ABOUT THE WORKSHOP The Department of Physics, National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NITT) is organizing a two days workshop on “Recent trends in Materials Research” focusing on various functional materials synthesis, characterization and applications. It is also planned to invite eminent speakers working in this area to address the several issues related to functional materials and their applications. The faculty members, research scholars, scientists drawn from various univer- sities and institutes will form a broad frame work for this workshop. This workshop will also address the interdisciplinary materials research. The outcome of this workshop will certainly be beneficial to the participants to look beyond their area of activities . The institute is an example of cultural unity with students drawn from most of the states in the country. The hallmark of the campus is the good facilities which cater to the academic and extra curricular interests of the students. The institution offers Under Graduate courses in ten branches and Post Graduate courses in twenty one disciplines of Science, Engineering & Technology besides Ph.D. in all the Departments. NITT is well connected by road, rail and air. In and around the campus there are several pilgrims and monuments worth to visit. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT It is one the premier Department comprising of 14 faculty members working in the diversified areas of research and collaborating with National and International labora- tories of high repute. Sponsored research projects funded by DST, CSIR, DRDO,BRNS,NRB etc are being carried out in the Department. Besides, our Depart- ment is sponsored by DST under FIST programme. The Department is offering M.Sc, M.Tech and Ph.D programmes. The M.Tech-NDT programme offered in our Depart- ment is similar to the programme of Brunel University (UK) . FACILITES Major scientific and analytical equipments are commissioned in our Institute to carry out analysis and characterization.
