THE NATURE OF ROM COMS

Romantic comedies are formed around humours

and dramatic storylines, they are based around the

‘perfect relationship’.

Rom-coms are a sub genre that takes traits from

both romantic and comedy films.

The films are mainly aimed at females between the

ages of 13-40.

The films are commonly watched at sad points in

someone's life, for example, break-ups.

BASIC PLOT OF ROM-COMS

First a man and women meets, there are usually songs played over and either zoom- ins of the people’s reactions or a symbolic way the film shows that there is a connection. Which is sometimes reviewed later after the dilemma.

There is then, obstacles for the couple to fight, for example; they aren’t right for each other, one is already in a relationship, one is pregnant or even just as simple as an argument.

Through-out the entire film there are always clues left that the couple are destined to be together, that they are in true love.

Just after the middle of the film, one of the two people discovers that they should be together and attempts almost anything for that to happen.

At the very end of the film there will be a climax, which is when they lie eyes on each other again, this is when they declare their love for each other and live happily ever after.

The comedy elements are then added in throughout the film, generally in different ways depending on the director
