Canteen News: After a turbulent first 2 terms and following on from a recent survey it is with regret that the

Copacabana Public School P&C must inform the school community that the school canteen will close at the end of Term 2.

The P&C would like to thank all those parents over the years who have volunteered their time or donations to help the canteen provide a valuable service to the students.

However, with constant monitoring of income and expenditure as well as receiving financial advice and taking on board the 29 out of a possible 200 surveys returned, we are unfortunately no longer in a position to continue operating the canteen as it has been.

We are looking at alternatives, but please be aware that they may not be up and running at the start of Term 3. We will endeavour to keep the school community aware of what is happening and again take

this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support. Copacabana P&C Executive

Five Lands Walk:

The Five Lands Walk is on Saturday 22 June. The students have been working on their artworks that will be on display at the beach and around the Surf Club on the day. They have also been working on a special performance. This performance will be on the green outside

the Surf Club at approximately 10.15am. We need as many students as possible to meet Miss Lewis at the Surf Club by 9.30am (near the raised platform at the front of the Surf Club). Students need to wear

black / blue pants or tights and a bright, colourful t-shirt. Musical instruments will be supplied by the school.

NAIDOC:

On the last day of term, Friday 28 June, Copa School will be celebrating NAIDOC week. We will be having special activities between recess and lunch time and an assembly after recess where

Kindergarten will be performing the shake-a-leg dance. Parents are welcome to attend! All students are asked to wear something red, black or yellow in recognition of the colours of the Aboriginal flag.

Education Week: Education Week is held throughout Week 3 of Term 3.

This year as members of the Kincumba Learning Community the school will be a part of a static display outside Myers in Erina Fair throughout Education Week from Monday 29 July to Sunday 4 August. We

will also perform with the other schools in our Learning Community on Tuesday 30 July in The Hive from 10.30am—12.30pm.

At school we will have a open afternoon on Wednesday 31 July from 1.45pm and the schools annual athon will be held on Friday 2 August. The Kincumber High School Roadshow will visit us on Thursday 1 July.

More information will be sent home next term.

Meeting Spot: A meeting spot has been designated as the area next to the walkway to the Office. This spot is for

students to wait in full view of executive staff on bus duty if they have not been picked up, or have not been able to find their parents at the end of the school day. If a child is not collected by 3pm, they will

wait inside the School Office and phone calls will be made to parents. If a parent is running late, a call to the Office will assist us informing your child to wait at the meeting spot or in the School Office. Students have been shown this meeting spot at daily assembly by staff.

Congratulations—Kitty: Kitty attended Australia‟s largest Figure Skating Event named the Hollins Trophy in Sydney. It is

attended once per year by the top skaters Australia wide in 8 different divisions of ability including Australia‟s finest Development levels, International and Olympic Representatives.

Kitty skated in the National Development level called Preliminary division. She skated in an open age division of 24 skaters from around Australia and New Zealand most of whom were in their teens. Kitty placed first in her division, an awesome result for her first major competition.

We congratulate you Kitty on your achievement.

Congratulations—Zade: Congratulations to Zade who has been selected for the Sydney North Touch Football Team.

Mr Mitch Frew

Netball: Last Friday the school netball team travelled to Woodport Public School to play against Ettalong in the PSSA Knockout Competition. All the girls displayed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the

game. Unfortunately, after a close first half, Ettalong ended up winning the game 6—11 putting an end to our Copa Diamonds for this year.

Once again a huge thank you to our wonderful parent supporters who assisted in transporting the team to our game.

Cross Country News: Congratulations to the nine students that represented Copacabana Public School and Southern Central

Coast PSSA at the Sydney North Cross Country Carnival last Thursday at Gosford Racecourse. All students tried their best and should be proud of their efforts on the difficult and soggy course. Many students placed in the top 20 or 30 in their age group and each displayed excellent sportsmanship and

courage. In conjunction with Australian Fundraising Specialists, the 2013 Copacabana Public School Cross

Country managed to raise an amazing $4,225.00 for the school which is an amazing effort by the students, parents and community. This money will be spent on purchasing netbooks and resources to

compliment our social and emotional well being programs for our students. Students should have received their nominated prizes, please contact Mrs Mumford if your child has not received their prize.

The Day Of The Excursion On Monday, 17 June, 2013 2L and a few more classes went on an excursion. We saw lots of fish,

sharks, lobsters, jelly fish, octopuses, stingrays and crabs and green sea eels. They were ugly, very ugly that Mrs Lanning freaked out! We had favourites too: Mrs Lanning‟s favourite was the sea dragon.

It was so well camouflaged. My favourite was a little fish. Its head and half a body was a gorgeous purple and the tail and half a body was bright yellow. It was amazing!!!! Then we went to the sharks.

They were scary, very scary! Then we went to the Wild Life Park. We saw wallaby‟s and cassowary. We saw devils. The most exciting part was when the crocodile was fed two fat hens. The crocodile was five metres long! But I can‟t remember how much it weighed but I think it weighed a lot. Then we

went to the butterfly tropical enclosure. It was filled with butterflies!!!! It was beautiful! Some landed on Matilda‟s hand and one on her head. It looked like a butterfly clip.

Then we went back to school on a bus. It was lots of fun. By Nika 18.6.13 The Excursion to Sydney On Monday 17 June, 2013 year 1 and year 2 went to Sydney on a coach with a TV. We went to see the

animals at the Aquarium and Wild life Park. Firstly we had recess and I had scooby-doo biscuits. Then we went to our groups and I had Michelle for my leader. Then we went and saw some sea dragons and then we saw some sea horses. Then we

went and walked in the under water tunnels. We saw some flat sharks and a dugong. There were also saw some big dory‟s and Port Jackson sharks. Then we saw some grey nurse sharks. Then we went to

night vision and saw glow in the dark jelly fish and glow in the dark eye fish. We saw some tropical fish and they were blue and yellow. We saw some tiny Nemo Clownfish too. Then we walked on some

glass and fish swam under us. Then we went to have lunch. I had 2 mushrooms and 1 cheese scone. We then went to the Wild Life Park and we saw a koala. Then we went in and I found a butterfly that

was on a wall because it had escaped from the butterfly tree tops. I picked it up and put it back. Then we went and saw the Tasmanian Devils. Then we went and saw a goanna. Then we saw the wallaby‟s

that my brother calls “wobellys”. We went and walked in through the kangaroo walk. We then heard the crocodile talk. Rex is 5 metres long and the keepers fed him 2 chickens! By Louise 18.6.13 On Monday the 17 June, 2013 the whole of year 1 and year 2 went on an excursion to Sydney

Aquarium and Wild Life park. There were three groups for year 2. I was in Mrs Lanning‟s group and the things we saw were sharks, sea dragons, jelly fish that were glowing and we saw crabs, octopuses,

sea horses and sting rays. We saw some little tiny creatures that we got to touch and pat. My favourite one was the starfish. Then we saw a huge leopard print stingray.

Then we went to see some sword sharks and sword fish. Next we saw some great white sharks and then we saw Rex the crocodile. The members of the place fed Rex two chickens. Rex is a humongous crocodile. He is 5 metres long. Then we went to the Wild Life Park and the first thing we saw were

some butterflies and if you stood still a butterfly could land on you. One landed on my head and one on my hand. Then we went to see some kangaroos, a cassowary, devils, wombats, bats and many

more animals. My favourite one at the Wild Life park was the cassowary. By Matilda 18.6.13 On Monday we went to the Wild Life park. We saw snakes spiders and amazing animals. We went on

a bus to get there. There was a giant crocodile. His name was Rex. It had a chicken for lunch. I saw earth worms and bugs. It was gross but fun. Then we had lunch. Then we went back to school. It

was fun. By Leo Class Excursion

At the Sea Life Park I saw a Great White Shark and I saw a lazy shark. Then I saw a stingray. The stingray went upside down. It was funny. At the Aquarium it was cool. Then I saw a spider crab. It

was so cool. Our group was me and Harrison and Faith and Louise and Mrs Lanning. I saw sea dragons. They were camouflaged. It was wonderful. Then we went to the Wild Life Park. We saw

kookaburras. They were cute. I saw a port Jackson shark. It was cool. Then I saw a sword fish. I saw a crocodile. His name was Rex. Then Rex killed a chicken. It was scary. I saw a red belly black

snake. By Lachlan
