Understanding how it works is the first step to learn how to do it properly. Of course people have proven that they could gain some of their inner power solely based on experimentation and introspection, so I would never say reading this is indispensable for your spiritual advancement but it would help anyone who feels stuck or wants to begin the spiritual journey. Emptiness You may have heard of trance, a half-conscious state where youre able to access your subconscious mind (spirit) easier. But how does it work exactly? In todays world, most people tend to constantly use their prefrontal cortex for decision-making, problem-solving, socialising, planning, etc. when awake. People rarely get a chance to feel their inner selves. The first and foremost key to becoming closer to your spirit is to completely silence your prefrontal cortex, to empty your mind of all analytical thoughts. When this is done, thoughts of past events may naturally emerge as your consciousness moves to the limbic system. You can feel your memories but do not analyse them. Remain emotionally rich. Try to feel your spirit. Slide of 2 9Core Essence of Meditation published on 2015-08-11 / 4713-06-27 by R94A212. Stillness To bring your consciousness closer to your spirit, your motion must be minimised. Stillnessallows the motor and sensory cortices to rest.Once youre still and focusing on your posture, your consciousness moves to the brain stemwhich is crucial for the most fundamental bodyfunctions such as sleep/wake (generating dreams, sleep paralysis), breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, fine motor control. Notably, the pineal gland (the third eye) sits right above thebrain stem. With your consciousness at the brain stem, you mayhave a full control over your alertness, breathing, heart rate, temperature (e.g. Wim Hof). At the pinnacle of stillness, you can completely stop breathing and heartbeat, i.e. being one with your spirit. Slide of 3 9Core Essence of Meditation published on 2015-08-11 / 4713-06-27 by R94A213. Darkness We close our eyes in meditation. In the absence of light, the visual cortex becomes idle andavailable for the input from the pineal gland.Pinealocytes have a strong resemblance to thephotoreceptor cells of the eye. Receiving signals from the third eye is possible if your conscious- ness is present at the brain stem (via Stillness) and enough spiritual energy is delivered to the pineal gland (via Feeling, Breathing and Focusing). This is what people call opening the third eye, seeing auras, spirits. Pitch-darkness would allow access to abundant Yin energy whilst the presence of natural light (sun, candle) would also nourish Yang energy. Yin is receptive spiritual energy and Yang is the spiritual energy that is readily convertible into physical energy, especially in the form of heat. Feeling One has to be able feel the energy which flowsin and out of the body through chakras (portals)and circulates the peripheral body parts naturally or as directed. To do that, the sensory cortexwhich is idle and unoccupied (via Stillness) shouldbe used to sense the body functions of the brain stem. The brain stem modulates breathing and the cardiovascular system. In Eastern philosophy, the spiritual energy/life force (Prana, Chi) is thought to enter the body through the breath and is sent to every cell through the circulatory system which acts as energy channels (Nadi). So it is important to try to feel your breath, heartbeat, and even body temperature which is a good indicator of blood flow. Feel your energy, feel your spirit. Physically, you canchange the heart rate, blood pressure, bodytemperature etc., by changing the respiratoryrate. Your breath is the source of your energy, feel its flow in and out, and into your circulatorysystem; you may be able to control your entire body beyond itsphysical limits. I recommend a gentler version of root lock andabdominal lock to further enhance breathing-energy circulation. Relax all muscles to inhale. Gently and slowly contract the pelvic muscles, then abdominal muscles to exhale. This also connects the motor cortex to the brain stem. Dont think about how to breath or force contraction. Let it be your natural way to breath, maintaining stillness. Slide of 6 9Core Essence of Meditation published on 2015-08-11 / 4713-06-27 by R94A216. Focusing Once you are in a state where you can maintainbalanced breathing-energy circulation, you maygently direct your consciousness to your thought. One effective way to do it is through self- hypnosis where you slowly and quietly talk to your spirit to fulfill the idea you strongly desire. Its important to keep it as one simple idea (e.g. spoon-bending, precognition) in the beginning because you dont want to start thinking analytically and be detached from your spirit. Always remain emotionally rich. Keep feeling your breath and heart. Balance between your feeling and thought is the key. Perhaps, it is this balance that allows one to combine Yin and Yang energies, the key to advancing ones spiritual power. Effortlessness Of course you cant think about all these things I discussed when you meditate because that would be analytical. So the idea is that once you understand how it works, you may subconsciously use that knowledge for meditation. Its like learning how to ride a bike or drive a car. You first learn how different parts of the vehicle work but when you actually run the vehicle, you dont read an instruction manual, you trust your newly gained knowledge and focus on action only. Practice is the only way to become effortless (Wu wei, ). In summary, (1) sit upright still, eyes closed (2)stop thinking, start feeling (3) breathe slowly usingappropriate muscles (4) feel your breath, heart andassociated energies (5) gently focus on one idea (6) repeat 1-5 until you are effortless.
