What better way to celebrate the versatility of paper this school holidays than through paper planes?

The Museum of the Riverina’s current exhibition Writtenworlds sheds light on its paper-based collection, with Paper Pilot and former world paper plane champion James Norton set to share his

secrets on the perfect paper plane.

Mr Norton will land at the Historic Council Chambers at 10.30am on Friday 17 April to teach children aged from five to 11 years the basics of paper plane engineering.

The interactive workshop is a great way to demonstrate aerodynamics, physics,

and geometry, plus exploring different materials and their properties.

The workshop costs $5 per child and bookings can be made by contacting the Museum on 6926 9655 or emailing [email protected]. All children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Come and celebrate National Youth Week at the Wagga Wagga City Library.

In partnership with Sustainable Wagga, the library will host a clothing exchange in the children’s area on 15 April from 5.30pm to 7pm.

If you are a young woman aged between 14 and 20 years then this fashion exchange event is for you. Bring along up to six quality items of clothing or fashion accessories and for each item you will be givena button, which is used to purchase other items.

If you have a wardrobe full of fabulous fashion pieces you no longer have a use for, then swap them at the fashion exchange and get a taste of someone else’s style.

Clothing that is not exchanged on the evening will be donated to the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Auxiliary Op Shop.

Light refreshments will be provided. To RSVP, email [email protected] with the subject line “Fashion Exchange” or call 6926 9700.

• • • •Before the new Blinky Bill film hits cinemas later in

the year, come along to the library this April school holidays and catch up on the original 1992 film adaption of Dorothy Wall’s classic book by the Yoram Gross Film Studio.

Join Blinky Bill as he sets out on a quest to find his displaced mother after his home is destroyed by deforestation.

Also screening is the sci-fi classic Tron. Released in 1982, this Walt Disney film follows the adventures of computer software engineer Kevin Flynn who is transported into his computers digital mainframe and forced to participate in gladiatorial games.

Blinky Bill: The Mischievous Koala will screen on Wednesday 8 April at 10.30am. Tron will be showing on 15 April at 10.30am. Both screenings are free.

High-flying antics set to entertain at ALLSTARS

The first performance of the Civic Theatre Season 2015 will take place when the 360 ALLSTARS make you dizzy with excitement on Wednesday night.

Tickets are still available for this contemporary interpretation of the traditional circus and it’s the perfect time to purchase a subscription and take advantage of everything the theatre has to offer this year.

There are twelve shows this subscription season, including Bell Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the Rat Pack inspired The Tap Pack and community musical Legally Blonde.

Theatre Manager

Carissa Campbell has programmed a season that has classics with a twist.

“I always look for shows that surprise me, shows that question the nature of theatre and I love shows that are huge and dazzling,” she said.

“In 2015 we have, in many ways, a classic season – the symphony, the circus, Shakespeare, musicals, dance, theatre – but all with a twist.’

The benefits to subscribing include cheaper tickets, complimentary post show suppers, a pay-as-you-go option, reminder emails and special subscriber offers.

Regionally controlled weedWHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?Prairie ground cherry is an erect, deep rooted perennial growing to 50cm high. Stems are branched, spreading and covered with short hairs. Leaves are light green, oval shaped with toothed margins. The plant has trumpeted shaped, pale yellow

flowers that develop into orange berries encased in a papery bladder-like covering.WHERE IS IT FOUND? In grazing plots and on disturbed roadsides.HOW IS IT SPREAD? Mater Dei Catholic College student Thomas Whiting is one “appy” chap after winning the My AppVenture icon design competition.

Thomas’s handiwork will help set the tone and overall look of the world-first visitation app.

The app is a joint project between Wagga Wagga City Council, Coolamon Shire Council and Junee Shire Council in conjunction with Wagga business 365cups, who donated the $500 prize.

The development of My AppVenture is now at the stage where it is available to industry to view and experience for themselves.

With the project on track for launch at the end of May, Coolamon, Junee and Wagga tourism operators are invited to book a consultation where they will have the opportunity to view the app and find out more about available packages.

Under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act it is illegal to pollute, or cause or permit the pollution of waters.

Under the Act, ‘water pollution’ includes introducing litter, wash water, soil, debris, detergent, paint, cement slurry, building materials etc into waters or placing such material where it is likely to be washed or blown into waters, or the stormwater system or percolate into groundwater.

It is the builders’ and developers’ responsibility to keep building sites clean and stop erosion and building materials from entering stormwater drains.

Heavy fines, from $4000, may be imposed – to avoid them, follow these steps: • Have one stable entry and exit point

for vehicles

• Minimise the amount of land disturbed during construction

• Locate stockpiles away from road, paths, drainage lines, watercourses

• Remove spills on the road or gutter

• Don’t wash excess materials and water from cleaning tools and equipment down stormwater drains

• Minimise on-site vehicle activity during wet weather or when the site is muddy

• Ensure sediment fencing is installed around the site

You can adopt Patch from the

Meet Patch

Wagga Wagga City Council has welcomed this week’s NBN Co announcement, saying it will be a boon for businesses and residents alike.

NBN Co issued its quarterly update on the national rollout plan today with 158,000 homes and businesses across 40 cities, suburbs and towns – including Wagga – added to the list.

“The NBN will be a huge boost for our community – residents will be able to work from home, and have better access to online education and vital health resources,” Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Rod Kendall said. “In terms of local industry, Wagga businesses will have more opportunity to access other markets and to improve efficiencies.”
