It gives us an extreme immense pleasure to present I - edition of Safe Hands Foundation –

A handbook for 10+2 students. This book mainly comprises of brief information

regarding the various national wide examinations for Engineering and Medicine

conducted every year as selection criteria for admissions of many reputed colleges and

universities.

We, members of Safe Hands Foundation, made a research, took help from great

1.1 Indian Institute of Technology – JEE

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a common admission test for candidates

seeking admission to the B.Tech programme. It is conducted by all the IITs in the month of

April every year.

This examination is for admission to undergraduate courses at all IITs like

Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur,

Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi, Patna, Rajasthan, Roorkee, Ropar and for IT-BHU Varanasi ,

ISM Dhanbad.

Eligibility:

Candidates who have secured 60% (5% relaxation for SC/ST/PD) marks in aggregate

in their respective board examination are eligible for the test.

With effect from year 2006, a candidate is allowed to take only two attempts to write

JEE. Further more explanation, he/she is allowed to write JEE only in the year in which

he/she passes the qualifying examination and/or in the following year.

Application forms and brochure:

Application material can be obtained from the designated branches of Canara Banks

as well as by sending a DD as mentioned in the prospectus of that year to the chairman’s

address of respective IIT.

Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in English or in Hindi. The option

should be exercised while filling the application form. The option cannot be changed at any

later stages.

Exam Pattern: The JEE will be a single objective type examination which will test the

comprehension and analytical abilities of students. Questions are to be answered on a

specially designed machine-graded sheet using HB pencils only. Incorrect answers will be

awarded negative marks.

Use of Calculators and Log tables are NOT permitted in JEE.

1.2 Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (Thiruvananthapuram)

IIST is Asia’s first Space Institute and the first in the world to offer the complete

range of undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral programmes with specific focus to space

science, technology and applications. It is situated in picturesque locale of Valiamala in

Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala.

This unique concept took root in January 2007, when IIST was registered as a Society

under the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act,

1955. IIST received the approval of the Union Cabinet on 26 April, 2007 and it was formally

inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair. In a little less than a year of its

establishment, IIST received the recognition of UGC as a Deemed University under Section 3

of UGC Act, 1956.

The Institute has the unique mandate of encouraging and equipping brilliant

youngsters from all parts of the country to take up a career as Scientist/Engineer in the Indian

Space Research Organisation. IIST functions as an autonomous body under the Department

of Space, Government of India.

IIST Admission Test (ISAT) Admissions to the undergraduate programmes (B.Tech.) at IIST will be made through

an All India Admission Test (ISAT). Brief information about ISAT is given below.

B.Tech. Programmes

The total number of seats for the undergraduate programmes in IIST for the year 2011

is 156. The branch-wise distribution of seats is as follows:

1. B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering: 59 seats

2. B.Tech. in Avionics: 58 seats

3. B.Tech. in Physical Sciences: 39 seats

Type of Examination The question paper will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections

on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

How to Apply Candidates can apply on-line only. The online application form will be available at

the IIST website. Candidates will be guided at this stage about how to complete the

application process, remit examination fee etc.

ELIGIBILITY

• Citizenship Only Indian citizens are eligible to write ISAT.

• Minimum Percentage of Marks in Class X or equivalent examination. Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in

aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination, while, those belonging to SC, ST and

PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent

examination.

• Minimum Percentage of Marks in 10 + 2 or equivalent examination Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in

the aggregate in their Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) papers in their QE, while,

those belonging to SC,ST and PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in the aggregate

in their PCM papers in their QE.

1.3 Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITSAT)

Eligibility: For admission to any of the above Integrated First Degree programmes Candidates

should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State

board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate

should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and

Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics,

Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and should have adequate proficiency in English.

Students who are appearing for 12th examination in current year or who have passed

12th Examination in previous year only are eligible to appear in the BITSAT test. Students

who have passed 12th examination before that are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT.

Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear

in BITSAT.

Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position of the candidate for

admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT. However,

their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in

12th examination, as mentioned above.

The Institute considers only the latest performance through a public examination for

admission. If the results of the latest examination are not available within the due date for

submission of application, the candidate will not be considered even if there are some earlier

performances of 12th class or its equivalent or any higher examination available with

him/her. If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th class or its equivalent, only

his latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of

subjects/courses prescribed.

Direct Admission to Board Toppers:

In the past, admission process of the Institute always ensured guaranteed admission to

all the students who obtained first ranks in their respective board examinations. This has

given a very vital input of highly meritorious students from all over India. Continuing this

tradition, the Institute will give direct admission to first rank students of all the central and

state boards to the programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT score.

Eligibility criteria for admission under ‘Direct admission to Board toppers’ scheme:

To be eligible for admission under the 'Direct admission to Board toppers' scheme, the

candidate should be the topper from the science stream having taken Physics, Chemistry,

Mathematics subjects in 12th. To identify the topper, the following criteria will be adopted.

a) has taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 12th and

b) has obtained the highest aggregate percentage of marks in 12th among all the

students who have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in that year

from the Board. For the purpose of calculating the aggregate percentage, the

aggregate marks should include the marks of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

subjects in addition to other subjects which are required to pass the 12th examination

from the Board under consideration. Further, the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

subject marks should be included in the aggregate, irrespective of whether the

Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects are identified as main/optional/elective

in his mark sheet(s).

Applicants under the scheme should attach documentary proof in support of their

claim, along with the 12th mark sheet and a letter from the Board declaring the candidate as

the topper in the specified stream. The Institute will also make efforts to get these data from

the different boards on its own. In all cases, the Institute will be guided by the data provided

by the concerned Board. In cases where for a particular board, the data available before the

deadline is insufficient or inconclusive, the admission committee may decide not to make any

offer under the scheme for that specified Board. In all such cases, the decision of the Vice

chancellor will be final and binding on the applicants

Instructions for Payment: (1) The above are for a normal situation. Wherever a student's programme gets modified or

his progress is delayed beyond the maximum permissible, such a student is advised to consult

the appropriate authority before registration.

(2) The fees and other charges are payable in advance in each semester/term on the notified

dates before registration. No withdrawal from a course or courses will entitle a student for

refund of fees.

(3) Students who go for Practice School II will be charged semester fees and the summer

term fees because the practice school is longer than a semester and extends it to summer.

(4) Casual students will pay fees prescribed for regular students.

(5) Institute caution deposits are refundable only at the time of withdrawal from the Institute.

(6) If there are dues outstanding from a student, his grades will be withheld.

(7) Students who accumulate mess arrears would be required to pay a prescribed additional

advance at the time of next registration.

(8) Refunds, if any, will be made through crossed cheques/Bank drafts.

How to apply:

Online: Interested candidates should register their names for BITSAT by applying in the

prescribed application form online. Complete the application form Online

at http://www.bitsadmission.com and take the print out of the filled form. The completed

application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for female

candidates) should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani – 333 031. Details for

payment of fees are available at the website while applying online.

By Post: Application form can also be obtained by post from the Admissions Office,

BITS, Pilani by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name and gender

with complete postal address, accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs. 1100/- (Rs.

600/- for Female candidates). This amount includes the prescribed fees and Rs. 100/- towards

postal and handling charges. The form will be sent by Speed Post / Registered Post. Please re-

check with the website for the details and amount of DD to be drawn.

Scheme of Examination:

Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e.

• 1st paper - consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of

equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses.

• 2nd paper - consisting of Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing for

B.Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate

candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural

awareness.

Eligibility Criteria

The minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE is a pass in the

final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying

examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also

appear in AIEEE for consideration of provisional admission.

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at All India Engineering /

Architecture Entrance Examination shall be limited to 03(three) uniformly for all the

candidates in consecutive years including the year of appearing/passing the 10+2 (Class XII)

or its equivalent qualifying examination

Age should be less than 24 years. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC),

Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates, upper age limit is

relaxed by 5 years. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University

certificate only will be taken as authentic.

Online-based test

All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) goes online from

2011. One lakh students will get the opportunity to appear for the first online AIEEE to be

conducted in April 2011 as a pilot run.

The exam will not be conducted over internet and it will be a Computer Based Test

(CBT). The online exam will be conducted over a period of time. The online option is not

compulsory and the first 1 lakh who opt for it will be allowed to take the test online. The rest

of the students will have to appear as per the conventional paper-based method. More details

regarding online examination pattern, application procedure etc. will be available in the

concerned website.

Scoring and Negative Marking

There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer.

For each incorrect response one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would

be deducted. No deduction from the total score will be made if no response is indicated for a

question in the answer sheet. All objective type questions are required to be answered on

specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball

point pen (black/blue) only.

The question papers for the Examination shall be based on a common minimum

syllabus drawn from syllabi taught in different State Boards.

Language of the Question Papers

Candidates can opt for question papers either in English or in Hindi. The option has to

be exercised while filling Application Form. It cannot be changed later.

Examination Centres Cities

Tentative list of cities where the examination shall be conducted is given below.

Candidates are required to give four options convenient to them. While every effort will be

made to allot a Centre in one of the places opted by the candidate, the Board reserves its

discretion to allot a Centre other than that of candidate’s choice any where in India. Under no

circumstances, the Centre once allotted shall be changed by the Board.

Admit Card

The Admit Card will be sent by post "Under Certificate of Posting (UPC)" to the

candidates (including those who made application online) about four weeks before the

conduct of the examination, however, the Board will not be responsible for any consequences

that may arise due to loss of admit card in transit. It will be the responsibility of the candidate

to contact/write to the Board in case he/she is not in receipt of the Admit Cards by mentioned

date in the notification of AIEEE exam of that particular year.

In no case the duplicate Admit Card would be issued at the Examination

Centres.

Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks (being different for

General, OBC, SC/ST/PH category candidates) to be called for counselling shall be

determined at the time of declaration of AIEEE results. All India/State Rank and marks shall

also be released on AIEEE website.

Rule of central counseling board for AIEEE

As per the direction of the MHRD 50% of the seats in NITs will be filled from AIEEE

eligible candidates of States where NITs are located and rest 50% will be filled on All

India Merit basis. MHRD will make efforts to establish NITs for those States/UTs which

do not have NITs as of now. In case, the new NITs are not established before the start of

admission based on AIEEE exam of that year, seats will be made available for the eligible

students of such States/UTs which do not have any NIT, so as to keep the number of seats

for such States/UTs at the level of 2007, after making due adjustment for the number of

seats filled by eligible candidates of these States/UTs.

Eligibility

The minimum academic qualification for admission through MAHE is a pass in the

final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying

examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also

appear in MAHE.

Exam Pattern

The questions appearing on the screen will be in English. All questions will be of the

Multiple Choice Question (MCQ type). Each MCQ will consist of a stem which may be in

the form of a question or an incomplete statement and four responses labeled A, B, C and D.

One of the four responses only is the correct or most appropriate answer. Candidates must

choose the correct or most appropriate answer by clicking on the button next to the answer.

Candidates can navigate freely through the questions.

Scoring, Negative marking Each question carries one mark. Each correct answer will be awarded one mark. The

wrong answer or unanswered questions will receive NO (positive/negative) mark.

The final score will be displayed in the test screen immediately after the test. The

candidate should acknowledge the score in the print out of the score card in the presence of

the invigilator.

Selection Process

Admission to the B Tech (ICT) program will be based on the All India Rank of

AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination), which is being conducted by CBSE.

Therefore, only candidates who are appearing for AIEEE can apply for this program of DA-

IICT.

The short-listed candidates, based on the All India Ranking of AIEEE, will be called

for counselling at Gandhinagar and will be offered admission in order of their merit. A

limited number of seats will be offered through a separate channel called ‘Direct Admission

of Foreign and NRI Students’ (DAFS) to Non-Resident Indians, Foreign Nationals and

Persons of Indian Origin.

Number of Seats

The intake will be 240. Out of these, fifty percent seats will be filled, on the basis of

the All India Rank of AIEEE, from the candidates passing their qualifying examination (i.e.

12th standard or equivalent) from the schools located outside the Gujarat State while the

remaining fifty percent seats will be filled, on the basis of the All India Rank of AIEEE, from

the candidates passing their qualifying examination (i.e. 12th standard or equivalent) from the

schools located in the Gujarat State. In addition to these 240 seats, 24 seats will be offered to

Non-Resident Indians/Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin through DAFS.

The Institute may change the number of seats without any notice.

Seats reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories

are 15% and 7.5% respectively. Candidates belonging to these categories will be admitted on

relaxed criteria as compared to the general category candidates.

In case some of the reserved seats are not filled, the unfilled seats will be transferred

to the general category.

Eligibility

The minimum academic qualification for admission is a pass in the 12th standard or

its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Computer Science. Candidates

appearing in the qualifying examination in current year are also eligible to apply for

consideration of provisional admission.

Scholarships

DA-IICT offers two categories of scholarships for B Tech students. One is based

on merit and the other based on merit-cum-means. In each category, up to five students are

awarded scholarships equivalent to full tuition fees. For merit scholarship, only the students

having AIEEE All India Rank up to 2500 will be considered.

Submission of Application Form

A candidate has to apply in the prescribed DA-IICT Application Form. A photocopy of

the AIEEE Admit Card is also required to be enclosed with the completed DA-IICT

Application Form and sent to the Institute in the envelope provided for the purpose. DA-IICT

Application Form Number should be written on the top right corner of the photocopy of the

AIEEE admit card.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences was established by an Act of Parliament of 1956 as an

Autonomous Institution of national importance and its own objectives and functions were

Eligibility and Qualifications

He/She has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age

on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS

Course and is an INDIAN NATIONAL. The upper age limit for All India Pre-Medical /Pre-

Dental Entrance Examination is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the entrance

examination. Further provided that this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 (five)

years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes.

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at All India Pre-Medical/Pre-

Dental Entrance Examination shall be limited to 3 (three) uniformly for all the candidates.

Students from the States of Andhra Pradesh/J&K are not eligible, as both these

States had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility they

must submit an affidavit, in original, in the Proforma on Rs 10/- Non-Judicial Stamp Paper

duly sworn before and attested by a Metropolitan Magistrate/First Class Judicial Magistrate

to the effect that:-

a) They are not eligible to compete for MBBS/BDS seats in the States of Andhra

Pradesh/J&K and hence not eligible to seek admission in Medical/Dental Colleges of Andhra

Pradesh/J&K.

and

b) They are not domiciled in Andhra Pradesh/J&K.

Provided that to be eligible for competitive entrance examination, candidate must

have passed any of the qualifying examinations equivalents to 10+2. Provided also that to be

eligible for competitive entrance examination the candidate must have passed in the subjects

of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum

of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the qualifying

examination.

In respect of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other

Backward Classes the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in

qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination be 40% marks instead of 50%

for General Candidates. Further, for persons with locomotory disability of lower limbs, the

minimum of 45% marks for Gen-PH and 40% marks for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH are

required.

Provided further that the students of Indian Nationality educated abroad seeking

admission into medical colleges in India must have passed in the subjects of Physics,

Chemistry, Biology and English upto the 12th standard level with 50% marks and their

equivalency determined as per regulations of the Medical Council of India and the concerned

University.

If a candidate does not fall within the qualifications prescribed as per Code number

01-06 he/she should furnish complete details to determine eligibility.

Reservation

Reservation will be made as per following details in 15% All India quota:

(i) 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates,

(ii) 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates,

(iii) 27% seats are reserved for non-creamy layer OBC candidates in Central

Educational Institutions only as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order dated 10.04.2008,

(iv) 3% seats are reserved on horizontal basis for PH candidates. The reservation will be

made as per 2200 point reservation roster. The mode of implementation of reservation will be

available on DGHS website-www.mohfw.nic.in.

(a) The Pre-medical course may be conducted either at a Medical College or at a Science

College.

(b) After the 10+2 course is introduced the integrated courses be abolished.

(c) Marks obtained in Mathematics are not to be considered for admission to M.B.B.S.

2.3 Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (AFMC)

Admission Procedure

The AFMC is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik and is

recognised by the Medical Council of India. Admission to MBBS course is based on written

examination. The written examination is held on 1st Sunday of May. Successful candidates

are called for interview in June for the courses starting in July. Admission is subject to

medical fitness.

Prospectus

Prospectus is available on sale at all Major City GPOs/ HPO's/ Pos from the date of

advertisement for approximately one month.

Course Duration

The duration of MBBS course is four and a half year followed by internship of one year.

Service Liability

Students have compulsory liability to serve as Commissioned Officers in the Armed

Forces Medical Services. The offer of the type of commission will depend on the vacancies

available. The candidates' parents/guardians are required to sign a bond agreement at the time

of admission.

Eligibility and qualifications

A candidate seeking admission to the MBBS course is eligible to take the entrance

examination if he/she fulfills the following criteria:

• A candidate should be a citizen of India or be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan or a person

of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan or any other foreign country with the

intention of permanently settling in India.

• Must be unmarried. Marrying during the course is not permitted.

• Should be medically fit as per prescribed standards by the Govt. of India, Ministry of

Defence

• Must have attained the age of 17yrs on 31st Dec of the year of application, but must

not have attained the age of 22 years on that date (Not more than 24 years in case of

candidates who have passed or are appearing in final B Sc examinations).

Academic Qualifications Candidate must have passed all the subjects opted for in the first attempt of the

qualifying examinations as a regular candidate with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology

taken simultaneously and securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these 3

science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in

each of the science subjects. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics of

the 10th standard.

Number of Seats

A total of 130 students (105 boys & 25 girls) will be admitted.

Method of Selection

Candidates, who are found provisionally eligible as per the criteria of eligibility, will

be called at one of the examination centres to appear in the competitive examination on 1st

Sunday of May. Issue of admit cards. however does not necessarily mean acceptance of

eligibility which will be further scrutinized at subsequent stages of selection. The written

examination centre will be allotted to candidates depending upon the administrative

arrangements for the examination and availability of adequate seating capacity. The Roll

Number of the candidates who qualify for interview based on the above written examination

will be published in the leading newspapers. The college/DGAFMS take no responsibility for

any error or omission in the roll numbers published in the newspapers.

Interview of Candidate

On the basis of their performance in the written examination selected candidates in

order of roll numbers will be called for an interview to be held in the month of June at

AFMC, PUNE. The exact date of the above interview will be intimidated to the selected

candidates. Request for change of date of interview will NOT be entertained. The candidates

will be required to produce originals of all certificates/mark sheets at the time of interview.

All candidates will produce result or proof of having appeared in the qualifying examination

held, at the time of interview (if the result of such examination has not been declared).

On the basis of the above test and interview two merit lists, one for boys and one for

girls, will be drawn up and admissions will be offered only to candidates in accordance with

their merit position. Individual letters of admission will be sent only to selected candidates

who would be required to join AFMC. The remaining candidates will be on waiting list. The

result will be published by the DGAFMS in the newspapers.

SC/ST Candidates

Ten seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates provided:

The SC/ST candidates must qualify in the written examination and come within the zone to

be called up for interview. They must come within the first 500 in the final combined

merit list of boys and girls.

Medical Standards

The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disability likely

to interfere with the efficient performance of duty in the Armed Forces.

Medical examination will be done by a Board of Officers at AFMC Pune, prior to admission

to the College. Medical Board will categorize as Fit and Unfit, in accordance with the

prescribed standards. Candidates declared as UNFIT are entitled to appeal on payment of a

fee of Rs. 40/-. The procedure will be intimated to the concerned candidates by the President

of the Medical Board.

Eligibility

Candidate must be an Indian National. The minimum academic qualification for

admission through MAHE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its

equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination with: physics, Chemistry, Biology and

English for admission to MBBS/BDS with a minimum of 50% marks in PCB subjects. Those

appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also appear in MAHE.

Admissions are done on the basis of rank in the All India MAHE Under Graduate

Entrance Test.

Test Pattern

The test duration is of 2:30 hours and consists of 240 multiple choice questions. The

question paper will be in English. The approximate distribution of questions is as follows:

Physics – 60 ques.

Chemistry – 60 ques.

Biology – 80 ques.

English & Gen. Aptitude – 40 ques.

2.5 Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS)

Applications are invited on prescribed form for admission to MBBS course. The

candidates shall be selected as per their merit in the Entrance Examination at Nagpur, Delhi,

Hyderabad & Mumbai. Those students who are going to appear in 10+2 Higher Secondary

Board Examination in March / April are also eligible to appear in the competitive Entrance

Examination.

Eligibility

The candidate must be an Indian National. The candidate must attain 17 years of age on

or before 31st December of the year of admission. The Candidate must have passed 12th

standard examination under 10+2 system of Maharashtra State Higher Secondary Education

Board or equivalent examination of any recognised Board or any Indian University with

English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually in each subject in one and the same

attempt. The candidate must have obtained minimum 50% marks (40% in the case of SC/ ST/

VJ/ NT/ OBC) taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The fee structure in MGIMS is as applicable to the Govt. Medical Colleges in

Maharashtra State. The Institute does not have any paid seats.

The candidate should be medically fit to undergo the professional course. He/She will

have to undergo a medical examination at Kasturba Hospital of MGIMS during the time of

admission. Admission to the MBBS course of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences

is made according to the rules & regulations of the Kasturba health society (the parent body)

and the institute (MGIMS). These are subject to alterations, amendments and modifications

as may be considered necessary from time to time as per directions from government of

India, Maharashtra Government, Supreme Court, MCI and the competent authorities of

K.H.S / MGIMS.

Examination Pattern

The competitive entrance examination shall be conducted by MGIMS at Delhi, Nagpur,

Hyderabad and Mumbai Centres (Tentatively). Candidate can choose any of the above

mentioned centers. However, the centre will be allotted on first come first serve basis. In case

there is no vacancy at a centre, other centre will be allotted with intimation to the candidate

two weeks before the date of examination. No change in centre will be permitted once opted.

The competitive Entrance Examination shall consist of two papers:

a) Paper I will be common question paper in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry &

Biology consisting of 180 multiple choice, single response type questions, 60 in each subject.

The candidate is expected to attempt all the 180 questions in the common answer sheet. Out

of four circles provided for selection of answer against a question, the candidate should shade

one circle only. Each correct answer will be given one mark. There will be no negative

marking for wrong answers. Duration of paper will be of 180 minutes.

b) Paper II will be on Gandhian thought and shall carry 60 marks. It shall be of three

hours duration and the questions will be of essay type and/or short answer question type. The

paper may be answered either in English or Hindi. Only one 32 page answer sheet will

provided for writing the answers and no additional supplementary answer sheet will be

provided.

c) The medium of language for all question papers will be English only.

The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India competitive written test for admission to

MBBS course (84 seats) in TWO stages: PMT SCREENING and PMT MAIN, and for BDS

(38 seats), BAMS (78 seats) and B. Pharm. (33 seats) courses in ONE stage: PMT Screening.

Tentative Centres:

For Screening Test, Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres, to screen candidates

for eligibility to appear in PMT MAIN examination for MBBS course will be held in June

(tentatively) at Varanasi Centre only. For BDS/BAMS/B.Pharm. courses, candidates will be

demand draft for Rs 700/- for 3 subjects (PCM or PCB) and Rs 900/- for all 4 subjects

(PCMB) in favor of COMEDK, payable at Bangalore (non refundable fee) and posted to the

below given COMEDK address along with the demand draft and the documents asked for on

or before date as mentioned in the prospectus (neither the application forms or filled in

application will be sold or received in COMEDK office or any member institution). (Re-

Eligibility:

• Candidates should have passed the qualifying equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary

Examination after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of study comprising

of Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English.

• A candidate for admission to “medical course” “must have 60%* marks at +2 level in

each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany and Zoology taken together) and

should have passed in English”.

• Candidates should have passed in all subjects of the qualifying examination of the

Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (Academic) conducted by the Tamil Nadu

State Board or any other equivalent examination in one and the same attempt in the

subjects.

• Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or

should complete the said age on or before 31st December of the said year.

There is no NRI quota in the college. All admissions are only on the basis of merit, taken

overall, in an entrance examination, other tests and interviews.

All candidates from India or abroad with qualifications other than the 'Plus Two Examination

of Higher Secondary Board' of Tamilnadu State should obtain an Eligibility Certificate from

the TN Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai 600 032, Tamilnadu, in order to be eligible

for admission. Only candidates who qualify the written test will be called for the interviews.

Non-Indian nationals will have to obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Government of

India by applying through the Principal/Dean of the College to the Ministry of Health and

Family Welfare, Government of India, Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi - 110 001.

There is an application fee which can be sent as a demand draft, payable at Vellore to the

CMC Vellore Association Account. Application forms for the degree courses will be

available from mid February of the year until around early April for the sessions beginning in

July. For medical post-graduate training, forms are available September to October and the
