and on the Atlantic Ocean. It is the 2nd largest city in the USA by area, and 11th largest by population. The St. John's River runs through Jacksonville, and it is one of the 2 rivers in the world that flow South to North!

THEME CISV International’s peace education provides participants with ways

to look at a wide range of local and global issues in order to understand peace from four different educational content areas: diversity, human rights, sustainable development, and conflict and resolution.

Each year, CISV International chooses one of the four educational content areas as the main focus for the year, and encourages programs across the world to emphasize this content area in their camps. The theme for 2015-2016 is Conflict and Resolution! In learning about conflict and resolution, we hope to understand how conflicts can arise, deliberately or otherwise, and what can be done to help bring a

peaceful resolution. Our staff chose the theme “Coral Reef” for our Village

because a coral reef is made up of many different species of fish, plants, and organisms, and is incredibly diverse. Despite the diversity of a coral reef, these starfish and eels and sharks and turtles all live together in one harmonious, beautiful environment! In a coral reef, there might be conflict among different species, but, at the end of the day, the different organisms coexist peacefully together in the interest of protecting their entire community.

MEET YOUR STAFf

Hi! My name is Caitlin Ramseyand I am from Orlando FL. I

currently attend the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and will earn my degree to be a teacher in

May! I teach middle school math and science. I have been a leader at a mosaic village in Jacksonville for two years and will be taking on the adventure of staff for the first time this summer! I'm super excited to get to know each of you and have a great time at Village! For fun, I really like swimming and going to the beach. My hobbies include

cooking, traveling, and hanging out with friends. Fun fact: I used to play water polo! I've included a picture of me and my

cat because I love him so much! Again, I'm so excited to get to know everyone and have an amazing village this summer.

Hello! My name is Dow Linnelland I am your

Camp Director! I am from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have been involved with CISV since I was 13 and our Village will be my 12th CISV International experience! I also work for CISV in various positions and roles, ask me about them! I am currently a business student studying Management, Marketing and Global Tourism and will be graduating 2 weeks before Village! In my “free” time I like to visit with friends, play with my awesome dog named Maggie and travel… a lot! Can’t wait to meet you all this summer and create new CISV memories together!

Jamar Torrence-Jacksonville USA

I have staffed two local villages before! I’m 23 year old/young and am an average sized person (I’m 6’4) … I am super excited about being a good host and being that international bridge for all of our fellow CISVers!

Hi, my name is Lizzie Utsetand I will be the Junior

Staff at the Coral Reef Village this summer! I am originally from Jacksonville, Florida and I currently am a second-year student at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. I LOVE CISV and I have been involved for about 7 years, at various different levels. I have participated in Interchange, in Village as a Junior Counselor, and in a Seminar Camp, along with spending many years active in the USA’s Junior Branch. The thing that I am most stoked about for village, besides meeting all of you, is the fact that our camp site is only a short walk away from one of Florida’s beautiful beaches! Other fun facts about me? I think llamas are the cutest animals in the world, and I promise that I can eat more french fries than you. I am also learning how to speak Chinese, and I am planning on spending my next school year studying abroad at a University in Shanghai, China. That’s about all for now! I can’t wait to meet you all!

Hello everyone, my name is Sebastián, but all of you can call

me Sebas and I’ll be one of your International Staffs! I

am 26 years old but my birthday is on April 25th so I will be 27 at Village. I was born in Bogotá,Colombia and I’m very proud of it! Colombia is such a spectacular place. I studied social communication and got my degree in 2012.I like all kinds of food, especially sushi and I am always in the mood to try

new things. I love water balloon games, playing in pools and sometimes walking in the rain. I’m a VERY

BIG FAN OF SOCCER and rarely miss watching a match. My 1st CISV experience was as a leader for an interchange

in Denmark and after it I’ve done just villages, this will be my 5th. I have been in CISV since 2008 and I hope to be involved for a very long time! I’m very excited about this Village and making lots of new friends. See you really soon!! Abrazos!

Communication One of the main goals of the CISV Village program is for

youth delegates to have an intercultural experience independent of their parents, which helps greatly in the development of their positive, independent decision-making skills and self-awareness. Delegates During the Village, youth delegates will be able to write letters home. Please remember that from most countries, it takes about 10-15 days for mail to arrive to/from the U.S.A. The leaders will be able to send and receive mail for their delegates. Telephone calls can only be made to and from the delegation leaders. Delegates will not be allowed to call home. Leaders Given the location of the campsite, Internet access may or may not be available during camp. If we manage to have Internet access, delegates will be able to receive a combined email from family and friends.

Airport of Arrival Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) Jacksonville – U.S.A

Arrival Date Friday June 26th, 2015 (Please make sure to arrive before 3:00 PM in the afternoon!)

Departure Date Thursday July 23rd, 2015 Camp ends at 12:00 PM on Thursday so please book accordingly! (Do not book flights which depart before 12:00 PM)

We will be picking you up and taking you back to the airport. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need a host family after the camp.

HomestaysDuring Village there will be 2 homestays; the weekend you arrive

(June 26-28) and the middle weekend (July 10-12). During these weekends the delegations will stay together or stay in same gender pairs. Please bring a small gift for each of your host families. This gift should NOT be anything expensive, but rather something special you would like to give as thanks for their hospitality and to remind them of you.

When you arrive in Jacksonville, members of the staff, chapter volunteers, and host families will meet you at the airport. Delegates will be taken directly from the airport by their host family. Because of this, we ask all delegates to pack a small, separate bag for your arrival homestay. This small bag should include clothes for 3 days, toiletries, any medications you might need, and a swimsuit. We will be taking all remaining luggage from the airport to the campsite.

Leaders will be taken to the Village site. Leaders should be prepared to hand off copies of their delegation’s Health Forms and Insurance/Legal Forms (YLIF) to the homestay family.

Rules The CISV International Policies & the United States National

Laws will apply to every participant

No discrimination.

No drugs. The use of narcotic and hallucinogenic drugs or chemicals IS NOT PERMITTED at any CISV program. It is illegal in United States to possess, consume or sell narcotics (drugs) for any purpose except if prescribed by a doctor, so if you are under treatment let us know, and bring what you need for your stay. Please do provide internationally accepted documents that you are legally carrying this medicine. Such documentation will be treated confidentially. Any participant found possessing or using narcotics will be sent home at his/her own expense.

No Alcohol. One must be 21 years of age to purchase or consume alcohol in the U.S.A. Consumption of alcohol at any time by youth delegates will not be permitted or tolerated. While this may seem harsh, these are the laws of U.S.A. The CISV Jacksonville Chapter and the staff are responsible for upholding these laws. No one can drink alcohol on school ground in the US, at the risk of us losing the ability to use the site.

No sexual intimacy or the appearance of such.

Smoking: You must be 18 years of age to legally purchase and/or use tobacco in any form. The use of tobacco products by adults (leaders and staff only) will only be permitted in designated outside areas. Please remember to be respectful of the site and those around you when smoking. Smoking is never to be done in front of youth delegates.

PLEASE SEE CISV INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTS R-7 & R-15

Page 16: Coral Reef Village Pre-Camp #2

Language The official language of the camp will be english. It is

important that all participants have a working knowledge of english so that we will be able to communicate with each other during planning and discussions. It is important for those of us who are more familiar with english to speak slowly and clearly so that everyone can understand. We also look forward to hearing different languages!!

Religious Services The Jacksonville area has citizens of

many different religions. Every attempt will be made to accommodate requests to attend religious services if needed. Please let the staff know ahead of time, so they can make these arrangements.

Page 17: Coral Reef Village Pre-Camp #2

National Night

Each delegation is in charge of preparing a national night.

A National Night is the time where you will have the chance to tell us a little something about why your country is so special (food, traditional dance, culture). We ask that you limit your National Night to one activity period (typically 1.5 - 2 hrs). We also recommend bringing a national costume as well (for National Night, Open Day and Camp Photo).

Each delegation and JC needs to bring a scrapbook or something to hand out at the Village. This could include but is not limited to:

- Information about your country

- Bios of the delegates and their leader

- A few words in your language and specific to your country

It’s tradition for delegations to bring a national food to share with the camp. Leaders will have limited access to the kitchen (delegates will NOT be allowed in the kitchen), so please keep in mind that if you bring food, a snack would be preferred, but if you plan to prepare a meal please let us know about this by no later than June 1st.

Please Note: ALL ADDITIONAL NATIONAL NIGHT COSTS WILL BE BILLED TO THE DELEGATION.

If you have any requests for your national night please contact the staff.
