CoolTech for Your Commission Check: Keyboards

Keyboards may not be the most exciting CoolTech recommendation we’ve had yet, but as aprogrammer at Handshake, I tend to nerd out about these things. Keyboards are one of themost important--and overlooked--computer accessories. A great, well-made keyboard can reallymake a huge difference in terms of both productivity and comfort. Here are a fewrecommendations to help you find the best keyboard for your needs.

For the person with every gadget:

The Logitech K480 Multi-Device Keyboard$49.99

The Logitech K480 Multi-Device Keyboard is great for users with multiple devices who’d like tobe able to use one bluetooth keyboard for all of them. It can wirelessly switch between threedevices using a simple dial, and it’s compatible with both Mac and Windows, as well as Androidand iOS mobile devices.

At the back of the keyboard, there’s a cradle that can hold your phone and tablet in an uprightposition, which is awesome if you’re running all three devices simultaneously. If you like havinga multi-screen experience, this is a great option. This keyboard runs on AAA batteries, with anestimated battery life of two years. To spare the environment, you may want to consider

rechargeable batteries.

For the comfort-conscious:

The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop$129.95

I’ve owned the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop keyboard, and it’s fantastic. It’s extremelycomfortable for someone who needs to type all day long, or for someone who just prioritizescomfort and wants to avoid wrist pain. Its unique shape takes into account the curve of yourfingertips so that you can move your fingers along the keyboard more naturally, and it allowsyou to keep your wrists in a relaxed position.

It’s another bluetooth keyboard, so there are no cables to worry about, and it works with bothMac and Windows. It also uses AAA batteries, but after a year of use, I still didn't have toreplace/recharge them. You may see it sold with an “ergonomic” mouse, but I wouldn’t botherwith it if you have the choice of buying the keyboard separately.

For the nerd:

The WASD CODE 87-Key Mechanical Keyboard$165.00

I’ve been using this WASD CODE Keyboard at work and at home for the past year, and it’s afavorite of keyboard connoisseurs. Its mechanical keys give each keystroke a satisfying “click,”and it also features backlit keys with seven different brightness settings, so that you cancontinue working late into the night (much to the chagrin of your friends and family).

It has hardware settings so you don’t have to fiddle with your computer’s system preferences tomake modifications. It also has the advantage of looking really cool. I’d recommend getting therubber wrist pad accessory, with which you can make this keyboard just as comfortable as theMicrosoft Sculpt we talked about above.

Whether you’re looking for versatility, comfort, or performance, these keyboards are greatchoices. If you have any questions about these recommendations, let me know in thecomments below!Post originally located at: www.handshake.com/blog/best-keyboard-cooltech
