The final Course Rep meeting will
take place next Tuesday 12th May at
1pm in the Atlantic Centre.
Can all Course Reps from each group try and
attend or let Abi Stokes know if there is a reason
that you can’t.
It is really important to feedback any issues or ideas from your
groups so that we can make sure your voice is heard.
Lunch vouchers will be provided for all that attend.
COURSE REP MEETING NEXT TUESDAY 12TH MAY
Dear Students
If you are not already aware, the June Exam Week Timetables
have now been published on your course notice boards for
perusal. They should also appear soon on your course Moodle
page.
If you are scheduled to have an exam but you are not listed on
the college notice board, you should have received a
personalised timetable via email.
The exams are scheduled to take place between Thursday 28th
and Friday 29th May; Monday 1st to Thursday 4th June; Monday 8th
to Thursday 11th June. All exams taking place will be in
classrooms at Newquay or the Atlantic Centre in Wildflower Lane
(car access through the over flow car park).
It is a necessity in sitting HE exams that you have your UoP
number. This number can be found on your UoP card, or on
the college notice board exam timetable schedule.
Please note that you will also need to bring along
photographic ID to your exam, as your identity will be
checked by the Invigilator (even if the Invigilator is a
member of staff who knows you) as this is an exam
regulation.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the exam.
It would be advisable to bring a pen and pencil and
calculator (if needed) with you to the exam. Only see-
through pencil cases are allowed on the exam desk.
Please remember to turn your mobile phone off and hand
into the invigilator or store away in your bag at the other side
of the exam room. It is a serious exam offence to use any
electronic device, bar a calculator in an exam.
HE EXAMS
Please also be aware that you will not be allowed to go to
the toilet unaccompanied, if you do need to go you will have
to wait until the break invigilator comes to relieve the
invigilator and then they will accompany you.
If you have any problems with your exam timetable please do not
hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to help.
The best of luck with your exams!
Regards

CONCLUDING REMARKS
SKI TRIP – OPEN TO STUDENTS AND STAFF
Ideas are already being submitted for this year’s competition,
offering further education, higher education (FE and HE) and work
based learning students the chance to create solutions that could
change the education landscape forever.
Now in its third year, the Summer of Student Innovation is a
Jisc co-design competition to enable students to realise their big
ideas for using technology to improve education, research and
student life for themselves and for their fellow students. This year’s
competition is open to students in higher and further education
and those in work-based learning.
Successful entrants will be announced in June and receive a grant
from Jisc. The funding will help students develop their ideas into
apps and tools, support successful products to be piloted by
universities, colleges and learning providers, and promote all
ideas to other interested parties through sustainable routes.
To take part students are asked to submit a short video pitch on
the Jisc Elevator website, alongside a short summary and a 300-
500 word description of their idea detailing the benefits and how it
will impact upon research and education. The four categories this
year are:
· The student ideas competition
Exploring ideas looking into how technology can improve the
student experience in further or higher education. The final five
projects will receive £2,000 funding from Jisc and those taken
forward to the product development phase will then receive an
additional £3,000.
· Supporting technology start-up projects
Start-up grants to assist existing teams to promote and pilot their
products with universities, colleges or learning providers. Open to
any team with an eligible sponsor in education. The five projects
selected will all receive funding of £20,000.
· The learner ideas in FE competition
Learner led ideas for using technology that could improve
learning experience in FE and skills. Funding of £5,000 per project
SUMMER OF STUDENT INNOVATION 2015
five teams selected and an additional £5,000 for ideas selected by
Jisc to develop into a product.
· The apprentice-led ideas challenge
Ideas to improve learning from apprentices and trainees. You will
work with your provider, Jisc and the Association of Employment
and Learning Providers (AELP) to explore and develop your idea
and make it a reality. The five projects selected will all receive
funding of £20,000.
Those entering the competition must submit their applications
by Monday 18 May 2015.

The Centre for Environmental Data and Recording (CEDaR) is
asking for people to report when they see or hear a Cuckoo using
the newly launched online recording facility.
The Cuckoo is a rapidly declining species Red Listed as a bird of
conservation concern in the UK. They arrive from Africa in April
and May and sing throughout the Spring. They are much more
likely to heard than seen. Their calls are distinctive but can be
mistaken for Collared Dove and Woodpigeon.
More information on the Cuckoo can be found on the Priority
Species of Northern Ireland website.
