WHAT IS COPYRIGHTUSER.ORG?
COPYRIGHTUSER.ORG
CopyrightUser.org is an independent online resource aimed at making UK
Copyright Law accessible to creators, media professionals, entrepreneurs,
students and members of the public.
WHY ?

Copyright is not a discourse among experts anymore.
Every day many new ‘copyright users’ enter the digital creative marketplace.

Established in 2014
There is no central source for up-to-date guidance or advice on
copyright with the University Library
There is no specific staff member with particular responsibility for
copyright within the University library
Informal networks of expertise have developed, but not all staff know
about particular specialisms, or who to approach for advice
How do we update staff with changes to copyright legislation and
help them answer enquiries confidently, with no funding available
for a new member of staff, or for producing new internal
guidance?

COPYRIGHT WORKING GROUP
UNDERSTANDING UK COPYRIGHT LAW
We ran a short survey of library staff
This links in with the research methodology used by COPYRIGHT
USER
We asked staff what questions they had about the law
We asked staff to tell us what they get asked about most often by
library users
We asked them what they would like the content of a training day to
cover
