About Candover

Owned and operated by the Trust, Candover Clinic is an investment that provides

additional funding to support NHS services within Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Candover Clinic provides superior private healthcare with its facilities purpose built on

the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital campus.

The Candover team continually strive to ensure Candover is successful in generating

income for the NHS and maximising the benefits to our mutual patients in the Hampshire

area.

Designed entirely for patient safety and comfort, Candover Clinic is a stand-alone unit

located on the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital campus.

Our facilities include a stand-alone private out-patient clinic and comprehensive

diagnostic centre. Inpatients are treated in our hotel style, all en-suite private ward and

ultramodern private theatre facilities.

The Cosmetic Pathway

Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery can repair, restore or change the appearance

or function of a feature of your body. It may be an imperfection that affects your

confidence or self-esteem. You may already know exactly what it is that you are not

happy with and how you would like it to change, or you may be still exploring what

treatment is available.

Your first step is a no-obligation consultation with one of our expert surgeons. You can

read through their details in this brochure and make an informed decision based on

their speciality and experience. You may see more than one consultant for advice or a

particular consultant more than once, but there will normally be a fee for each

appointment. It is important that you are satisfied with the information you are given

and fully understand the treatment and expected outcome.

Once you have decided on your treatment, we can give you a guide price or a fixed

price quotation. Our cosmetic surgery is offered as a self-pay service and you will be

expected to pay in advance or arrange finance. We offer 0% finance, subject to status

and approval, so you can spread your cost over 6, 10 or 12 months.

If you are having a general anaesthetic you will be required to come into our private

outpatient clinic for a pre-operative assessment for some basic health screening to

ensure proceeding with your operation is appropriate and safe. Our nurse will discuss the

procedure with you and answer any questions you may have.

Our professional medical photographer will take a set of “before” pictures for your

clinical records. You can also ask for a copy to keep and the photographer is independent

from our consultants.

You will receive a booking letter and information pack asking you to come in to the

Candover Suite, our private all en-suite inpatient ward, on the day of your surgery. Your

consultant and anaesthetist will visit you in your room to answer any questions. You will

be prepared for surgery by our highly trained, exceptionally caring nurses and taken to

the operating theatre.

Once you have recovered from any anaesthetic your surgeon will visit you in your room

again to let you know about your surgery and again answer any questions. When you are

fully recovered, either as a day case or as an overnight stay, you will be discharged.

Over the next few days you may be asked to attend our outpatient clinic to check or

remove any stitches. You will have further outpatient appointments arranged at this time

to ensure you are healing well.

After a few weeks you will have a follow-up appointment with your consultant to look at

your progress and discuss the outcome of your surgery. You will also have post-surgery

photographs taken by the medical photographer for your clinical records.

The Candover Clinic is a purpose built, private patient’s unit offering state-of-the-art healthcare with exceptionally high

levels of safety

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)The abdominoplasty procedure, also

known as a ‘tummy tuck’ or abdominal

reduction is used to alter the shape of the

abdomen. It involves removing excess skin

and fat to achieve a flat tummy.

After pregnancy or weight gain, women

often feel that the loose skin or bulging

tummy negatively effects their confidence.

A flatter stomach can be achieved by

repairing tummy muscles and removing

excess “flabby” skin.

Men and women who were previously

obese and have worked hard to lose the

weight may still have excess fat deposits

and loose skin. A tummy tuck will often

help boost confidence by removing

unwanted scars or stretch marks and

tighten stomach muscles.

Eyelid & Eye Bag Lifts (Blepharoplasty)Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is the

removal of excess skin, muscle and fat

around the upper or lower eyelids to

improve appearance. This procedure is a

solution to remove or reduce eye bags and

tighten up the skin around the eyes.

There are two types of eyelid surgery:

upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid

surgery. The upper eyelid surgery involves

an incision along the eyelid crease, the scar

will be hidden in the natural fold of the

eyelid. The lower eyelid surgery involves

an incision immediately below the lower

lashes or on the inside of the eyelid.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)Brachioplasty also known as an arm

reduction or arm lift is a form of body

contouring used to reduce “bat” or “bingo

wings” on the arm. This is the area of

sagging skin on the underside of the upper

arm to the elbow.

The procedure involves an incision

between the armpit and the elbow. Fat and

excess skin is removed and the remaining

tissue is lifted. This will result in a tighter,

smoother, appearance under the arm.

Surgical Treatment Surgical Treatment

Male Breast Reduction(Gynaecomastia) Men can have breast reduction surgery if

they have enlarged breasts, a condition

known as gynaecomastia. Breast reduction

surgery can be carried out to flatten the

breast area of men who feel self-conscious

about their appearance. The procedure

involves an incision around the nipple and

liposuction to remove the excess fat. The

benefits of surgery can lead to increased

self-confidence and self-esteem with the

choice to wear a wider selection of clothes.

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)Facelift, also known as rhytidectomy,

removes heavy, tired features by

smoothing the skin and reducing lines and

wrinkles. A facelift involves removing skin

that has lost its elasticity most commonly

around the eyes, mouth and jaw. This can

make the face look rejuvenated and gives a

more youthful appearance.

A facelift can reduce wrinkles, tighten

loose skin and remove brown spots. There

are three types of face lift; full facelift,

mid-facelift and mini facelift.

A full facelift involves a long incision along

the hairline; the skin is then lifted and

tightened as required. A mid facelift is

used for upper facelifts and brow lifts, the

benefits of this type of facelift is there is

less scarring and shorter recovery time.

This is because a mid-facelift is performed

endoscopically, the surgeon makes smaller

incisions and the surgery is performed as

‘keyhole’ surgery. A mini facelift is used

to remove and tighten excess loose and

sagging skin in the neck, chin, lower cheeks

and jaw line. This involves an incision on

both sides of the face, excess tissue is

removed and the remaining skin is lifted

and tightened.

Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty)Breast augmentation or breast

enlargement, involves using breast

implants to increase the size and improve

the shape of the breasts. Breast implants

can be used for asymmetry, to improve

sagging after weight loss of pregnancy and

to improve self-confidence. It is the most

common type of cosmetic surgery.

Breast augmentation surgery involves

inserting in one of two types of implants;

silicone gel implants or saline implants.

The surgery takes approximately 60-90

minutes. An incision is made and the

implant is positioned between the breast

tissue and chest muscle or behind the

chest muscle.

Breast Reduction(Reduction Mammoplasty)Breast reduction, also known as

mammoplasty is commonly undertaken

to improve body proportion, when the

breasts are out of proportion to the rest

of the body. If the breasts are too large

women can experience severe backache,

difficulties participating in certain

sports as well as low self-esteem. Breast

reduction surgery involves reducing the

weight and volume of breasts. An incision

is made and excess skin and tissue is

removed.

Breast Lift (Mastropexy)A breast uplift reshapes breasts and

modifies the appearance of breasts that

have changed over time. The skin loses

elasticity through age, weight fluctuations,

following pregnancy and breast feeding.

A breast uplift improves firmness and

provides a more youthful shape and fuller

breast. Breast uplift surgery involves

lifting and changing the shape of the

breasts. The surgery takes approximately

2-3 hours and as with breast reduction

surgery, excess tissue and skin are

removed. More commonly a breast uplift is

performed alongside breast augmentation

surgery.

Breast ReconstructionBreast reconstruction is a procedure

to reconstruct a breast to match the

remaining natural breast. This procedure

can be carried out at the same time as a

mastectomy (immediate reconstruction),

but this isn’t always possible. If carried out

at the same time, the recovery period will

be longer. If the reconstruction surgery

is carried out at a later date, this is called

a delayed reconstruction. There are

two types of reconstruction: prosthetic

reconstruction where an implant is used

or autogenous reconstruction, where

tissue is used from elsewhere in the

woman’s body. This tissue can be taken

from the back, buttocks, thighs or

abdomen, creating a natural feel and

shape to the reconstructed breast.

Surgical Treatment

Prominent Ear Correction(Pinnaplasty / Otoplasty)Pinnaplasty, also known as otoplasty, is

the treatment or correction of prominent

ears due to their size or shape. Ears that

stick out can be uncomfortable and cause

embarrassment. Having the ears resized

or repositioned / pinned back can boost

self-esteem in both children and adults.

Pinnaplasty surgery takes approximately 1

hour. An incision is made at the back of the

ear and the cartilage will be reshaped or

remodelled into a less protruding shape.

The procedure can be performed under

either general or local anaesthetic.

Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as

a ‘nose job’, is a procedure performed

for reshaping the nose. As the nose is

the central feature of the face, if you

are unhappy with the size or shape of it,

having surgery to alter this can have a

significant impact on your self-confidence.

Surgery can also be carried out to resolve

nasal trauma or breathing difficulties by

reconstructing the nose.

There are two main techniques for

performing rhinoplasty surgery; open and

closed. An open rhinoplasty procedure

involves making incisions from the

outside of the nose. A closed rhinoplasty

procedure is where all incisions are made

from the inside of the nose. Rhinoplasty

procedures can take up to 2 hours, it

involves separating the soft tissue on

the top of the nose from the bone and

cartilage underneath. The tip of the nose

and the bridge can be reshaped, in order

to reposition the nose it may be necessary

to break the nose bone and reposition it.

Surgical Treatment

Thigh LiftA thigh lift is a procedure to remove excess

skin and fat after weight loss, pregnancy

or natural ageing. The procedure involves

an incision in the inner thigh crease to

tighten the skin. The incision can extend

around the upper thigh and in the groin

creases. Removal of the excess skin and fat

can improve self-esteem and confidence.

Buttock LiftA buttock lift is a procedure to reshape

and lift the buttock. As the body ages, the

buttock loses fat, which results in a flatter,

saggy appearance. A buttock lift can be

carried out by transferring your body fat

from another area of the body, into the

buttock. This is beneficial as it is removing

fat from other areas of the body where it

is unwanted. The fat can be removed from

the stomach, hips or thighs via liposuction.

LiposuctionLiposuction is a procedure used to remove

areas of fat. The fat is removed via a

small cannula that is inserted beneath the

skin, and is attached to a vacuum. There

is a limit to how much fat can be safely

removed during a liposuction operation.

Popular areas for liposuction are stomach,

thighs, buttocks and chin.

Non-Surgical Treatment

Botox and Fillers

BotoxBotulinum toxin injections are used to

temporarily relax muscles of the face to

reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and

frown lines.

Botox is a non-surgical treatment that can

help reverse the appearance of the natural

ageing process and fade the appearance

of sun damage to the skin, giving a more

youthful look. It can help temporarily

reduce forehead creases and thick bands

in the neck.

Botox should only be given by an

appropriately trained doctor in a clinical

environment as it is a prescription only

medicine.

Dermal Fillers Fillers are injections that are used to fill

out wrinkles and lines in the skin. Fillers

are also used for increasing the volume

and definition of the lips.

The treatment involves filler being injected

into the required area in small injections,

this can take between 30 minutes to 1

hour.

Dermal fillers are not legally required to

be administered by a medical professional

but for the safest course of treatment, it

is recommended the treatment is carried

out by a medical professional in a clinical

environment.

Mole and Skin Tag Removal Performed under local anaesthetic the

mole or tag can be removed in several

ways dependent on the size and location

of it.

Vaginal RejuvenationUsing new pulsed light technology to treat

and rejuvenate vaginal tissue, including

tightening of the vaginal wall following

child-birth. Clinical results prove this

treatment is effective with no undesired

side effects. 95% of women report

improvement in vaginal tightness with

17% reporting shrinkage.

For menopause symptoms, laser treatment

promotes new blood vessel formation in

the vaginal tissues to improve symptoms

of vaginal dryness, itching, irritation and

pain / discomfort during intercourse. Also

there is no need for long-term oestrogen

treatment.

Fotona Laser TreatmentLaser skin rejuvenation using a Fotona laser is a new way of reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. The laser stimulates new collagen growth and tightens the skin giving a youthful appearance with one of the most advanced lasers on the market.

This application is non-ablative and does not cause skin damage as some lasers do, so there is very little to no signs of treatment apart from the benefits of the increased collagen production, these will take about 4 weeks to appear due to the time taken for collagen production.

Optimum benefits can be achieved with 2-3 treatments, but will already be visible with 1 treatment. There are several treatments and applications from facial to abdominal to vaginal treatments, including:

• 3D Laser Skin Rejuvenation• 3D Laser Smooth Eye• 4D Laser Face Lift• Body Laser Skin Tightening (knees,

'bingo wings', chest, stomach)

Skin Treatments Cosmetic skin treatments are a non-surgical option for those who want to achieve younger looking, clear skin without having to undergo surgery.

Non-surgical cosmetic skin treatments can help to reduce wrinkles, remove blemishes, moles, skin tags or birthmarks, and smooth the skin.

Non-Surgical Treatment

More information at www.candoverclinic.com/cosmetics

1514

Non-Surgical Treatment

Laser Treatment Used to reduce the appearance of lines

and wrinkles on the face. The top layer

of skin is removed using a hand-held

laser which stimulates the growth of

new skin. This will in turn leave the new

skin feeling smoother. The effect is not

permanent so a course of treatments may

be recommended.

Chemical Peels Can help reduce the signs of ageing and

leave you with fresher, smoother looking

skin. This is achieved by removing a layer

of damaged skin, revealing a healthier

layer beneath. There are different types

of chemical peels available dependent

on your skin type and what you want to

achieve as a result.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy Used to reduce the appearance of sun

damage, age spots, rosacea and acne

scars. The treatment takes approximately

20 minutes and involves pulses of light

targeting specific areas of the skin.
