The Objective

• COTEVOS aims to develop capacities to test the conformance, interoperability and performance of the EV Smart Charging Infrastructure

• based on:– The partners’ contrasted experience– The cooperation with research and on-going standardization

development like M/453, M/468 and M/490– Aligned with, cooperating and contributing to M/490 WGI

• Due to Smart Charging, interaction between grid infrastructure and EVs is explicitly in scope !– Special attention and focus on smart charging use/test cases

The Objective

• COTEVOS’ objective is NOT to create new standards– It is to use the already defined standards, use cases, etc.

• But in order to perform interoperability tests some gaps need to be closed– It can be done by assumptions or better definitions/agreements– They need to be well documented and fed back into relevant

standardisation bodies

Spread network of external contacts

• Several approaches for involving external laboratories and players– Massive personalized e-mailing campaign– Categorized involvement according to their preferences and

capabilities– First workshop in Roskilde, Denmark, 2nd October

• eLaad (Arjan Wargers) was there among the selected speakers

Mutual interest for different players

6

• COTEVOS has stablished different kinds and levels of collaborations with Stakeholders in the field of Interoperability

• Benefits of cooperating with COTEVOS– Participation in the decision of Test Cases to be performed

and, eventually, in their execution– Participation in the elaboration of testing procedures– Free-of-charge test results of advanced interoperability

testing

• Guarantee of confidentially of the tests, as needed

Page 7: COTEVOS Collaboration around INTEROPERABILITY Eduardo Zabala TECNALIA OCA’s First Open Charge Congress November 18-20, 2014 Amersfoort, The Netherlands

• Industry summit– After having the first project results, it will be organized in

connection with a relevant European scientific conference– The event is meant to gather industrial experts on EV charging

infrastructure and services, electricity System Operators, ICTs and OEMs, in order to:

• Get feedback on the results and foreseen activities• Contribute to the general dissemination of the project findings• Foster collaboration opportunities and information exchange

• Workshops – Other two workshops will be organized in order to facilitate the

exchange of information between COTEVOS and the relevant stakeholders

Alignment with standards: Objectives

• Analysis and alignment of new tests and conformance test procedures/methods with existing standards, regulations, standardization activities and standardization needs at European level, concerning the interaction between EVs and grid infrastructure

10

SGAM (Smart Grid Architecture Model, M/490)

• Definition of priorities for new tests and conformance testing methods with broad consensus at European level (both inside and outside COTEVOS) and comparison with the international standardization scenario

Page 11: COTEVOS Collaboration around INTEROPERABILITY Eduardo Zabala TECNALIA OCA’s First Open Charge Congress November 18-20, 2014 Amersfoort, The Netherlands

11

Standards vs. Interoperability

• Standards are required for interoperability, But Interoperability is much more than a set of standards

• IEEE 610: Interoperability is the ability of two or more networks, systems, applications, components, or devices from the same vendor, or different vendors, to exchange and subsequently use that information in order to perform required functions

• Standards contain options, these often reduce interoperability

• M/490 Basic Application Profile (BAPs) reduce these options– Interoperability = set of standards + BAPs + ???

Page 12: COTEVOS Collaboration around INTEROPERABILITY Eduardo Zabala TECNALIA OCA’s First Open Charge Congress November 18-20, 2014 Amersfoort, The Netherlands

• M/468 eMobility Co-ordination Group• E-Mobility WG Smart Charging• M/490 Smart Grid Coordination Group

– M/490 - Consistent set of standards– M/490 - New applications and Methodology– M/490 – Interoperability– M/490 - Information Security

• IEC TC 69• IEC 61851• ISO-IEC 15118• OCA: Open Charge Alliance• eMI3: eMobility ICT Interoperability Innovation Group• Other organisations: JRC, ETSI CTI, …• Other projects: STARGRID, Green eMotion, PowerUp…

Standards for testing interoperability

Page 13: COTEVOS Collaboration around INTEROPERABILITY Eduardo Zabala TECNALIA OCA’s First Open Charge Congress November 18-20, 2014 Amersfoort, The Netherlands

Standards for testing interoperability

• What are the key standards for testing interoperability– IEC 61851– ISO-IEC 15118– IEC 62196 (plug is also needed for interoperability)– ??

• What are the key (interoperability) standards missing– Identification/Authentication?– EVSE to EVSE-backend interface?– Smart Grid interaction?– EVSP or Energy Market interaction?– ?

14

COTEVOS Reference architecture

• Interface reference architecture

– E-mobility interoperability Use Cases (UC) will involve the interaction between different actors in many occasions

– The reference architecture will describe the interfaces between specific components (like EV, EVSE, …)

– The COTEVOS reference architecture is shown in the next slides through a couple of mapping examples

• Laboratory reference architecture– The different COTEVOS lab architectures are almost ready– A common reference architecture able to fit them all is about to be

agreed

• Responding to the interfaces in the DoW• Coherent with the requirements of the standardization

activities• In agreement with the external contacts of COTEVOS

network• Round robin tests will be used for inter-laboratory

comparison: first basic tests have been already performed

22

From Use Cases to Test Cases

• Define test suites (like the WGI BAIOP) that cover a use case

• The test suite will consist of different test cases (steps) that need to conform to a specific standard e.g.

– EV requests a charging schedule to EVSE (e.g. conform IEC15118)

– EVSE operator sends the proposed charge profile to EVSE (e.g. conform IEC15118)

Page 23: COTEVOS Collaboration around INTEROPERABILITY Eduardo Zabala TECNALIA OCA’s First Open Charge Congress November 18-20, 2014 Amersfoort, The Netherlands

28 test cases have been identified and they have been sorted into 6 groups

What is coming next

25

• Participants will improve their lab capacities according to their current strategies– Not only COTEVOS’ Partners, but also external ones

• Test cases will be defined and assigned, and the corresponding testing procedures will be drafted accordingly

• Round robin test will be carried out– Cooperation agreement already signed by NTUA and University of

Strathclyde, and in process with INESC

• Agreement with eMI3 and PlanGridEV: also on-going– Cooperation and involvement of manufacturers (at the required level)

and other players would be desired (EVSE backend,…)

• The harmonization process based on a common approach, architecture, use and test cases, round robin tests, etc. will end up in the achievement of a unified laboratory infrastructure

We are interested in your opinion

26

• What would you expect from COTEVOS?• Which would be the best way for collaboration between COTEVOS

and OCA?• Do you have additional reference/special test cases for us?• Do you have equipment you like us to test (physically or remote)

and get test results?• Do you have SW (stubs) that you would like to propose to be used

in our tests?• How can we share test results with you and others?
