2017 was the third year of our Corporate Social Responsibility Program and the launch of our volunteer program, Manos Oriental. Our initiatives are based on promoting Education, Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. The goal is to bring our innovative culture to the communities we serve. We also want to encourage employees to challenge the status quo, promote change, and contribute to the economic and social development of Puerto Rico. As you’ll see, many of our activities this year focused on helping communities recover from Hurricane María.

E D U C A T I O NWe focused on three initiatives contributing to the development and education of children and young people. In partnership with Enactus, an organization of university students, we prepared more than 400 Boxes of Hope filled with school supplies and delivered to children in time for the new school year. Our second initiative was a scholarship program for employees’ children interested in science, technology, engineering and math. Our third, Oriental te Orienta (Oriental Guides You), helped university students learn leadership skills and prepare them for entering the labor market. We visited three campuses and impacted about 300 students.

S O C I A LI N N O VA T I O NWorking with Enactus, we also supported 34 projects to help communities become sustainable and achieve growth. This involved 15 teams, 423 students, and more than 86,000 total volunteer hours. It resulted in the development of approximately 100 new businesses and 380 jobs for the benefit of 25,000 people living in different communities.

ENTREPRENEURSHIPWe sponsored three programs promoting projects to help foster Puerto Rico’s economic revival. We joined Access Latina and Grupo Guayacán to support their business entrepreneur competitions. We also continued to develop our own Atrévete (Challenge Yourself), aimed at encouraging interest in banking and finance among entrepreneurial women.
