KEY RISKSSUPPLY CHAINSupply chains are increasingly complex and global, and disruptions can have a huge impact on profit, brand and reputation. According to the Business Continuity Institute’s (BCI) fifth annual Supply Chain Resilience Survey, 76% of organisations reported significant disruptions to their supply chain last year, citing IT glitches, adverse weather, outsourcer failures, product quality and transport disruption. 44% of these disruptions are actually caused by a suppliers’ supplier. EEF, the Manufacturers’ Organisation, warned its members that security of supply is a “threat to growth.”
BUSINESS INTERRUPTION / UNDERINSURANCESome customers are significantly underinsured leaving them at risk of a shortfall in claims payments. If a business has significantly under-declared the amount of insurance it needs, then the insurer may not pay out on the claim because the business has not disclosed the true level of its risk exposure to the insurer (which can invalidate the insurance contract). Alternatively, the insurer may make a proportionate reduction: for example, if the gross profit figure supplied to the insurer is only 50% of the actual gross profit, then only 50% of the loss will be covered.
HEALTH AND SAFETYIn today’s increasingly litigious society, the vast number of personal injury scenarios slip, trips and falls, manual handling; workplace transport; being struck or injured by objects, tools or equipment can lead to claims. Managing a claim can cause significant disruption to a business. Risk management minimises danger to the public and employees, wherever possible, before an accident occurs. Claims defensibility ensures the right evidence exists and insurance provides finance should the worst happen.
MORE INFORMATIONMORE INFORMATIONMORE INFORMATION
ENVIRONMENTALEnvironmental legislation has mandated that companies clean up, reduce carbon, control pollution and become more energy efficient. Environmental risk improvement may also be driven by cost pressures, customer expectations and a company’s own approach to Corporate Social Responsibility.
GLOBAL SOLUTIONSIn a world of globalisation, UK-domiciled companies are increasingly expanding their presence into overseas territories as they seek growth through new revenue streams and operational efficiencies. Expansion brings increased requirements to an insurance program to ensure both adequate protection of property and people, and compliance with local legal licensing and insurer foreign premium tax (FPT).

PRODUCT SAFETY & RECALL INSURANCE
PRODUCT RECALL CLAIMS EXAMPLES:
Heightened consumer awareness is driving an increase in the number of product recalls and their financial impact. Tightened legislation and better enforcement is driving increased scrutiny of product safety by enforcement authorities with authorities now empowered to levy fines and enforce a product recall. The maximum penalty for directors in the UK is imprisonment.
