When you think of the word “core,” what comes to mind?

Maybe you think of an apple. While most enjoy everything outside of the core, this mid-section is undeniably vital for storing the seeds that help the fruit grow and mature.

Perhaps for some of our fitness-forward members, it conjures up thoughts of abdominal muscles and a system that promotes a strong body.

Whatever attribution the word conjures in your mind, I think we can all agree that a core is critical to any system – whether it be the body, fruit or a business.

At Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union, we consider our “core” to be our technological structure. It’s the way we are best able to serve our members and their growing and diverse needs – from offering the latest advances in mobile application technology to the way our staff maintain and work to improve our members’ financial well being on a daily basis. We continually strive to maximize our internal operations to, in turn, give you the best options on a variety of platforms.

In April 2011, MMFCU began exploring options of how to improve our behind-the-scenes structure. Realizing this was a critical step in addressing the future on a long-term basis, MMFCU hired a third-party vendor to assist us in interviewing and assessing various companies that specialize in core enhancements. In October 2013, a company was chosen; and, in March 2014, the process commenced.

After nearly four years, I am excited to share that this core conversion process is nearly complete and we will begin to roll out a vastly improved system by late Summer 2015.

This upgrade, or system enhancement, is an important technological advancement for our credit union.

What does this mean for our membership? Without a doubt, your credit union is dedicated to making this improvement as seamless as possible for each and every member. This enhancement is just one step we are taking to improve the capabilities of serving our diverse membership, as well as ensuring we are well-equipped to provide you with what you need, when you need it in this fast-paced world.

As we begin the journey to the conversion process, bumps in the road may occur. However, our staff will do everything possible to make this as seamless and convenient as possible. With the transition, there will also be changes to some of our processes and procedures. Rest assured, we will communicate with you each step of the way so you will remain well informed.

Our staff has also established a Core Enhancement Q&A page on our website. Here, you will find additional information regarding this process. You can find this information at www.mmfcu.org/eservices/core-enhancement.

Know that we are fully committed to this process and believe that it will greatly benefit each of our members in the long run. We hold ourselves to a high standard and want to be equipped to deliver and meet your needs now and into the future. Thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

A dream within your reach

Building and owning a home has long been the American dream. Now, more than ever this dream is within reach and Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union has the tools to make this dream your reality.

Thinking about building a home? Start with a good foundation! Mid-Minnesota can help with land and construction loans to fit your project. Now is a great time to build the home you’ve always wanted. Couple that with our great rates and you’ve got yourself the foundation for making your dream a reality.

Remodel or renovate with a Home Equity Loan. MMFCU has a variety of options to choose from, including our Traditional Home Equity loan. This classic home equity loan allows you to lock into a fixed rate. Borrow against the equity in your home for any reason – not just home improvements - and enjoy tax-deductible interest!

Perhaps our Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) is a better fit. Just like a traditional home equity loan in many respects, the HELOC gives you more flexibility in your borrowing. Access what you need when you need it, and only pay monthly payments based on your balance after advances. Our HELOC is a variable rate program.

MMFCU also offers an interest-only HELOC. It offers the same great features as our Traditional HELOC, but with much smaller monthly payments because borrowers are only required to pay the monthly interest due based on balance.

Maybe you’re looking to increase the equity in your home. Consider taking advantage of our Property Improvement Loan option. Build a shed, construct a deck, remodel the kitchen, tar the driveway, add a new roof. The choice is yours and the time is right! Applying is easy and can be done online, in person or by phone.

To learn more about everything from home loan basics and current rates to purchasing a new home or refinancing your current home, visit our online Home Center at www.mmfcu.org. We’ve taken lots of great information and condensed it into one, centralized location to provide you the best resources to make your dreams come true.

Regardless of where you’re at in your financial journey, lean on us to help build the best scenario for your future. Your dreams are within reach!

Transform, transition, or treat yourself to something new or improved.

The Nuts and Bolts of Home ConstructionJoin us at 5:30 pm Thursday, April 16th, as our MMFCU Home Loan team walks you through the construction loan process from start to finish. We’ll take you from concept to completion and every nut, nail, screw and bolt in-between.

REVERSE MORTGAGES

Thursday, April 30, 5:30 - 7:00p.m. Brainerd MMFCU office

Reverse mortgages are growing in popularity and, unfortunately, can be confusing. Reverse mortgages are a special type of home loan that lets homeowners convert the equity in his/her home into cash. Homeowners need to know whether it will meet their financial goals and to be aware of scams and fraud. Mid-Minnesota is proud to partner with LSS Financial Counseling to provide important and impartial information to help you understand your options so you can make the decision that is right for you. Join Jill Carlson, Director of Training & Community Relations and Sandy Kleist, LSS Financial Counselor, for this workshop.

Welcome to the Mid-Minnesota Education Network! Part of our credit union mission is to provide resources to help improve your financial well-being. Offering information, seminars and other educational and networking opportunities is another way we are partnering with the community to help you get the most out of your credit union membership. Take a look at some of our upcoming opportunities.
