conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Queensland Lutheran Schools Single

Enterprise Agreement 2016.

OUR COLLEGE

Concordia Lutheran College is a K-12 coeducational school with a rich history that spans over

seven decades, a strong sense of community and comprehensive educational opportunities

across three campuses.

A Concordia, a vibrant community comes together to offer an outstanding education for each

individual child. Our learning frameworks are designed to make the most of the coeducational

environment where boys and girls can work together and separately, learning to value their

Concordia Lutheran College consists of three beautiful campuses in Toowoomba, Queensland,

Australia. There are two Junior College campuses, each with a dedicated kindergarten and Prep

to Year 6 learning program. Our Middle and Senior College campus is for students in Years 7 to

12.

Concordia Lutheran College offers boarding for boys and girls. Our Learning in Residence

program provides students with a modern boarding experience with dedicated after-hours study

support utilising experienced tutors and pre-service teaches from the University of Southern

Queensland. Our boarders are housed in the same boarding precinct with separate boarding

houses for girls and boys.

Outdoor Education is a highlight of many students time at Concordia. Students in Year 9 embark

on a four-week outdoor education experience that gives them the opportunity to learn outside

the classroom and to cope with the pressures of life such as dealing with responsibilities, failure

and success.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Cook / Chef

College Team: Catering Tenure: Fixed Term Hours: Part-Time

32 hours per week School Term Time 12:00pm – 6:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Friday 11:00am – 6:30pm Wednesday and Thursday

1. Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the College’s strategic plan The College has a full catering team to plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals to the Boarding student cohort, and ad-hoc internal functions. The role of Cook / Chef is integral in supporting students in their residential care.

2. Reporting / Working Relationships The Cook / Chef works as part of the College Catering Team and reports to the Catering Manager.

3. Statement of Key Outcomes & Associated Activities Food preparation

• Prepare and serve all meals that are required during shift in accordance with the approved menu and as directed by the Catering Manager.

• Ensure the preparation and presentation of food in accordance with food handling standards. • Ensure uniformity, consistency, flavour and presentation of all meals to a high degree of excellence. • Ensure food allergies and intolerances are adequately catered for and extreme care is taken to

eliminate cross-contamination. • As part of the Food Safety Program, prepare and serve all meals at the correct times and log

temperatures, including food for functions, tuckshops, early/late dinners etc. Storage of food items

• Assist in putting away and storage of commodities when delivered. • Clean and maintain all food storage areas, including the refrigerators, cool rooms and freezers to an

exceptional standard of cleanliness and hygiene. • As part of the Food Safety Program ensure temperature control, logging of temperatures, food dating

and labelling, and stock rotation is being undertaken in all areas of food and commodities storage on a daily and weekly basis.

Cleaning

• Clean and maintain all food storage areas to a standard acceptable to the Catering Manager and in accordance with legislative standards.

• Ensure the service counters are kept clean and tidy throughout the service. • Consistently follow kitchen nightly area rotation and cleaning procedures that have been

implemented by the Catering Manager. • Follow kitchen end of term cleaning procedures that have been implemented by Catering Manager. • As part of the Food Safety Program, ensure cleaning sign off sheets are being filled out and signed. • Ensure the kitchen is maintained to an acceptable degree of cleanliness and hygiene as reported

by the Local Council, Environmental Health and Safety Officers (EHO Health Inspectors).

5. Classification Level Concordia Lutheran College is a school of the Lutheran Church of Australia, and terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Queensland Lutheran Schools Single Enterprise Agreement 2016. This position is classified as a Schedule 12 employee, Level 3.

Workplace Health and Safety • Ensure that only the highest standards of personnel hygiene are observed. • Promptly report potential safety hazards to the Catering Manager and adhere to all College safety

policies and procedures. • Promptly report any unsafe practices that staff may need training/retraining for. • Regularly monitor staff compliance with safety policies and procedures.

Other

• Provide planned and ad-hoc relief for the Catering Manager as required. • Provide planned and ad-hoc relief for other Chef/Cooks on the roster as required. • Actively participate in ordering, account processing, rostering, budgeting and menu planning. • Promptly report any complaints by customers to the Catering Manager. • Support the training, monitoring, supervision and instruction of other kitchen staff. • Set a consistently high standard to all other staff, including kitchen and personal hygiene,

consistently following procedures, and carrying out work efficiently, responsibly and reliably. • Assist in implementing and maintaining a Food Safety Plan • Cafeteria service and Intilli Smart operation at lunch meal time. • Comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures, applicable to the role. • Participate in professional training that you may be required to undertake and as requested by the

Catering Manager. • In addition to, and in conjunction with the above, perform such other duties as may be directed by

the Head of College (or delegate) from time to time, having regard to qualifications, training and experience.

4. Key Attributes and Experience

• Cook / Chef qualification. • Current Blue Card (issued by Blue Card Services, Queensland). • Current driver’s license. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with all members of

the community, both internal and external in a courteous and professional manner, and portray a welcoming atmosphere, friendly disposition and helpful nature.

• Demonstrated ability to demonstrate initiative, drive and a strong sense of professionalism. • Flexible and responsive to the needs of the College community and driven to achieve the best

outcomes for the College and its students. • Ability to work efficiently and flexibly including being available to work extra or varied hours as

negotiated when required. • A commitment to support the Christian Lutheran ethos of the College.
