Our Community NewsGreen Waste Kerbside Collection – May 2019The Shire will soon be undertaking a green waste kerbside collection which has been scheduled to follow the Easter/ANZAC holiday period. It will be one of two collections for 2019, with the second collection scheduled for October.

A letter with more information is being sent shortly to residents currently receiving a waste collection service.

Recycling Workshops - What Goes Into What Bin!Talented low waste living advocate, Karla Hooper (aka Earth Girl), is holding three recycling education workshops on behalf of Avon Waste, details as follows:

Projects UpdateSt John Ambulance Centre Woodridge Under Construction

Construction of the new Woodridge St John Ambulance Sub-Branch Facility is well under way. The Shire of Gingin has contributed $75,000 towards the new build which will include a training hall, showers and toilets, volunteer rest room, lockers, front desk, and roomy garages for the vans.

The $75k contribution has been made up of $25,000 toward earthworks and $50,000 toward construction. The Shire, along with Bendigo Bank, is proud to be supporting this project.

Farewell to Volunteer AmboWoodridge volunteer, Allan Macaskill, is retiring after 12 years of distinguished years with St John Ambulance. Although he may be stepping down from his road role, he will continue to be an active supporter for the organisation. Thank you Allan for your years of dedicated service to our community.

Council DecisionsThe following decisions were made by Council at the Shire’s February Ordinary Meeting:

• Minutes of Coastal Erosion Working Group meeting from 29 November – received by Council with amendments.

• Call Expressions of Interest for lessee to facilitate a medical practice from the Gingin Medical Centre and formation of a Working Group – approved by Council with amendment. Please note updates concerning this matter will be posted to the Shire’s website, Facebook page and advertised on the Gingin notice boards and in local papers as and when they come to hand.

• Accept proposed site for new Guilderton and Districts Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Fire Shed to be located at Lot 119 Paperbark Avenue, Redfield Park and advertise location for community feedback – approved by Council.

• Accept proposed site for new Collocation Level 3 Incident Control Centre Facility for Gingin South Bushfire Brigade and Volunteer Fire Rescue Service to be located at 24 Old Mooliabeenee Road, Gingin and advertise location for community feedback – approved by Council.

• Adoption of Bushfire Risk Management Plan (2019- 2024) – approved by Council.

• Request to advertise the Golden Beach Structure Plan for Lot 2 Seabird Road, Breton Bay – approved by Council.

Projects UpdateLedge Point Gazebo Rebuilt

Nice work! The gazebo at Key Biscayne Park in Ledge Point – which was damaged in a storm last winter – has finally been rebuilt and is now open for the public to enjoy. The project included:

• a reinforced structural design to resist substantial wind loading at Ledge Point • construction of Colorbond roof sheeting, H3 treated timber truss, hot dipped galvanised steel columns and reinforced concrete footings, and LED sensory lighting • installation of two BBQs

Midwest Builders were awarded the contract and took four months to complete the work at a cost of $46,446 which was covered by our insurers. Thanks to our community for your patience while the project was under way.
