Israel is working with the international community and the Palestinian Authority to

advance and to streamline the approval processes for internationally funded

projects. To this end a coordination and monitoring mechanism for internationally

funded projects has been established, subject to security considerations.

The approval process for internationally funded projects:

163 internationally funded projects have been approved so far. Since the day of

the cabinet's decision 149 new projects have been approved.

The Cabinet's decision specified that projects in the fields of education, water,

sewage, housing and health would be prioritized. Projects in these fields constitute

72% of all the projects that have been approved for implementation in the Gaza

Strip.

65% of projects are implemented by the various UN agencies:

At the end of June 2011, 33 projects were complete and 59 others were in the

implementation stages. 279,781 tons of construction materials have been

transferred for these projects:

In March 2011 Israel carried out an operation to transfer aggregates into the Gaza

Strip from Sufa area, during which a section of the security fence between Israel

and the Gaza Strip was removed.

The operation lasted three weeks and was made possible by the protection of the

IDF's Southern Command. It was carried out despite Hamas' escalation of hostilities

during the operation.

While the operation to transfer aggregates lasted, approximately 250 rockets and

mortar rounds were fired at Israel.

In the framework of the operation, approximately 60,000 tons of aggregates that

had been purchased by various international organizations were transferred into the

Gaza Strip for use in approved projects.
