President's Report Dear Members, Corvette Nationals 2019, Queensland A few Members have just returned from the 31st Corvette Nationals held at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast. We all had a good time catching up with members of Corvette Clubs from all around Australia. The Corvettes of Canberra members returned with a number of trophies. Congratulations to those members. See the article later in this newsletter. Corvette Nationals 2021, Canberra, and Sponsorship The Corvette Nationals are held every year at Easter time in different States of Australia. Canberra’s turns is coming up in 2021. Preparation is already underway for this event. The motel is organised and we are looking into other events. When we get closer to the event we will be calling on members for their assistance. One thing that is important is sponsorship. If any member can offer or knows of anyone/company that would be willing to contribute to the Nationals, the Canberra Club would like to hear from you about this. It can be in the form of products or money. Please give Peter Bond a ring re any form of sponsorship. Come to the next Club Dinner and Run The club would like to see a few more people to our dinners and runs. The last run to the coast was enjoyable. GM Adding 400 Jobs to Meet Demand for the 2020 Mid-Engined C8 Corvette

Ahead of the July 18, 2019 reveal of the brand new mid-engined C8 Corvette, General Motors CEO Mary Barra visited the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to announce that a second shift and more than 400 hourly jobs would be added to help build the sports cars. That’ll increase the plant’s workforce to more than 1,300 people. The C8 Mid-Engine Corvette Made A Drive-By Appearance at the National Corvette Museum on 27 April 2019. The GM CEO announced that the mid-engine C8 would be released later in 2019 as a 2020 model.

CLUB VETTES ON SHOW AT CANBERRA CAVALRY BASEBALL, 6 January 2018

Thanks to Sonia for organising a great event for the start of the year! We had an impressive show of ten Club Corvettes to open the baseball game with a cruise around the track, followed by a display which attracted a lot of attention.

MEMBER’S 1974 STING RAY RESTORATION Spud bought his ’74 Canberra Vette about seven years ago knowing that it would need a bit of work. That started a few years later……

Spud did all the work himself except for the final paint. He dismantled the Vette to find lots of hidden damage which required work over four years. Just polishing the wheels took evenings over several weeks - with several beers!

CRUISING THE COAST CORVETTE NATIONALS QUEENSLAND 2019, Sanctuary Cove, 19-21 APRIL 2019

A good team of eight members attended the Nationals this year and were rewarded with a great collection of awards. The first group left in perfect weather from Canberra to overnight at Coffs Harbour for the first evening of relaxation with a number of members who arrived earlier from the NSW Corvette Club. The weather then deteriorated for a stormy drive to the Gold Coast!

The Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove Resort was a welcome sight!

SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL EVENT – OUTBACK SPECTACULAR

This was a surprising and impressive spectacle which we enjoyed while having a wine and steak dinner. The vast indoor arena setting was an outback cattle farm with outstanding video scenes recreating outback scenes and flowing rivers on the ground – and an actual helicopter!

EASTER SUNDAY WAS THE TRACK DAY OR WINERY CRUISE DAY The track was a large go-kart track with a couple short straights, a hairpin and lots of tight corners to test your Vette in first and second gear – and have some fun!
