British Columbia. He spent most of his childhood in Victoria B.C.

• His first book Colin’s Fantastic Video Adventure, was published when he was seventeen in 1984.

the plOt• The plot of the book Skybreaker is that

Matt Cruse sees a ship, named the Hyperion, that was rumored to be lost 40 years ago, and him and two of his other friends set out to find the ship and get the gold that was rumored to be on the ship. They risk theirs and other peoples life seeking what they want the most.

Main CharaCterS• Matt Cruse is the main character. He is a determined

teenage boy that will do anything to get what he wants in life.

• Kate deVries is Matt’s best friend. She is a fine young lady that wants to reach the Hyperion and get what she wants off of it. (Which is the taxidermy).

• Nadira is a gypsy girl, Matt meets her while running from pirates, they become friends. She will do anything to prove she is not what people thinks she is.

• Hal Slater is the captain of the ship, named the Sagarmatha, they use to get to the Hyperion. Hal Lies about everything just to impress the young lady’s.

pOV• The story is told in first person point of

view.

• Being told in first person influences the work, because you are hearing a first account of the story. Not a story made up at some parts, or people guessing what happens, but a first account.

theMe StateMent• Everyone has a hard to reach goal in their

life, but always remember that goal can be reached.

MajOr COnfliCtS• Internal- Matt Cruse has an internal

conflict, when he has to decide who to take the trip to the Hyperion with: Kate or Nadira. He ends up going with both of them.

• External- Weather is bad outside the ship. They cannot haul in the Hyperion, they have to go in and bring back what they want.

quOte• Matt Cruse- You are not truly a man if you

must lie to a woman to impress them.

• Kate deVries- You always need to try new things and widen your horizon.
