Being able to drive anywhere is a step toward the path to a free future. Driving shouldn’t be an obligation, or something you have to deal with. It should be a pleasure because there are plenty of kids who wish they could just drive. For the students who don’t have cars, riding on the bus is the next best thing, which isn’t saying much. Taking the bus is no picnic. Having to deal with annoying freshmen and talkative upperclassmen can get tiring on the first week, and especially around this time of the year. By now, kids who can’t stand to take the bus anymore have probably found, or are desperately trying to find, a ride to school. As high school kids, we all know how expensive cars can be. Some students earned the money themselves; others get the car from their parents. Every now and then, a student shows up with a really nice car. “I once saw a Porsche there,” said Alex Hatem. As the year goes on, the more and more students get cars, the more the student parking lot population increases. “I hate parking in the student parking lot, it’s so crowded,” said Alex Hatem. There are many ways to get out of school. As soon as the bell rings and the school day end, it’s a race from there on. The doors open and the Barracuda’s are released. Whoever gets to their car first and is able to pull out of their spot the fastest, can get to the stoplight and escape onto 152nd street. There have been plenty of fender benders trying to get out as quick as possible. If you are planning to park in the student parking lot next year, then there are a few strategies and tips to remember. “After school, you should run, get into your car, pray to God that you don’t run into another car, and book it. I think it is just way too crowded. How do they expect four lanes of cars to get through one tiny space? It’s impossible,” said Shannon Muhammad. There are three main parking areas. Parking in the smaller parking lot, next to the art wing, is probably the best parking lot because it’s smaller, has two ways to get out, and is very close to the doors. If you’re planning to stay after school then don’t take up one of these spaces. The main parking lot is full of traffic and unfocused, impatient beginner drivers. It’s really just a big place to hang out with friends after school. If you get to school late or don’t really care where you park, then park in the field. “I think it needs to be regulated. There’s nobody maintaining these kids who don’t know how to drive. I think that there should be some sort of limit. Maybe seniors should only be allowed to use that parking lot, and have everyone else park in the field. I think the easiest and safest thing to do is to open up another exit out to the main road. Two exits out to 152nd or multiple exits out to the main road that gets you onto 152nd,” said Nick Sanabria “Honestly, the parking lot is great, besides the fact that it gets super crowded every Friday and on an early release day. It’s ridiculous,” said Maurico Romano. Even though the student parking lot isn’t perfect, the some students choose to deal with it by joking about it. “I think we should all drive boats. That would be pretty tight,” said Jake Pivnik. Goodbye Mrs. Leal; The Tank won’t be the same By: Carlos Talledo At Coral Reef, besides our wonderful academics, athletics and student life, we have a figurehead that stands unparalleled, not only in Miami Dade County, not only in the state of Florida, but in the nation as well. Her name is well known, feared, and loved. She has served the Reef for more than a decade and under her leadership we have become one of the greatest schools in the country, sending students to the most prestigious universities in the world. Her name is Ms. Adrianne Leal. On the exterior is a façade of grit and toughness, on the interior a heartwarming spirit dedicated to giving the world and more to the administrators, teachers, and students that she watches over. Our fearsome leader has created a culture at Coral Reef, a spirit, and a family that stands apart from the mediocre and average. Ms. Leal has extended opportunities to countless exemplary educators, which have in turn impacted the lives of every student in Cuda Nation. After conducting several interviews with some of the best teachers at The Reef, I now know how greatly Ms. Leal has touched the lives of those around her. My first interview was with none other than Ms. Marmol, one of the premier AP Language Arts and Composition teachers at our beloved school. I asked Ms. Marmol how has Ms. Leal impacted her career as a teacher, her answer came with a warm smile, “If it were not for her, I would not be a teacher at Coral Reef and I would possibly not be a teacher altogether. She saw something in me.” Ms. Marmol continued to say that Ms. Leal will leave a legacy that is “Hard to follow, She believes in the best or nothing. She has created a place where teachers and students are proud to come to school.” Besides merely the academics, she has been there personally for all the fish in the reef. I had the chance to sit down and talk with the exuberant Mrs. Wydler, Algebra two and IB Pre-Calculus teacher, who has been here just as long as Ms. Leal. Mrs. Wydler told me how just after being hired she was not able to pass the finger printing test due to damage to her fingers from cleaning her boards with windex and for three weeks after school had started, she was not able to come into work while the matter was sorted out, and for three weeks Ms. Leal kept her on because she believed in Mrs. Wydler’s ability as an astounding math teacher who has now served us for thirteen great years. Ms. Ferguson, the lively AP United States History teacher, commented on how when she injured her foot Ms. Leal was there for her and gave her sound advice which she has implemented in her life ever since. In the words of Ms. Marmol, “She’s tough, but she will always be there for you.” That is what leaves us this year, a tough cookie that has been there for all the fish at the reef, big or small. This year, we lose a maverick in her field, one who managed to get the President of The United States Barack Obama to stop for a visit, who presided over a school that has become one of the best in the country, an innovator that has created a family, a large school of barracudas willing and able to stand up and help each other. This year, we lose Ms. Leal. We wish Ms. Adrianne Leal the best in retirement, we extend our greatest thanks for all the work she has, for changing lives for the better, and we hope that life treats her as well as she has treated Coral Reef Senior High School, Home of the Barracudas. Mrs. Adrianne Leal speaks to the faculty during the opening of school breakfast.

Baitline strives to provide quality student-led publications to the student body providing the school community with an open forum of public expression. In the publications class, students will make all editorial decisions including, but not limited to: generating story ideas, writing copy, editing copy, laying out copy, taking photographs, and handling all aspects of running the business end of a school publication. Because of this, any comments or concerns should be addressed to the editorial staff. It should be understood that the newspaper is not a professional publication; therefore, students will make mistakes during the learning process. As a staff, we will make every effort to learn from these mistakes and continually improve the publication. While our primary goal is to inform and entertain the school community, we also strive to maintain high journalistic standards. All opinions expressed in the publications are the students’ or the individual sources, and not the staff’s as a whole, the advisor, or school officials. Letters to the editor are appreciated and can be delivered to room 305 or e-mailed to [email protected]. All letters submitted may be condensed or edited for grammar and spelling. Libelous material will not be printed. Information about submitting ads can be obtained by e-mailing [email protected]. Past issues can be viewed at http://crhs.dadeschools.net.

Coral Reef Sr. High School

By: Derek Rodriguez

That time of the year has come again where Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t win a particularly important award. This well-known award would be the Oscar, where only the best of the best actors are even nominated to achieve it. Held at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on February 22nd, the 87th Oscars had various movies from throughout the year, including Fox Catcher, The Theory of Everything, American Sniper, and The Grand Budapest Hotel. This year’s spectacular guest show host was Neil Patrick Harris, who opened with a 5-minute long comedic song featuring Anna Kendrick and Jack Black. In which, Anna Kendrick played Cinderella; and Jack Black who was basically the antagonist of the song and stated that “The only screens we will be watching, are screens in our jeans,” in a very rock star-like tone. As for the yearly tribute, Stefani Germanotta (otherwise known as Lady Gaga) sang The Sound of Music; which was originally performed by Julie Andrews. After the performance had come to an end, Julie Andrews went up onto the stage and said to the crowd “It really warmed my heart, it really did.” Some of the major actors and actresses

to win it in the year of 2015 are Julianne Moore (best actress), who played in Still Alice, and Eddie Redmayne (best actor), who starred in The

Theory of Everything. Big Hero 6 was chosen as the Best Animated Feature Film. In this animated film, there is an extraordinarily intelligent boy who helps to create a superhero by the name of Baymax, wherein they attempt to stop the villain Professor Robert Callaghan. As for Best Visual Effects, Interstellar was the best candidate. With it containing several phenomenal actors, such as Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, and Mackenzie Foy, one might agree that it is surprising that Interstellar didn’t win more Oscars than it did. In the end, an unexpected candidate, being Birdman, won the Best Motion Picture Award. It had a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes,

8.1 on IMDb, 5 out of 5 stars in Common Sense Media, and 88% on Metacritic. These are extraordinarily high rating in comparison to other

popular movies. This movie won multiple Oscars, not including Best Motion Picture. Although most people would say that the Oscars were amazing this year, others would have different opinions. L’amat Rosales, a sophomore attending CRSH, says “The voting at the Oscars is biased most of the time. There are awards that go to the

wrong person or movie due to the lack of people knowing who they are.” Despite the fact that this may be true, what’s done is done. Leonardo DiCaprio has yet to win an Oscar, and Birdman won Best Film. The 87th Oscars was a memorable one.

By: Brian Philips February ended with fights and arguments over a dress. No, this wasn’t a cat fight for a prom dress, or a “who wore it better?” argument. These disagreements were caused by the color of a dress. Rising from the depths of Google Image, Instagram, and Twitter was a picture of a dress that made everyone question if they were losing their minds. Some people say the striped dress was black and blue, others said it was white and gold. Just to add to the fire, a few special people, such as Bevil Conway, a neuroscientist who studies color and vision, at Wellesley College, saw blue and orange. Whether it is black and blue, white and gold, blue and orange, the colors of the rainbow, or even our own school colors teal and black: the color of this dress became an argument that quickly grew publicity. It was trending on Twitter, appearing on newscasts, and could possibly take over the headline of this BAITLINE newspaper. Just simply walking through the hallways of Coral Reef and eavesdropping on conversations, confirmed it was all anyone was talking about. There were many different rumors as to why people saw different colors.

Most were ridiculous rumors, for example, some students were accused of being color blind, others said the opposite color side was lying. There was a meme picture going around saying “What if I told you there was no dress.” Articles online were posted within the morning. Everyone seemed to have their own theories as to why this was happening Those who were desperate tried to solve the issue by using computer programs and apps such as Photoshop, to determine the color of the dress. They took each color segment, from top to bottom, and highlighted the color. As if it wasn’t confusing or frustrating enough most results came back as between light blue, a color that is a little bit white, and a little bit blue; or golden brown, a color that’s dark enough to be considered black, but also has enough color to be considered golden. By the end of day, after the countless fights were over, the endless arguments made, the overly expressed opinions were said; everyone just wanted to be done with the topic. It’s safe to say the students of Coral Reef didn’t want to see another dress… until Prom.

Do you see Blue and Black?

By: Derek RodriguezYear after year, there is a certain test that every single student must take as a vital part of their college experience, this test being known as the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). In this test, colleges look at a particular students score, and this is what makes a major difference on whether you will be accepted to the school or not. The minimum score that is possible is an 800 and the maximum score is a 2400. The average score is a 1500. The SAT includes three separate parts; these parts being critical reading, mathematics, and writing. Critical reading is basically sentence completion and reading comprehension. The questions in this part of the test can be a little tricky. In other words, it tells you several answers that are correct, but it wants you to find which is the MOST correct. The math is pretty self-explanatory, there will be problem solving multiple choice questions, and Student-produced response questions (Grid-in). The final part of the SAT, being the writing portion, which is probably the most intense part due to the fact that the student must write an essay in 25 minutes or less, as well as several grammar questions in under 25 minutes. Although it may seem like an extremely difficult test, due to the constant studying and

implementation of the SAT curriculum into the year, most students are prepared for what is to come. According to the majority of undergraduates, the SAT is fairly easy, especially after the curriculum that they take during the rest of the year. Ian Schlichting of the junior class

of Coral Reef Senior High School says this about the SAT, “Easier than any other IB test, it was just long and tiring. It’s like a mental marathon.” Almost anyone can agree with this statement. With the SAT being nearly four hours

on (Three hours and 45 minutes), it can tire anyone out mentally. What is common knowledge to some but unknown to others is that the student has the ability to take the test several times in order to try and increase their score. However, this is not a popular decision because after the third time taking the test, the score that they get

from that point on is averaged out from their previous SAT scores. As for what used to be common knowledge but is now considered to be incorrect is the tip that you should never bubble in an answer that you don’t know is correct. This is because recently, there has been a change in the way that the SAT’s scores are added up. The old case was that if you answered a question incorrectly, either a quarter of a point,

a third of a point, or a half of a point would be deducted from you depending on the difficulty of the question. This has now changed, where no points are taken away from wrong answers. Just remember to study hard and pay attention in class, at that point, you will be fine.

By: Analexis Sanchez The stress of finding a dress, trying to get tickets for family last minute, and emotion at an all time high, the anxious juniors have finally become upperclassman. The Class of 2016 joined together to walk down the red carpet towards the ring arch to collect their class rings. This day is where students play the roles of celebrities and parents played the role of photographers, snapping pictures of their “babies” walking across the arch. The Junior Ring Ceremony is one of the high school events that students have been waiting for since the first day of school. Ring Ceremony was held on March 5th, 2015 in the Coral Reef Gymnasium at 6: 30 p.m. As students grouped up with their friends they grew anxious and more eager to collecting their rings. Walking towards the gym from the cafeteria, parents grew excited to see their children walk in. As the ceremony took place, students listen to their class representatives talk about the history of the ring, how to wear the ring, and ring turning traditions. Later following an emotional video of pictures from freshman year to this year, many of the students thought that the video was a great idea. When asked what her favorite part of the ring ceremony was,

“ M y favorite part of the ceremony other than getting my ring, was watching the video that was made for us. I loved seeing pictures of my friends and other classmates in the presenta t ion ,” said Amanda Sanchez, junior in the medical academy. Then it was finally time for students to be called down. As they left row by row to receive their rings, they grew restless and just wanted to wear their ring. Parents, anxious to hear and see their child, while most students were nervous walking in front of all those people and not tripping. As the ceremony came to an end, two VPA juniors sang the Alma Mater in front of the whole Class of 2016 and family members. Confetti flew through the air as juniors placed their rings on their fingers and turned it for the first time. After waiting for 3 months for

their ring they finally can proudly say they are upperclassman. Now with the rings on their finger, juniors now come into realization that they are one step closer to finishing high school, starting college, and heading into the real world. As some students don’t understand the idea of Ring Ceremony; it was a special event for juniors, that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Students will reminisce on their rings and remember what a great time that they had through their high school days.

Beginning of the End

The Junior class celebrates their transition to Seniors at the ring ceremony.

The First Senior Event: Senior Breakfast

By: Carlos Talledo The final hurrah for graduating seniors, grad bash is up and coming. Seniors all around Coral Reef are more than excited for the upcoming event and are ready to share a magnificent final adventure together. The trip is also situated at a good time since they will be able to relax and get in the mindset for testing which a few weeks right after grad bash, on April seventeenth. The seniors will be going to Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, without a doubt they will be having a wonderful time in the parks which from personal experience, I can say is a spectacular experience. There is also a special caveat to grad bash; Trey Songz will be performing the night that the seniors will be there. Trey Songz is one of the most popular singers of our time and he will

provide the seniors with memories that they will never forget. In a recent interview, Kristen Colon and Britney Jean Louis, emphasized how excited hey

were about going to Orlando. For Kristen, the most special part of the trip will be being able to have a final trip with the classmates she has known for over four years. In

regards to the Trey Songz concert, Brittney Jean Louis is ecstatic about it and she is “Glad it’s not Pitbull.” For Kristen Colon the most exciting part of the Orlando trip will be seeing the brand new Harry Potter World which now includes the famous Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter series. The addition of this new wonderland has expanded the size of the park and has created a train for park hoppers to go from park to park, something that had not been done in Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure before. The most special part for Brittney Jean Louis will hopefully, be getting called on to the stage by Trey Songz, we’ll root for her. This final grad bash trip will be without a doubt a special event for the outgoing seniors, who will be able to forge some new memories and go into testing and college after with an uplifted spirit and morale. There are many wonderful seniors in this graduating class and we all hope the best for them on the trip and in the future as they go off to college.

Seniors Take on Gradbash

By: Jeselyn Labiste

The first exclusive senior event has finally arrived for the Class of 2015, Senior Breakfast! Tickets went on sale through the week of January 12th for $35. More than 500 tickets were sold that week (More than half of the entire graduating class of 2015). Medical Academy and Anatomy teacher, Laura Fink described the event as one of the best things a senior can attend this year. “It is one of the best senior events s senior can invest in, it truly is a bang for your buck”, expressed Mrs. Fink. On Tuesday, March 17, 2015 -St. Patrick’s Day-, Senior Breakfast was held at the extraordinary Rusty Pelican Restaurant in Key Biscayne from 8 in the morning till to in the afternoon. The scenery was incredible with the crisp waters of Biscayne Bay right outside the great glass windows. A delicious breakfast, entertainment with a DJ, dancing, the Senior Superlatives, the Senior Slideshow, and the mysterious hypnotist made the excursion that much more memorable. Business Senior, Danielle Steede loved the venue, food, and the “incredible hypnotist that mesmerized several of my fellow classmates.” This year’s menu included the classic breakfast foods such as eggs, sausage, orange juice, French toast, pancakes, and pastries. When the music blasted across the ballroom, many students jumped to their feet and began to dance. It was an extremely festive environment. Business Senior and Student

Credit Intern, Alyssa Love had a “marvelous” time with her friends. “Everything worked out fantastically, it was perfect!” exclaimed Alyssa. A stupendous slideshow about this past senior year was presented as seniors were eating

breakfast. Student government and senior class officers collected photos from students over the course of several months to compile the best

moments of Class of 2015. It was an occasion that everyone enjoyed; reminiscing about the past and awaiting fun adventures in the future. Senior superlatives were also announced

during breakfast. Over 15 categories were proclaimed to the senior class such as Best Dressed, Cutest Couple, and Most School-Spirited. Unfortunately not the entire senior class of 2015 was unable to attend the breakfast. Many argue that $35 is too much for a (decent) breakfast and a show. VPA Senior, Naya Schere opted out of buying a senior breakfast ticket so she could save the money for prom. “I am trying to stay below my budget till the end of this semester. “Senior year is becoming one of the most expensive years yet with graduation, college applications and prom adding up rapidly”, said Naya. As the end of another school year is vastly approaching, Senior Breakfast was the first of many fabulous upcoming senior events to arrive. It foreshown in the numerous events that give the

departing class the chance to enjoy their last few months as high school students before graduation swings them off into a new chapter of their lives.

Apple Watch vs. Pebble WatchBy: Nicanor Lapaix

Everyone has a list of movies that are coming up that they want to see. Some people would get excited and countdown the days till the movie comes out. This year lots of movies are coming out as squeals or the continuation of the movie series such as Pitch Perfect 2, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7, Finding Dory, The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay, Part 2, and Insurgent. “I can’t wait to watch Insurgent. I’ve read the book series and watched Divergent. I hope it comes out better than I actually expect,” says Jessica Patel, Junior. Insurgent has a 5/5 star fan rating on Fandango. Not only are there sequels, new movies are set to come out this year, such as Tomorrowland, B.O.O.: Bureau of

Otherworldly Operations, Run All Night, Cinderella, Unfriended, etc. “I would love to see Run All Night, it seems very action pact and it would keep you on your feet,” said Emily DeBiase. Run All Night is about an aging hit man son becomes a mob target and has to save his son from a fatal death. This movie stars Liam Neeson “…the best action star ever. I loved him in all the Taken movies,” said Melissa Maguina. The anticipation of waiting for a movie to come out is so nerve-wracking. But now some movies come out the night before in selected theaters. No one wants to wait too long for a movie to come out. “I believe this year’s upcoming movies would be the best ever,” said Alexis Artamendi.

Our very own Coral Reef alumni Ricky Ubeda and So You think You Can Dance Season 11 Winner is performing in the Broadway musical On the Town. As part of his winnings from So You Think You can Dance, he was rewarded a contract to perform on Broadway. The musical is set to premiere at the Lyric Theatre Stage from February 27 through April 26. On the Town is about three American sailors on a 24 hour leave in New York City in 1944. Each sailor meets a woman and instantly falls in love. On the town was first produced in 1944 on Broadway and was made into a film in 1949. The musical features the popular songs, “New York, New York”, “Lonely Town”, and “I Can Cook Too”. The original 1944 production of On the Town was known for its mixed race cast and the avoidance of racial stereotypes. The musical’s cast welcomed Ubeda with open arms. When he first arrived at the theater he said “they were all outside of the theater yelling and cheering for me.”

He also added that they got him a hat and took a picture with him and then got the chance to watch the whole run through of the show. He didn’t know what his role was until a few months before rehearsals started but he is part of the ensemble. Ubeda also said that he’s excited to “dabble” into the world of Broadway and try out singing wants to learn “how to carry a tune” as well as acting because he says that dancers are like actors but he wants to attempt a speaking role. Ubeda has had the opportunity of forming connections with professionals high up in the dancing/acting world through the show So Think You Can Dance. Ricky Ubeda worked with choreographers like Sonya Tayeh, Mandy Moore, and Travis Wall. When he started to get serious about dance at the age of 14, he trained at Stars Dance Studio, co-directed by former Season 6 So You Think You Can Dance alumni, Victor Smalley and he immediately became a mentor and lifelong friend for Ricky Ubeda. From all your fellow Coral Reef students, we wish you the best of luck!

By: Nicanor Lapaix With some new and improved smart watches coming out this year I thought it would be best to talk about it. First up is Apple‘s new smart watch. The Apple Watch will give you notifications whenever someone texts you, shows your calendar appointments and works as a fitness tracker. While exercising it can also work as a mini iPod and it can show you the time. The Apple watch only works on the iphone 5, 5c, 5s, 6 or 6 Plus. The Apple Watch has a small, bright color touch display plus a scroll-wheel digital crown and button on the side for extra features. You can touch and swipe to interact, or speak to its microphone. It also comes in a variety of styles that you are able to customize to make it feel more like you want it to be. When it comes out it’ll be $349 and it is rumored to come out some time in March. “I honestly wouldn’t spend any money on the Apple Watch, it’s extra

money I could spend on something else, though I know tons of other people who would wait in line for it,” said Louis Dorta. Pebble is also releasing a new smart watch this year however this isn’t the first one they have made. Originally Pebble used Kickstarter to get their original watch out, now they are back on Kickstarter to sell their new product Pebble Time. The Pebble time is made with plastic like the original was but with better modifications. The battery life is also the same as the original smart watch (7days) but they’ve added something most other smart watch companies haven’t done yet. Pebble is releasing their watches with smart straps meaning you can remove the strap you currently have on and replace it with something better. Pebble’s smart watch is $199 and which is half the price of the Apple Watch ($349) and it can also work for iOS or Android. “Although both watches are pretty cool I’d rather spend my money on something else,” Alejandro Pedrozo.

Mighty No. 9

By:Nicano Lapaix Mighty No. 9 is an upcoming action-platform video game in development by Comcept in conjunction with Inti Creates, and produced by Keiji Inafune. The creation of the game was done on Kickstarter, and incorporates heavy input from the public. Mighty No. 9 very closely resembles another of Inafune’s creation, Mega Man, in both gameplay and character design, and is considered by many as its spiritual successor. Gameplay in Mighty No. 9 is focused on 2D platforming with a blend of 2D and 3D artwork and animation. The player is able to run, jump and shoot projectiles at enemies they encounter.

Furthermore, the player will be able to acquire both weapons and abilities from enemies they defeat. The game originally was in development exclusively for Microsoft Windows, but ports for OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita were confirmed after the funding reached an established stretch goals for it. “I can’t wait for this game to come out, I played the original Mega Man games when I was younger and I’d love to see how this game puts its original spin on it,” said Louis Dorta. The Release of Mighty No.9 is set for some time in April 2015, so be on the lookout for that if your interested.

The Next Band Takes it all

Cudas Committed to Their AcademiesBy: Kristina Orozco As the year slowly comes to an end, students are either enjoying what’s left of their Academy activities, or dreading ever choosing one. From freshmen year, students are trained and prepared for what they think they want to do after college. In the last week, 407 randomly selected students took a survey on whether or not they would switch Academies if they were given the chance to before they enrolled in ninth grade. “If I could, I would try out IB,” says Legal Senior Ricardo Chavez. Not a surprise, Medical had the most students in their Academy who wouldn’t change it for the world. While filling out the survey, one of the Academy’s teachers, Mr.Josephs, asked the class “Would any of you leave?” Without any hesitation, the class in sync yelled out “No!” Only twelve students from those surveyed would switch – two to Business, two to Legal, three to IB, and five to VPA. In comparison, Legal had the least committed students with 87% that would have liked to switch; 48% wanting to

switch to Medical. Engineering and Agriscience were the second least committed Academy combined. Although many students were not surveyed, 88% would switch out of their Academy. Of the eighty-eight percent, 41% would switch to Medical as well. One hundred and fifty students aren’t too ecstatic about their own Academies. Approximately 35% of the population surveyed would switch to Medical; 14% for both Engineering & Agriscience and Legal; 23% to VPA; 12% to Business and 6% to IB. “ I never wanted to be in Legal, I want to be a Pediatrician. But I heard Medical was hard to get into so I chose Legal,” Natasha Dixon, a Legal Senior states. Many students who enroll their freshman year feel they’re sure of what they would like to do in the future, but the pressure of choosing at such a young and inexperienced age can lead to regretful decisions. “Going into engineering freshman year was very exciting. As time passed, I realized it

just wasn’t for me. Just like in college, I wish we were able to switch our academies to realize our true potential,” Alvaro Sanchez, an Engineering Junior says. “I would switch to legal.” Lilly Echevarria, a Senior in Medical is proud to be in her Academy. “We learn real life things that we are going to be able to use after we graduate.” Echevarria goes on to say that they learn how to save someone’s life, which is the most important lesson of all. “Medical teachers TEACH us. Hands on.” The Medical Academy ranked number one in satisfying their students, with VPA second and Business third. IB was the fourth most satisfied academy, while Legal and Engineering & Agriscience – ranked fifth and sixth – were the least satisfied academies. It’s hard to tell your parents that you’re not happy with what you’re doing, so kudos to the Cudas that pulled through. So many students leave every year because of so many reasons, which is fine too. We wish the best of luck to all students leaving, and remaining.

By: Mariela Jimenez Every year Coral Reef hosts “Reef’s Best,” competitive but friendly competition against students. All students are able to come out to compete, with many talents that can include dancing, singing, stand up comedy, poetry, and etc. This year had to be one tough competition with acts that were tough to follow after one another but yet seemed to be getting better as the show went on. Many of the contestants did well and had fun competing. In case you missed the show yourself, the contestants were The Next Band, Kelly Santi, CZAPY, Ivanna Crespo. Armonia Fusion, Jakob Namon, keelin, Paloma and the Boys, Yuddie Frev and Ivonne, Xzeenynh Gomez, Knight Daze, Rico Suave, Nina Hernandez, Ferb Rojas, Lexxy, Jonathan Mitzenmacher, Sebastian & Samm, and Cuda stomp. The hosts of this years Reef’s Best were John and Michael. They did a fantastic job with keeping the crowd on their toes and having a great time. When asking Ferb Rojas, a Reef’s Best contestant who did stand up

comedy, how it felt with being on the stage in front of all those people he said, “It felt great! There was no feeling like it! It really got the adrenaline pumping being in front of all those people. There was obviously a little bit of pressure but as long as my jokes were good, I was good.” And indeed they were! Many of the contestants did great and were showing off their many talents. They really brought many new things to the table whether it was dropping their first debut or dancing like a robot, it really kept the audience wanting more. “Seeing the show, it was incredible! I was pumped up the entire time and I was mostly excited to see one of my good friends kill it on stage,” says Sarah Marin, sophomore in the medical academy. A lot of the time many family and friends were yelling out there loved ones names, showing their support. But unfortunately, there was only going to be one winner. The winner of this year’s Reef’s Best was The Next Band, and in second place came, Rico Suave, who danced to “Earned it” by The Weekend.
