science journalismApplications are invited from women with MSc degree orpursuing PhD/Post-doc. Those who fulfill any of these criteria andare already employed in a scientific organisation may apply too.Upper age limit is 40 years.
Selection for the workshop will be made based on qualification,prior experience, statement on their future career choice, andcurrent job (if employed) profile.

This 3-day workshop will be delivered by:Dr. Rebekah Smith McGloin andDr. Heather Sears, Coventry University, UK
Dr. Smith McGloin has expertise in sciencecommunication training and teachingresearchers to write for a variety of audiences.Rebekah has a track record in workingspecifically with doctoral and earlycareerresearchers to develop science writing skills.She has led successful projects to train morethan 200 doctoral students and earlycareerresearchers in science communication, in
partnership with the London Science Museum, and science outreachprogrammes at the Sanger Institute and Wellcome Trust. More generallyshe has worked extensively on programmes to support advanced writingskills in doctoral and earlycareer researchers, including writing for thepublic, for government and writing press releases. She has overallresponsible for researcher development programmes at CoventryUniversity and chairs the UK national Doctoral Training Alliance trainingcommittee. She is a member of the UK Biotechnology and BiologicalSciences Research Council national skills and employability strategy paneland the UK Council for Graduate Education.
Dr. Heather Sears is a microbiologist andresearcher development professional with anexceptional track record in training design andworkshop facilitation. She is particularlyexperienced in delivering professional andcareer development and women’sdevelopment programmes. She has extensiveexperience of delivering sciencecommunication programmes internationally, including science journalism workshops to research students in Malaysiaand Indonesia (European‘TRANSLINK’ project) and ‘Communicating andpresenting ideas effectively across disciplines and cultural domains’(British Council RENKEI researcher development school) in China.
