SCORE! NCLEX® Championship Bowl

The idea to hold student nurse competitions has grown over the last several years in many regions across the state. Many of the regional contests are held in the spring, giving senior nursing students another way to prepare for the NCLEX® exam. The 2007 SNAP Board of Directors thought that having a competition at the state convention each year would be another opportunity for nursing students to participate, while instilling a little good-hearted competition between the various schools of nursing across the state. The first state competition was held at the 2008 Annual Convention.

Teams from various nursing programs from across the Commonwealth will compete Wednesday for the honor of being named champion of the 2016 SCORE! NCLEX® Championship Bowl! Thanks to Einstein Healthcare Network, there will also be a monetary award, along with the beautiful championship silver bowl, which the winning team will keep until next year's event. Lehigh Valley Health Network is also sponsoring refreshments for the event. Teams will be selected on a "first come, first served" basis. Teams are made up of five participants and one alternate. The preliminary rounds will run from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The championship rounds will begin at 7:00 p.m. For more information or to register a team from your school, please email [email protected]. We will forward the official Championship Bowl registration form, which must be submitted in order to have a team compete.

Last year's champion was Temple University! Will they win again or will your chapter become the new champion? Make sure to plan on attending and cheering on your team! It's an exciting and stimulating event for everyone, not just those with their hands on the buzzers!

SNAP Welcomes Our Keynote Speaker Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR, FAAN

“Nursing: Discover the

Prism of Possibilities”

Many SNAP members are very familiar with Ms. Patton, fondly known as Becky. She served as president of the American Nurses Association (ANA) from 2006 to 2010 and served for as the ANA Consultant to the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) Board of Directors from 2012 to 2016. We were all very pleased that Becky received the NSNA Honorary Member Award, the highest distinction given by the NSNA Board, at the 2016 Annual Convention last April.

Becky has a very rich nursing history. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University and a Master of Science in Nursing from Case Western University. She currently is a nurse educator at the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western. As the Lucy Jo Atkinson Scholar in Perioperative Nursing, she develops, instructs and coordinates the Perioperative nursing program in the Bachelor of Science program.

Becky is very involved in various nursing organizations. Including her years as ANA president, she also served on the ANA Board of Directors and served as ANA Treasurer. In addition, she has served in several positions in the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA) and on an Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses task force on competencies.

One of Becky’s passions is her interest in the legislative process and political action. She knows how important it is for all nurses to take an active role in the political process. Thus, she will also be offering a workshop on this subject on Thursday afternoon.

Please join us in welcoming Becky to the SNAP Convention!

SNAP CHAMPION SPONSOR: Holy Spirit Hospital—Geisinger Health

SNAP is very pleased to announce that Holy Spirit Hospital—Geisinger Health is supporting SNAP throughout the year by agreeing to be a CHAMPION Sponsor! We sincerely appreciate their being a partner with us to provide our membership outstanding leadership and networking opportunities.

Please stop by their booth, which is easily found in the front of the other exhibits. Holy Spirit Hospital—Geisinger Health is also sponsoring an afternoon refreshment break for all attendees. The break will be in the exhibit hall close to their table on Thursday afternoon.

Be sure to thank them for their outstanding contributions to our convention & organizational experiences!
