1Upper Valley CC HVAC/R TechnologiesThe Upper Valley Career Center is located in Piqua, Ohio 20 minute north of Dayton Ohio. In the Fall of 2005 Upper Valley JVS dedicated a 40,000 sq. ft. Science Technology expansion on the main campus and it included a newly built 3,500 sq. ft. HVAC/R lab and training center. The average number of students the last 5 years 35-40 students which includes Juniors And Seniors.

How is your program structured? Apprenticeship:We offer an apprenticeship program for those students who qualify. The qualifications are:2.5 GPA or higher95% attendance or betterRecommendations from all their academic and Career Technology teacher.

What is your job placement rates and average starting wages?93% job placement rate averaged over 5 years.56% Post-Secondary Rate. This percentage will raise next year with the blending of the apprenticeship/ Tech Prep program. Students will earn Sinclair College Credit via online pilot program which will be in place next school year. HVA 186 Modern Refrigeration Practice advantaged course. Varies $9.50 hr to $13.50 hr

What methods do you use in job placement?Employers recruit students their junior year. We like to explain it best as a Football Draft Employers scout out the students and make appointments to check on the students progress throughout the school year. Students are expected to introduce themselves to the employers when they visit the lab. Students who excel and show maturity will be the first recruited with the higher paying jobs.

Soft SkillsWhat has been the most effective method you have used to recruit students into your program? Letter sent by employers on their company letterhead. We provide a contact list with students names and address to employers and the employer do the rest! The employers are the ones who sell the program. Email distribution list of all the employers and supporters of the program. This distribution list helps communicate our needs to the employers. We send the list of students interested and who visited the program through the yearWe developed a professional recruitment video with the help of $10,000 National Dissemination Grant. The video is distributed to students, parents, and associate school counselors.

The purpose of this proposal is to request funding for an Emerson Climate Technologies Resource Center and additional training resources in conjunction with the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School. This capital support is focused on the schools new HVAC/R Lab and Training facility, to be housed in the new Science and Technology wing.

1/6/2012 12:24 PM3940Executive OverviewIn the Fall of 2005, Upper Valley JVS will dedicate a 40,000 sq. ft. Science and Technology expansion on the main campus in Piqua, OH. This expansion will include a new 3,200 sq. ft. HVAC/R Lab and Training Center.

This partnership proposal seeks to enhance the new HVAC/R facility with a state-of-the-art training center and supporting training resources to enhance learning opportunities for Upper Valley JVS students, as well as Emerson Climate Technologies training programs.

This proposal is requesting $200,000. This capital funding will be used to construct and equip an Emerson Climate Resource Center for training and to support additional HVAC/R lab training resources. None of these funds will be used for operational expenses.

This proposal builds on a long and positive working relationship between Copeland/Emerson and the Upper Valley JVS over the past 25 years.41Upper Valley JVS Partner MeritsUpper Valley JVS is a champion of skills-based learning. 30 career programs serving 3,000 high school and adult students/year in Miami and Shelby counties.First Ohio technical center to earn Ohio Award of Excellence (Baldrige-based) Recognition.

43UVJVS and Emerson/Copeland are partners in a school- to- apprenticeship program which allows selected HVAC/R students to enter into an apprenticeship during their senior year.For the past 5 years UVJVS has provided training facilities for Copelands wholesalers and suppliers.UVJVS and Emerson/Copeland work together to recruit, educate, and retain HVAC/R students.Emerson/Copeland continues to donate equipment to the HVAC/R program to provide students with technology for up-to-date hands-on training.The job shadowing/mentoring program with Emerson/Copeland in the Product Evaluation Labs during the past 5 years has introduced many students to the excellent opportunities in our industry.
