent weight & brittleness. Yet, business jet customers want a sophisticated look and feel as close as possible to marble or granite. Since 2007, Safran has developed and qualified Corian® as an innovative alternative solution to meet this demand.

With over a decade of experience in business aviation interiors, the unique countertop manufacturing process that Safran developed has been brought to maturity and adapted for large scale industrialization. AERONAUTICS REQUIREMENTS : Safran has overcome the challenge to comprehensively certify materials that were available for home interiors design but not yet for commercial jet cabin. Avant-garde design with a whole new array of possibilities are now available thanks to this innovative breakthrough.

CLEANLINESS : Solid surface material is antimicrobial and easy to clean, like sinks and work decks at home. Stains, including coffee and others discolora-tion, will be a topic of the past.

MAINTAINABILITY : Solid surface are highly scratch and impact resistant. After years in service, if desired, the material can be resurfaced with a light re-polish or a simple sanding operation

to bring the unit back to its original appearance. With Safran countertops, extreme service abuse become a breeze to fix as the material color is throughout, not just a top coat or a paint which would not allow the possibility.

UNLIMITED SHAPES & PATTERNS : Building countertops out of solid surface layers offers endless design possibilities. Layers of different colors can be joined together to bring to life concept never possible before. Surface can be engraved & filled with color with pinpoint accuracy to incorporate images & logos. Sink geometries are not limited anymore since molds are no longer required.

WEIGHT REDUCTION :Safran has performed in depth development to obtain the perfect material combination for the lightest countertops with no compromise on the robustness. Depending on geometry, solid surface countertops are equivalent, or lesser in weight than injection molded countertops, while bringing resistance to impact to another order of magnitude.

LED LIGHTING :Using different layers of opaque & translucide solid surface material, opens a whole new world for pioneer designers. Solid surface thicknesses variation permits to integrate light patterns, logos, etc…

INDUCTION CHARGING :Corian® is a material that’s permeable to induction current. All it takes to charge an electronic compatible device is to place it on the countertop surface that incorporates the functionality.

This feature is useful for passengers and cabin crew who are managing in-flight duties with tablets from galley area.
