with their personality.

SamSam

Hoodie represents that Sam is quite laidback as it shows he

doesn’t make an effort.

The colour of the hoodie will be relatively bright as it connotes that he is happy and it appears as if he hasn’t got any problems. Also, the colour will play an important role in showing his emotions. This will

greatly juxtapose with how he ends up feeling later on in the

narrative. Therefore, the colour can show that he really isn’t that content as we thought he was.

Finally, a hoodie can suggest that Sam doesn’t try to dress up

and possibly shows that he takes a laidback approach to

life. Also, it can suggest that it makes little effort because he

doesn’t really like his life.

Sam will be wearing basic jeans which suggests that he is not a completed person as he likes to

wear jeans which are quite common. In addition, it shows that he is possibly informal because he

dresses casually.

The colour of the jeans will be dark which connotes that he

may have a secret he is hiding and it can add to the mystery. This therefore juxtaposes with the bright hoodie as it shows

that he is trying to be happy but the secret will always loom over

him and cause distress.

The trainers suggest that once again, Sam is quite casual. Also, the dark colour of the trainers

highlights the fact that Sam has a secret he is keeping and can add to

the mystery of the secrecy. Therefore, the colour shows that

even though he may appear quite out-going, there is still a secrecy

about him.

The plain t-shirt emphasises the casual personality of Sam but also, since it is plain, this connotes that his life isn’t too complicated and it

almost appears as if he has no problems, like a clear slate. The

colour of the t-shirt doesn’t have a direct link to Sam but the white

can connote that he has some sort of innocence about him and it can

divert the idea that he has any problems.

JasonJason

The jumper connotes that he is more formal than Sam because he looks more put together. Also, the colour of the jumper is dark which

connotes that there is a sense of mystery and it emphasises the fact

that he is keeping a secret.

In addition, wearing a jumper suggests that Jason makes an

effort with his appearance which can link with his studies because he seems to make quite a lot of effort with that. Therefore, this shows that he likes to look neat and tends to be conscious of his

appearance.

Like Sam, jeans can show that Jason is casual and he could be

laidback as well. This goes against the jumper because it shows that

even though he appears to be formal and makes an effort, the

jeans show a different side to him which is that he is on the same

level as Sam.

The colour of the jeans will be dark as well which suggests that there is a sense of secrecy about him. Also, he wears mostly dark colours which can emphasise his

sad feelings and can therefore suggest that he may be quite a sad and possibly depressed person.

Trainers once again shows that Jason is laidback. Also, it can

suggest that he is practical because he wears shoes which appear to be

comfortable which therefore shows that he puts practicality before appearance of the shoes.

The trainers aren’t of a particular brand like Nike which suggests

that he doesn’t bother with brands and it doesn’t effect his shoe choices. Therefore, this can

suggest that Jason put much care into how people perceive his appearance and likes to dress

according to how comfortable he is.

RebeccaRebecca

The flowy top connotes that Rebecca is girly because the flow suggests that she is delicate and

graceful which adds to the femininity of Rebecca.

Also, the colour of the top is grey which suggests that there is a mystery about and possibly it

shows that she has deeper emotions which are negative

because the colour grey does have connotations of being negative

and dull.

The colour can go against her girly side because it does the complete opposite and shows that she isn’t

girly and goes against the conventional girly stereotypes.

The loose fitted jeans can suggest that Rebecca may be all over the

place because if it was fitted then it could suggest that she is organised

and has a plan for what she’s doing. Also, the looseness shows that she may not have a grasp of her secret and it may be taking over the life.

The colour of the jeans are dark as well because it shows that once

again, the secret may be causing her to have sad emotions and also, the

dark colour goes against the her girly personality which can make us question whether or not she really is

girly or if it’s a façade.

LucyLucy

Lucy isn’t a fashionable person so she doesn’t take care in what she wears however, the jumper can suggest that she doesn’t want to make an effort or doesn’t care

enough to make an effort because she put on whatever she liked.

The colour of the jumper will be dark which suggests that she isn’t as bright and cheerful as Rebecca. But also it can highlight the fact that she

is keeping a secret and may not want to be noticed by others with the bright colours. Therefore, it is

her way of keeping in the shadows.

Once again, Lucy will be wearing jeans which suggests that she likes to wear casual clothing. Also, since she is seen as a ‘nerd’ the jeans can be a contradiction of this stereotype and it could suggest that she isn’t your

average nerd.

Moreover, the jeans are dark which goes along the lines of the jumper as she doesn’t want to be noticed. Also,

the dark jeans could highlight the fact that she has a secret and there is

a sense of mystery about her.

The dolly shoes can go with the fact that Lucy is a nerd because there is a stereotype linked to them that they dress proper and formal, therefore,

the dolly connote this.

This can be a contradiction to the jeans as it shows that even though

she may be an unconventional nerd, she still likes to dress proper and the dolly shoes could connote that she is

sensible.

The colour of the shoes can tie in with the fact that she has a secret

and is trying to fade to the background because Rebecca wears colourful clothes which shows she’s

outgoing but Lucy’s dark clothes shows that she is more of an

introvert.
