• Cordoba is a city of Andalucia, it is placed in the valley of Guadalquivir by the site of Sierra Morena. It is a city of maderate size which was capital of province during the Roman and Moslem Empire. Its old quarter was declared patrimony of the humanity and is the candidate to be city of culture in 2016.

THE CATHEDRAL – MOSQUE.

• It is considered the most important monument of Cordoba, it was built on the old basilica of San Vicente. The acces to the mosque through the pardon’s door, of mudejar style.

• First, we will find the Oranges tree’s courtyard.

• In the building we are going to find 830 columns. Since his visigode origins the mosque has had a lot of transformations .

• The horseshoe’s arch is the most important art representation in this building.

• Construction steps:• Abd Ar-Rahaman I. He built the main structure of

the mosque.• Abd Ar-Rahaman II. He built the first ampliation to

the river Guadalquivir, and this generated a demographic increase.

• Abd Ar-Rahaman III. He built the new alminar and made a ampliation of the courtyard.

• Al – Hakan II. He made a more luxurious extension.• Almanzor. He carried out the biggest extension.• Christian conquest. The mosque turned into a

cathedral.

• It was built by Abd Ar-Raman III to her wife. It’s a palace-city, placed by the side of Sierra Morena. It has three areas:

• Upper terrace.• Middle terrace. (Garden and leisures.)• Down terrace.
