FLUTED DESIGNS FOR A STRONG AND LIGHTWEIGHT SOLUTION

Packaging not only makes the product easy to identify on the shelf, it uses design and colour to reinforce the brand identity.

James Cropper’s high quality corrugating materials enhance the image of some of the world’s leading premium branded products. Fluted designs are both lightweight and have inherent physical strength to offer extra protection to the product.

Our corrugating papers are supplied to the packaging industry for conversion into corrugated board.

A standard sheet of corrugated board is made from 3 components of an outer liner paper and an inner liner paper, with a fluting paper in the middle.

All of our products are made from sustainable fibres and 100% recyclable.

Every corrugating paper we make is engineered to withstand the rigours and tight constraints on the corrugating machine and in the final box.

This basic diagram shows the profile of a corrugated board with fluting and liners.

Do we have to buy a different grade for liners and flutes?

Many fresh fibre corrugated grades are strong enough to cope with the rigour of both the liner and the fluting part of the corrugating process. In the case of fresh fibre grades one quality will do both jobs.

100% recycled grades are a little different – while strong enough for the liner application, a special treatment is required for the flute application. The special treatment has a tendency to cause streaking on the surface of the paper. Such streaking is not visible on the fluted application, but would be on the liner application. It is for this reason that James Cropper recommends different liner and flute grades for recycled corrugating qualities.

Can I use corrugated grades for food contact applications?

James Cropper offers one deep black corrugating grade with Food Contact Certification. It is possible to develop other colours for such food contact applications.

Such new product developments require an agreed investment and a timescale of c. 4 months.

Are corrugated grades suitable for archival applications?

Yes, James Cropper does indeed manufacture corrugating liners which conform to ISO9706 permanence requirements. Further information is available on demand.

Can CupCyclingTM fibres be used in corrugating grades?

Yes, it is possible to incorporate 20% CupCyclingTM fibres into corrugating grades in agreement with customers on the qualities in question.
