DESCRIPTION

ALLIED CRANE - NAVY SHIPBOARD CRANE"Finding a manufacturer that has the combined ability to develop test strategies as well as manufacture our product was essential for the success of Allied System's Crane project. ControlTek engineers have practical design experience and considered our test requirements up front instead of as an afterthought. ControlTek also provided skilled manufacturing technicians and dedicated test engineers to ensure every product meets our strict quality guidelines. We could not have been more happy with how the project turned out."

About Allied Systems

Allied Systems Company was founded in 1976 as a fabricator of material handling equipment for the wood products industry. Since that time, Allied has expanded greatly and now owns several different product lines, including Allied Marine Crane, Allied Winch, Wagner Chip Dozer, Wagner Coal Dozer, Wagner Lumberjack, Wagner Steel Handler, Long Reach Attachments, and Freeman Hay Handling Equipment.

ControlTek understands that there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer to product testing. We pursue a wide range of testing options to ensure our customers product test requirements are met without fail.

The Allied Crane Controller project involved the development of a sophisticated microcontroller system to manage the function of a shipboard crane. The test challenge was to develop an economical solution to test low volume controllers to verify operation.

A PC based test was developed utilizing our National Instruments Test Lab system. To facilitate testing, an internal test engineer coordinated with the design team to include embedded firmware to communicate with the test PC.

In parallel with the test program development, ControlTek mechanical engineers designed and deployed a test fixture to assist with the testing process. The test fixture assists with the connection to the device under test (DUT) and integrates auxiliary components for systems required to support the test. The opportunity for ControlTek’s design team to partner with in-house test, mechanical and manufacturing engineers makes the test phase of any project economical and efficient.

ControlTek’s ability to balance economic demands with a desirable test strategy is made possible through the skills, experience and depth of our design team and complimentary engineering staff.

In Circuit Testing

ControlTek has an on-site HP 3070 in circuit tester (ICT). The HP 3070 device utilizes the latest strategies for ICT, including the patented Test Jet capability. This is a great strategy for high volume assemblies.

Functional Testing

ControlTek test engineers create and conduct functional tests that can simulate the products working environment and verify its ability to perform.

Mechanical Design of Fixtures

The mechanical design of test fixtures is an integral part of an effective test procedure. ControlTek’s in-house mechanical design team is up to the challenge of providing well-planned accurate mechanical designs while keeping in mind the customer’s budget.

Manufacture of Fixtures

Our in-house technicians & production personnel provide an unlimited resource to build test fixtures. ControlTek has established solid relationships with several key vendors (machine shops, injection molding, etc.) that provide additional support as well.

Environmental Testing

During design validation, ControlTek often includes significant environmental testing on products. We have in-house capabilities to test for temperature and EMC compliance. We also have relationships with numerous test providers in the areas of agency compliance (U/L, CSA, FDA, etc.), vibration, shock, moisture, and altitude.
