Craft Your Cookie PitchBuild your selling pitch by writing sentences for the topics below.

    Topic Example Write Your Own

Name: Hi! My name is Rosie.

Why are you selling Girl Scout cookies?

I am selling Girl Scout cookies to earn money so that I can help people in the community that need food.

What do you hope to learn while selling Girl Scout cookies?

By selling Girl Scout cookies I am also practicing how to run my own business!

What is your selling goal? My goal is to sell 300 boxes of cookies, which is 50 more boxes than I sold last year.

How would you ask them to purchase Girl Scout cookies?

Would you like to support me and my community by buying Girl Scout cookies this year?

    Cookie Story Starters

Break the ice, build confidence, express yourself, and practice adapting by improvising creative cookie stories on the fly. Read a story prompt below then respond with your story to the prompt. It could be a true or made up story!

I was selling cookies when suddenly...

I never expected a package of cookies to…

I never expected my biggest sale would come from…

My customer said she does not like chocolate so I...

I had just sold my last package of cookies when a huge crowd came walking toward me…

Knock KnockThrough role-play you can gain confidence while practicing your selling techniques and people skills. Practice these role plays with your family, friend, or sister Girl Scout either in person or over the phone. Then, be a screenwriter to craft your own role play and practice that one too!

    Scenario One – Basic Sale

Girl Scout: Hello, my name is (first name only). I am a Girl Scout. Would you like to buy Girl Scout Cookies?

Customer: Sure. How much are they?

Girl Scout: They are $5 box, and there are eight kinds – Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbreads, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Lemonades, Girl Scout S’mores, and our new cookie the Toast-Yay!

Customer: When will they be delivered?

Girl Scout: The cookies will be delivered to you sometime in .

Customer: Do I need to pay for them now?

Girl Scout: No, you pay for them when they are delivered.

Customer: Let me look at your order form. (Hand them the order form and a pen. Customer writes in an order.)

Girl Scout: Thank you very much for your order. Have a nice day!

Scenario Two – Customer Asks How Proceeds are Used

Girl Scout: Hello, my name is (first name only). I am a Girl Scout. Would you like to buy Girl Scout Cookies?

Customer: What do you use the money for that you earn from selling the cookies?

Girl Scout: My troop uses our cookie proceeds to pay for patches and badges that we earn. This year we even plan to earn the Outdoor Journey. We also wish to do a community service project for our area that needs supplies (such as ) which we have to pay for.

Customer: Do you have a goal for the number of cookies you want to sell?

Girl Scout: Yes, I would like to sell boxes of cookies this year.

Customer: Well, let me help you meet that goal. (Customer places an order.)

Girl Scout: Thank you for supporting Girl Scouts. Have a great day!

Scenario Three – Customer Does not Eat Sweets

Girl Scout: Hello, my name is (first name only). I am a Girl Scout. Would you like to buy Girl Scout Cookies?

Customer: I really don’t like cookies and I can’t eat them, so I wouldn’t be interested.

Girl Scout: Would you donate a box or two to the local food pantry in our Cookie Share Program? By donating the cookies you would be helping out a needy family as well as my Girl Scout troop.

Customer: I’ll give them to the pantry then. When do I pay for them?

Girl Scout: All you need to do is fill out your name and the number of boxes you would like to donate and pay for the cookies now. We will take care of having the cookies delivered to the food pantry.

Customer: Sure, I can do that – let me look at your order form. (Hand them the form and a pen, and show them where to indicate this is a Cookie Share order..)

Girl Scout: Thank you for your order to support the Girl Scouts and families in our community!

People SkillsSometimes, hearing people say, “No, thanks” is a part of selling any product. Use each “no” to learn more about customers. Customers often give you clues about what they want when you talk to them. Listen closely and be ready to respond with a suggestion or follow up question to close a sale. Think about what you might say if a customer said one of these things:

“My kids aren’t at home anymore, they’re in college.”

“I don’t eat cookies because they aren’t healthy.”

    “I really don’t like chocolate.”

    “I really don’t like chocolate. “

“You know, I sold cookies when I was a girl.”

“I already bought a box from the girl down the street.”

“I can purchase cookies for less money at the

    grocery store.”
