Could you give me your understanding about Robotic

In my opinion, Robot is a combination of mechanical structures, electronics

modules and programming. Robot can interact actively with its surrounding or it

could be controlled by human.

Talking about Robot, we always make a clear distinction between Industrial

Robots and Service Robots.

Industrial Robots work for manufacture purposes such as ABB robots, its working

is always repeated, but it can be reprogrammable in order to deal with another

tasks. Because of industrial purposes, stable working feature is the most

important to Industrial Robots.

In recent years, we are paying more attention to Service Robots who serve

human life. !or e"ample, ABB is the most famous industrial robot company, but

they #ust introduce $umi which can work as a Service Robot. Regarding to ServiceRobots, they also can be distinguished between %ersonal Service Robots which

can work as our assistances at home. Those robots can work with various tasks

which related to human entertainment and human housework &Aibo' a robot of

Sony is the best e"ample, he can walk around your home, interact to human(s

behavior) and %rofessional %urpose Robots who work for a speci*c task which

related to hardworking or dangerous tasks &To deal with !ukushima nuclear

disaster, robots were sent into nuclear reactor to get information). Instead of

paying attention to stable working feature as well as Industrial Robot, %ersonal

Service Robots are always produced with simple mechanical structures. To deal

with various tasks at our home, it must be an intelligent robot which can interactactively with it surrounding. +oreover, it must be humanfriendly robots which

are easy to control and absolutely safe for user.

Would you give me your understanding about an entertainment

quadruped robot.

Regarding Service Robots, it could be mobile or legged robots. In legged robot

*eld, it is also included biped robots &sually we always concern in humanoid

robot such as ASI+-' a product of onda, Toyota umanoid Robot. Sometimes, It

could be / legged animal robot such as 0angaroo robot' a product of !esto)

1uadruped robots such as Aibo' a product of Sony company, Big2og robot ' aproduct of Boston 2ynamics and multi legged robot.

There are several kinds of %ersonal Service Robots such as housework robots,

security robots and entertainment robots. In my opinion, Service Robots will play

essential role in human life in the near future.

In my recent pro#ects, I pay attention to entertainment 3uadruped robot which

was considered as a pet robot for entertainment purpose at home such as

walking and dancing, interacting to human behaviors. The advantaged of legged

robot that is it can walk on di4erent terrains instead of only walking in 5at

ground as mobile robots. 1uadruped robots create more stable triangle on its

walking, it can walking more stable than. +oreover, humanfriendly feature plays

essential role in Service Robot. 6ntertainment 3uadruped robot which imitates

gait and behavior of dog pet is the suitable choice for further researches.

Why do you choose JAIST for studying aster course

+y ma#or is +echatronics, so I have more opportunity to research on Robotics. I

deeply respect 7apan for what they have done in this *led. 6specially, my *nal

pro#ect was inspired by Aibo robot' an outstanding product from this country. I

know clearly that 7apan is really famous for robotics, so I strongly believe this

would be the best destination for my education pathway.

7AIST is the famous research institute in 7apan which concentrates on graduate

and post graduate programs with the large number of laboratories. 7AIST

encourages for further researches and publications based on the variety of

research foundations and scholarships. aving said that, Bachelor degree and

the ne"t / years for this +aster degree is #ust the *rst steps on my education

path. I am still ambitious in e"ploring higher education about Robotics. I tend to

think that 7AIST not only my choice for +aster course but also for further

degrees. The high percentage of international %rofessors and students at 7AIST

also impact on my choice. 8ith the +aster course at 7AIST, I will have more

opportunity to study with outstanding %rofessors and students on around the

world.
