CHANGES…• Changes to my Power Point Presentation- Copyright Infringement

• I added a picture of myself to personalize the presentation in the original Slide #1.

• I moved the Copyright heading upwards on slide #1 for plain formatting purposes.

• I added a slide that showcases all of my additions and deletions to my PowerPoint presentation.

• I changed the logic behind why copyright infringement is bad in today’s internet driven world in Slide #2.

• I changed the picture in the original Slide #2 to one that would give more of a shock factor.

• I changed the title of the original Slide #2 to “Bad Consequences,” which is a more reflective heading.

• I changed the original color of Slide #2 to a peach hue.

• I changed the title of the original Slide #3 to ““COPYRIGHT THIEF!” “WHO ME?” “YES, YOU.” “COULDN’T BE!” “THEN WHO?”

• The above title seemed catchy, and I think that it would grab people’s attention. I’ve learned through this degree plan that you always want to be creative when producing a product.

• I added a picture to the original Slide #3 that connected the idea of copyright infringement to a real life copyright infringement situation- Vimeo.

• I removed the original Slide #4- it wasn’t important, nor motivating.

• I enlarged the original Slide #5, and removed stuffy and unimportant text.

• I removed the original Slide #6.

• I added a picture to the original Slide#7.

BAD CONSEQUENCES…

Stealing is a bad thing. So why does copyright infringement happen at such a high rate? Simply put- because it’s easy to take something that has already been created and just slap your name on it. After all, we live in a society where we want things done fast. So it makes sense that copyright infringement is on the rise now with the invention of the internet.

“COPYRIGHT THIEF!” “WHO ME?” “YES, YOU.” “COULDN’T BE!” “THEN WHO?”

Copyright infringement, as defined by Wikipedia.org, states: "Copyright infringement (or copyright violation) is the unauthorized use of material that is protected by intellectual property rights law particularly the copyright in a manner that violates one of the original copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works that build upon it. The slang term bootleg (derived from the use of the shank of a boot for the purposes of smuggling) is often used to describe illicitly copied material."

Everyone looses when you steal someone's original idea, or body of work. It takes time and a lot of money to recover losses when you commit copyright infringement. Who wants a law suit behind them? Not me…

So if you find yourself at the point where you may commit copyright infringement- ask yourself…”Is it really worth it?” If the answer is no…then go with that, you’ve made the right choice.

WELL, THE ANSWER IS REALLY QUITE SIMPLE INDEED…

“GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!”

Written work, ideas or images that came from an outside source should reference where they were attained.

SO HOW MUCH OF SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK CAN BE USED WITHOUT PERMISSION?

The Fair Doctrine states that “a limited amount of work maybe used including quotes, for purpose such as commentary, criticism, news reporting and scholarly reports (www.copyright.gov).” However, no actual amount of work is stipulated; it is all circumstantial to the particular case.
