REMEMBERANCES OF FATHER SAM PROFETA

May 11, 1921 - January 23, 2014

Brother Al Paglia wrote "Rememberances of Father Sam" and submitted it for our edification. The Town Crier, Wellington's Newspaper, incorporated most of his writing in their Obituary for Father Sam. The obituary is reproduced with the picture of Father Sam that they used. The color photo of Father Sam with Pope John was submitted by Brother Mike Sullivan.

Throughout the year there are many opportunities for us to serve God, our Country & our Faith. We can volunteer to participate or offer to lead the effort. We can, of course, sit back & do nothing or simply let others do the work. The choice is ours to make. There are obstacles, such as illness, injury and unforeseen accidents. But even these events can trigger volunteerism and create situations for us to participate. Lack of time, choosing between chores, shopping, visits with friends & family can actually be the obstacle that holds us back & takes away from the overall purpose of our membership. For along time, I allowed my health issues prevent me from participation as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Through prayer, and another Knight I found that I could perform a service. Now, I know the feeling of contributing to our mission. I still cannot offer a physical presence in all of our events but I can try to attend. Because of my experience, I am able to write the Newsletter and serve a purpose. Thank you for the opportunity.

The last two pages, Valentine Dinner Dances & a picnic scheduled for next August, are examples of the efforts being made to bring us together and include others, so that they too, can enjoy the fellowship we share while serving our Faith & Community. It is important to note that many of us make the time to participate and to serve despite the obstacles that routinely popup in our lives. Through these events, we can reach out to each other and others that need to feel that they belong and have purpose. It is important to make these events successful. Reach out. Embrace our mission. It has helped me and I believe there are others staying at home and wondering what they can do. All it takes is a call or a knock on the door and invite them to come join us. Vivat Jesus! Ed Lobdell
