20 YEARS OF UNITHER

Unither Pharmaceuticals is 20 years old. Unither was created from a buyout of a Sanofi drug manufacturing plant, which at the time was generating turnover of $2.5 million, and it grew quickly in the sterile single-dose sector. In 2000, the management team formed a financial partnership to accelerate the Group’s development with a focus on external growth.

Unither then bought another sterile single-dose production site in 2002 and went on to diversify its portfolio by penetrating the effervescent segment and drug development with a buyout of the Créapharm Group in November 2005.

The Unither Pharmaceuticals 20th anniversary newsletter

For every type of consumption, product presentation has been focused on “portions” and “doses” for 20 years. There are many reasons for this.

Consumption awareness in the biscuit world opened a whole new avenue for products where now you could slip two or three biscuits into your child’s book bag pre-packaged in cellophane.

It’s the same at the office. Now you can just bring one portion of cheese and a mini-container of fruit salad. It’s convenient and more hygienic. No more waste, you always have the right amount.

So-called “mobile” consumption offers easily divisible parts and is more reliable. We no longer

open a whole bottle of Coca-Cola or Evian, just a can or small 33 cl bottle.

The same phenomena happened for detergent. Instead of pouring a dose of powder or liquid, manufacturers all over the world are successfully selling big tablets or liquid packets. They are easier to use, waste less product and are more convenient. It has been a standard for 20 years.

“Single-dose” products have been around for a long time. As early as 1919, Danone was marketing yoghurt in Spain that came in deposit jars and it was a key to their success.

In 1993, Unither began producing unidoses in Amiens as part of this trend. Today, Unither is one of the top trend-leaders and the global pioneer of the unidose.

For 20 years, Unither has been combining mobile use, convenience and hygiene. The venture began in Amiens in 1993. In 2013, Unither unidoses are being used in over 90 countries.
