9JUNE 2014 COPA PRACTICE GROWTH WORKSHOP Spartanova

SpartaNova wants to bring sports science into practice, by applying the latest evidence and translating it into a practical online tool and concept to be used by physiotherapists, doctors and coaching staff in their daily work with athletes and patients.

The SpartaNova workshop will demonstrate how injury prevention can be integrated into the daily routines of a team or in the professional practice or clinic of a physiotherapist working with athletes, thereby helping the athlete reach his absolute best. The workshop will give insights in the scientific background, latest research, testing protocol, test execution and material, data registration, risk profiling, prevention training, and monitoring of progress for a number of sports and injuries.

Applying an integrated prevention strategy in a team sports, with screening, training, monitoring and communication will ultimately

How to bring best available evidence on injury prevention andreturn-to-sports in your team or in your daily practice and workwith athletes, with SpartaNova.

PUTTING SPORTS SCIENCE INTO PRACTICEWORKSHOP

contribute to a reduced injury incidence and burden, higher match availability and an overall higher team performance. It has proven successful in a number of world-class football teams, Olympic committees and training centres working with SpartaNova, including Manchester United FC, the Belgian national Red Devils team, Club Brugge KV, SV Zulte Waregem and AFC Ajax.

Apart from clubs settings, SpartaNova builds a network of physiotherapists who apply the SpartaNova concept in their practice or clinic, reaching individual athletes and/or their respective teams. Also, they choose to go forward and integrate evidence-based screening, online monitoring and online training tools in their practice for supporting their athletes and their rehabilitating patients. The prevention screening supports the physio in detecting underlying risk factors for an injury, whereas the rehab

screening allows them to map the important rehab parameters to evaluate the readiness to safely go to the next rehab phase or to uptake activity again.

During the process, athletes and patients can access the online platform to consult their profile or training plan, designed for home-based training. The platform also serves as a communication tool to facilitate exchange of data between the physio and the athlete/patient for prevention, rehabilitation, monitoring or training in general.

Come and check out what the SpartaNova concept is all about and see how it can support your vision, your expertise and your way of working to bring your practice to the next level. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness SpartaNova’s introduction in the UK. We will be happy to welcome you to one of our workshops.

14 JUNE 2014 COPA PRACTICE GROWTHMDT Seminar

Join Dr Ralph Rogers MD PhD MBA for an unmissable series of seminars that explain the importance of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) when treating athletes.

Just to remind you that an MDT is composed of members from different professions with specialised skills and expertise. The members collaborate to make treatment recommendations that facilitate and ensure high quality athletic care. A team approach to management is important at all points, from diagnosis, through treatment. It also needs to be athlete centred.

In my experience, there also has to be a framework and structure from which to work from. Just like any team, there has to be a ‘team captain’ – a leader who organises and directs treatment, as well as ultimately taking responsibility.

I have brought along a few members of my team to the show to tell you their stories and to shed a bit of light as to some of the treatments they offer. Our program begins with the athlete, who will talk about the importance of having a team behind him and how communication within the team works. Then we will move to a coach to explain his role within the team and how he liaises with the medical team and the athlete. Then we move to the sports scientist who also explains how he communicates with the athlete, the coach, the doctor and physiotherapist. Of course, then we will hear from the physiotherapist who spends a great deal of time with the athlete and how he communicates with the doctor and coach. Finally, I have brought along a special guest to speak about the importance of nutrition in performance and rehabilitation. I hope you enjoy the presentations.

Dr Ralph Rogers MD PhD MBA

DR RALPHROGERS MD PHD MBAConsultant Sports And Orthopaedic Medicine

Dr Rogers’ rich and illustrious career is continuing to grow and develop. Everything Ralph has been involved in since qualifying has added value to his knowledge and experience, but there have been some impressive highlights to note. Just some of the stand-out positions Ralph has held range from his current position as the Medical Adviser to National Basketball Association (NBA) to being the Musculoskeletal Consultant to the West Midlands, Manchester and Nottinghamshire Police Forces. Not only that, but also the positions of First Team Doctor for Chelsea Football Club in their historic double winning 2000-11 season; and the Sports Physician to Warwickshire County Cricket Club and professional basketball club, theBirmingham Bullets.

Following a stellar career in which the multi-Olympian amassed over 25 medals from international championships across the world, as well as a spell as a professional footballer at Plymouth Argyle and Newport County amongst others, Darren’s retirement came in 2006. He was determined to maintain an involvement in professional sport, to help other athletes achieve their goals. The sprint training consultancy that he provides to both football clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, and rugby clubs, including Saracens & Sale Sharks, and his role with PAS fulfils this ambition.

How The Right Software Can Bring SuccessThe market in which you operate is becoming more competitive and your patients more knowledgeable and demanding. In these difficult times, it’s crucial that osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists running a modern practice can identify the factors that ensure success over the long term.

One of the major considerations when starting out is choosing the right computer software. A fully integrated practice management system can reduce paperwork, save time, and increase revenue. Some clinics spend almost as much time managing their business as they do actually seeing patients, it’s important that technology decreases that burden. Whether you’re upgrading an existing system or starting from scratch, making the right decisions now can save time and money later on.

CHOOSING THERIGHT SOFTWAREThere are a number of key considerations when choosing software. Essential features include diary management for practitioners, rooms and equipment, plus appointment reminders by text or email as well as confirmation by letter. Billing needs to be flexible with the option to invoice insurance companies directly.

You should be able to securely

record clinical information and store photos and scans, and have the ability to create your own forms and letters. Postcode lookups and online authorisation of credit card transactions are also very helpful in a busy clinic. If you get lots of enquiries through your website, you might want to link your website with your software so that leads go straight on and can be followed up immediately for better customer service and improved conversion rates.

USING YOUR PATIENT DATABASE FOR EFFECTIVE MARKETINGYour aims are simple: to attract plenty of enquiries, encourage them to come in, and then persuade them to return as frequently as necessary! You can achieve these aims by capturing data effectively and then using it to target the right people, with the right message, through the right channel. A good software package will allow you to use a combination of direct marketing

Page 29: COPA June 2014 Show Guide

29JUNE 2014 COPA PRACTICE GROWTH EXHIBITOR Article

techniques, such as targeted emails, texts and mailshots.Intrusive marketing is out, but patients always welcome carefully targeted messages on relevant subjects. Even if all you want to do is send a monthly newsletter with updates on your practice and useful tips, a modern software package should allow you to easily keep in touch with your patients.

ACCESSING INFORMATIONON THE MOVEIn the modern world, it’s essential that you can access your software whilst on the move, from an iPhone, iPad, smartphone or laptop. Many software packages offer the option of a secure hosting service. Data is held in the cloud and accessible on the move, given access to the internet.

An additional benefit of secure hosting is that software can be updated, so you know it will never go out of date. Patient data should be securely backed up without having to think about it or the possibility of hardware failure.

TRAINING, SUPPORTAND HIDDEN FEESFinally, make sure your software provider offers both initial and ongoing training in a way that is easy for you to access. Ongoing support is also crucial and should be available at a level and a price to suit your business. Be sure to look out for hidden costs, such as extra charges for basic functionality.

SO WHY CHOOSE E-CLINIC?e-clinic is the smart choice whether you’re starting out in practice, moving from paper, or upgrading your existing computerised system. Everyone from individual

practitioners to large clinics and healthcare chains uses it. You can install it on your own PC, Mac or server or choose secure hosting in the cloud. Cloud hosting means you can access e-clinic on the move from your laptop, iPad, or smartphone.

At e-clinic’s core is an intuitive clinic management package that allows fast appointment booking, flexible billing, secure recording of clinical data, complex reporting and great marketing. There’s no limit to the number of users who can securely log in, and no limit to the number of practitioner diaries you can set up. As well as booking appointments for practitioners, you can also create diaries for rooms and pieces of equipment, meaning there’s no chance of double-booking a scarce resource.

Appointments can be synched with Google Calendar, Outlook, iCal and your iPhone, meaning easy access to your diary while on the move. Reminding patients about their appointments is simple and can be done by text or email, as many days before the appointment as you wish.Billing in e-clinic is fast and straightforward. Set up a price list and charge for treatments and products, calculate profit and work out practitioner commission. Apply variable pricing, by clinic, insurance company, NHS or practitioner. You can manage stock levels and e-clinic provides barcode support and alerts when you run low of any item. You can create invoices to third parties including insurance companies and submit them electronically via Healthcode. It’s simple to generate quotations for patients and later convert them to invoices. You can even manage supplier invoices and payments within the software. When you make clinical notes, they

are logged with the date, time and practitioner. You can create your own clinical forms with check boxes, radio buttons and drop down lists, or if you prefer, we can design bespoke forms to your specification. Clinical forms also allow you to mark areas of pain or treatment onto an image of a body. You can do this using an iPad or a mouse on a standard PC. It’s also simple to attach documents including photographs, lab reports, x-rays, PDFs, emails and video clips to the patient record.

e-clinic includes a comprehensive suite of reports to help you keep on top of your business. Reporting on enquiries, appointments and financial data is simple. You can easily find out where patients come from, what treatments they’ve had and how much you’ve charged. All reports can be grouped in different ways, perhaps by practitioner, clinic or marketing source. You can view all reports as graphs or charts, making it easy to understand complex data. You can export data from your reports to Excel for further analysis, or integrate with third party reporting tools like Crystal Reports.

Larger clinics, or those which have more than one site, may also benefit from additional features like online booking, website integration and multi-clinic management.

Ensuring that your business has a stable foundation is crucial to success in this competitive market. Advances in technology have, for the first time, made the paperless practice seem within reach. Getting it right from the start is the first step to success.

Mark Lainchbury is Technical Director and founder of e-clinic and been a leading figure in practice management technology since 1997.

e-clinic is the leading clinic management package in the UK and is used by everyone from individual practitioners to hospitals and large healthcare groups. Hundreds of clients including chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists rely on the software for the smooth running of their practices.
