College Information Nights: As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to remind you that TUHSD still has a few great College Information events taking place for different grade levels. Thursday, April 18: MCC Senior Preview Day Field Trip. Monday, April 29: Marcos hosts "The College Application Process: A Behind-the-Scenes Tour" for sophomores and juniors. This event will allow students and parents to act as an Admissions Officer and decide whether or not to admit a student to their college while gaining insight on how different colleges use transcripts, test scores, student essays and both teacher and counselor recommendations in the admissions process. The information and insights from the six out-of-state presenters will help students planning to apply to any four-year college, not just those presenting. Please see attached flyers below. ACTIVITIES/CLUBS/CLASSES: Key Club: Last weekend, 13 Key Club officers and members attended the annual district convention in Albuquerque, NM and received several awards. As a group, our club took 2nd Place in Overall Achievement; 1st Place for Single Service for our work with the Arizona foster care system and 2nd Place for Major Emphasis for our work with the Sunset Library and STEAM. And while the club is a team effort, I would like to give several students special recognition: 2nd Place for Poster - designed and hand painted by Hayden Eastwood; 2nd Place for Talent - CJ Shin performed an amazing piece on the piano and received a standing ovation; 2nd Place for Scrapbook - designed and created by Claire Fu; Outstanding Key Club Member - Claire Fu. Five of our officers are seniors, have given so much of their time to this club and will be missed: Zhaobo Zhang, Kellie Kim, Adeline Gan, Claire Fu and Zain Sidhwa. Congrats to our Key Club! Plays: TheatreWorks Presents "Steel Magnolias" today and Saturday, April 5 and 6, and "A Few Good Men" on Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13 at 7pm in the Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. 19-20 Pom: Pom is gearing up for a new season with tryouts just around the corner. The Pom Tryouts and Workshop are the week of Monday, April 8 - Thursday, April 11 from 3-5:30 pm in the dance room. Please pick up the information packet in the front office from Mary Baker at the Activities desk. It is going to be a great season so make sure you get your paperwork complete and come show us your dance moves! Prom: Prom is on Saturday, May 4 at The Venue in Scottsdale. PARENT COMMUNICATIONS: Attendance Auto-Call: If you receive an automatic call stating your student missed first hour and you know you have already called to excuse your student, please disregard the auto-call. There is no need to call us again. Due to the high volume of attendance calls, it may take us a couple of hours to listen to your message/excuse your student. Attendance Line: When your student is absent, please remember to call the Attendance office within 48 hours of the absence. Always include your student’s ID number. AcLab: Students should sign up for an AcLab starting Friday after 2:15 pm until Tuesday before 3 pm. Students should receive an email at their CDS school email address confirming their AcLab choice for Wednesday. Calculators: The CDS Math department recommends purchasing a Texas Instruments 84 TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator. If you have questions, please email Don Guess at [email protected] or speak with your student’s math teacher. No Holds: The Corona del Sol front office does not hold items for students to pick up, including lunch. The exception is your student’s ID. Please arrange to meet your student between classes to give other items during passing periods. We will not call students out of class to pick up items. Please call us at 480.752.8888 to find out the correct passing times. Off-campus pass: For your student to receive an off-campus pass, a parent/guardian must call the attendance office on the day of the pass, at least one hour prior to the time of the pass. Students must have their CDS ID to leave. The attendance office will not give off-campus passes during lunch hours (10:15 am – 12:15 am). A parent/guardian must come in and sign the student out. Students feeling ill should report to the nurse. The nurse will contact the parent/guardian to release your student. ParentVUE: We offer parents an easy way to stay informed about their student’s progress at school. ParentVUE provides secure access to your student’s schedule and classroom information, attendance, grades, progress reports, transcripts, discipline and many other items. Registration is simple. Visit www.tempeunion.org/parentvue to sign up for this tool. There is even a mobile app so you can access your student’s information from your smartphone any time, day or night. If you need an access key or your account is disabled, please leave a message on our CDS ParentVUE hotline at (480)752-8775 and we will respond to you via email. Skateboards: Please remember, no riding on skateboards on campus. Have your students bring locks and lock them up before entering campus. We do not hold them in the front office or the classrooms. Stay in the loop: Be sure to stay up-to-date with all that is going on at Corona del Sol. You can find a wealth of information on our website at http://www.tempeunion.org/coronadelsol. Scroll down to see links to all the important information. Join our official Facebook page (search for Corona del Sol Official Facebook Page) and follow us on Twitter at @cdsaztecs. Seniors, follow CDS CLASS OF 2019 @2019_cds for things senior-related. Student drop off/pickup: Parents, please remind your students to use the crosswalks at all times when crossing any street. This is for their safety and the safety of others. Please obey all the traffic signs around campus and remember there is no drop off or pickup on Knox Road in the West direction and No Parking on the north side of the street. The area is clearly marked No Parking. In addition, please, no U-turns on Knox Road – this is very dangerous. We greatly appreciate your help as we try to keep everyone safe. Drop off/pick up of students is allowed in the Rural Lot and on the South curb of Knox Rd. Drop off in the LDS church lot is not allowed. Student IDs: All students are required to wear their IDs and they must be worn and visible at all times during the school day. Please help us keep our campus secure and remind your students to wear IDs.

What is the Aztec Incentive Reward Program? Six years ago, Corona del Sol High School implemented a reward program to incentivize student test performance; the Aztec Incentive Reward Program is a program that rewards Corona del Sol students for their performance on various high stakes tests (like the PSAT, AzMERIT or AIMS Science). Because our students’ scores on these high-stakes test are usedby the Arizona Department of Education to determine Corona del Sol’s letter grade, one of Corona’s continuing challenges in maintaining the Arizona Department of Education School Report Card grade of an “A” has been to increase the performance level among our students in the both the general education classes and in our special education program.

Disclaimer Please note that the Aztec Incentive Reward Program is intended ONLY for students enrolled at Corona del Sol who are taking their high stakes tests on the dates below. This incentive reward is valid for the school year following qualifying. Also note: Each year the qualifying criteria for the Aztec Incentive Reward Program may change. This year, the program has been modified to include the following high stakes tests:

How do Corona students qualify for a reward?

● Students who are in regular, honors, or AP classes must have TWO separate qualifiers; one of which must be from Group A.

● Students who currently receive special education services (i.e. students who have an IEP) must have TWO separate qualifiers (any combination of Group A and/or Group B).

When will students know if they qualify?Individual scores are usually distributed directly to the student, but AzMERIT andAIMS test scores can be accessed through SchoolCity (which can be found in the student portal on the website; students use the same username and password as they do to log onto the computers at school). Students will have to use their SchoolCity account to verify their growth on AzMERIT from 2018→. 2019. CTE scores are emailed toboth students taking the test and their instructors. PSAT scores were distributed to students in late 2018 via email, but students can also retrieve their scores at College Board under “Student Score Reports” if they have created a College Board account.

When and where do students redeem their rewards?   Depending on when AzMERIT scores are distributed to Corona students, the  Aztec Incentive Reward redemption could begin as early as August 12, 2019; students need to listen for announcements and parents need to check the Parent Newsletterfor the exact date. Students will be able to redeem their Aztec Incentive Reward at the following times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30-3:15pm; on Wednesdays (or any early release day) from 1:30-2:15pm. The Aztec Incentive Reward redemption will take place in the Lobby Lab adjacent to the Library.

How do students redeem their reward?

It is incumbent upon the students who qualify to redeem their reward by submitting the Corona del Sol Aztec Incentive Reward Program Signature Agreement form, a copy of their qualifying results, and any other required paperwork (i.e. for the class of 2021, Off-campus authorization form if selecting the off-campus ID). Please note thatboth Corona del Sol Aztec Incentive Reward recipients and their parents/guardians must sign the form.

The Aztec Incentive Reward Program Signature Agreement forms will not be availableuntil the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

Is there a deadline to redeem the reward?Students can redeem their reward during the first quarter of the 2019-2020 schoolyear; the last day to redeem is October 4, 2019. Students must redeem in person and only at the times designated during Corona’s operating hours. For more information, contact Mrs. Justine Centanni at [email protected].
