Copac reengineering

New software

New architecture

New interface

New ‘Work level’ deduplication

Page 8: Copac: your union catalogue today and tomorrow

An example of one of the new developments.

This illustrates the potential for introducing facets so you can navigate large result sets more effectively. What facets we display will be something to review with users when we redevelop the interface.

This is a test version without deduplication or presentation stylesheet.

‘Work’ level deduplication

Copac: National, Academic, and Specialist Library Catalogue FIL 29/06/10

The current deduplication that focuses on merging records for the same document held in different institutions.

• This will continue, but in addition we are exploring work level deduplication • Work level deduplication would (try to) bring together all the records relating to a specific work. • The biggest impact would be for the relatively small number of works that exist in many forms.

For example:

1. Pride and prejudice : national stereotypes in 19th and 20th century Europe east to west / editor, László Kontler 1995. (1 record)

2. Pride and prejudice / Jane Austen (734 records)

Electronic (20) Book (630) Audio book (10) Video/film (60) Music score (50) Sound recording (20) Language: [English (670)] Date: [2001-2010 (30)] Institution: [Aberdeen (20)]
