Part A User’s Manual

1 IntroductionThis manual describes the components and connections of the SageGlass® control system, and will guide you through its installation.

We recommend that installers review the contents of this guide and also familiarize themselves with their job-specific wiring diagram prior to arriving onsite.

2 Overview of the SageGlass System SageGlass® dynamic glazing is controlled by the SageGlass Control System. SageGlass insulating glass units (IGUs) tint and clear automatically based on predetermined inputs, or can be controlled manually by the building occupants using SageGlass Switches.

2.1 System Components

Figure 1 shows the overall layout of the SageGlass control system. SageGlass IGUs connect to the Control Panel

via Pigtails, Frame Cables and 12-Conductor Cables. In some cases, the wiring joins in Terminal Boxes, and in others it runs directly from the IGUs to the Control Panel. SageBus™ Cable connects the SageGlass Switch to the Control Panels. Interior Light Sensors connect to either the Terminal Box or the Control Panel.

The power sources are UL Listed, Class 2 high-reliability units, ensuring safety and permitting cost-effective Class 2 wiring methods. All cable is low voltage DC, plenum-rated cable.

Additional System ComponentsComponent Function12VPower Supply The 12V Power Supply is UL listed, NEC Class 2, which provides

safe, low-voltage power from the AC mains for use with Sage-Glass System Integration Modules and Switches.

24VPower Supply The 24V Power Supply is UL listed, NEC Class 2, which provides safe, low-voltage power from the AC mains for use with Sage-Glass Controllers and I/O Cards.

Backplane The Backplane provides the electrical and mechanical mounting position for up to four SageGlass Controllers or I/O Controllers. The Backplane provides 24V to the Controller boards and pro-vides termination locations for Frame Cables, Sensor Cables and 12-Conductor Cables.

I/O Controller The I/O Controller provides general purpose input and output lines that can interface with external components such as relays and occupancy sensors.

SageBus™ SageBus is the SageGlass proprietary CAN bus used for intercon-necting system components.

SageGlass Controller The SageGlass Controller manages the tint level of IGUs by con-trolling the DC voltage to the IGU.

Sub-pane The terminology used to describe an individual switchable section of the IGU. SageGlass IGUs will have one, two or three sub-panes.

2.2 Control Systems: Centralized and Distributed The SageGlass system is typically designed in either a centralized or distributed architecture or a hybrid of the two, depending on the size and needs of the project. Both systems can be expanded, and both can be integrated with a building management system (BMS).

Centralized Control System The centralized SageGlass controls system allows the Control Panels to be situated in one location, up to 300 feet away from the IGUs, which simplifies placement of the controls. This configuration is typically used in projects where less than 1,200 square feet of SageGlass is being installed and also in larger systems where Control Panels cannot physically be installed near the IGUs.

The illustration on page 11 shows an example of how a centralized control system could be configured. In this example, one Control Panel is mounted in a central location inside of the building’s utility closet where other build-ing controls are housed. 12-Conductor Cables run from the Control Panel to the Terminal Boxes, each of which is located in one of the three rooms where the SageGlass IGUs are installed. Frame Cables exit the Terminal Boxes and connect in the glazing pocket to the IGU Pigtails. The Terminal Boxes can also connect directly to the Interior Light Sensors which reside in each room. If the total wire length is less than 125 feet, the Frame Cable can con-nect directly to the Control Panel, eliminating the terminal box. SageGlass Switches – for manual control – are connected in daisy-chain fashion using SageBus Cable.

SageGlass offers three different sizes of Control Panels, each of which can control a different number of IGUs. Each large Control Panel, for example, can accommodate up to 2,000 square feet of glazing.

Distributed Control System With this configuration, multiple Control Panels are located throughout the building. For larger projects, this results in lower installation costs. As shown in the illustration below, the Control Panels are sited as close as possible to the IGUs, for example, above suspended ceilings or in closets. They may be mounted in a plenum area or flush mounted in a wall. The Control Panels connect to the IGUs (or to the Interior Light Sensors) via the Frame Cable which attaches in the glazing pocket to the IGU Pigtail.

Panels are connected in daisy-chain fashion, along with SageGlass Switches using the SageBus Cable.

3 Safety

3.1 Service/MaintenanceAlways verify that power is de-energized to the Control Panel before removing the AC cover and servicing any AC-side components.

3.2 Warning SymbolThe below symbol means that a dangerous voltage is present.

4 Installation Prerequisites

4.1 Environmental Considerations Store materials in original packaging, protected from exposure to harmful environmental conditions, including static electricity. All cables supplied by SageGlass should be conditioned for 24 hours at room temperature prior to installation and never installed below 32 degrees F (0 degrees C) ambient temperature.

SageGlass components are not suited to external installation (except the SageGlass External Sensors), and must operate within a climate controlled setting.

4.2 Pre-Installation Information Proper and timely installation of SageGlass Control Systems depends on smooth workflow transitions between the electrical and glazing contractors working on each project. Consult the wiring diagram, this manual, and training videos for information regarding the installation of SageGlass products.

4.2a Installer QualificationsSageGlass requires installers to be capable of preparing, installing and testing similar building control systems (or previous versions of SageGlass Control Systems) to be considered a qualified installer.

4.2b Pre-Installation Meetings SageGlass recommends a teleconference or a pre-installation meeting with the following parties in attendance:• Architect• Automation engineer• Electrical contractor• Framing manufacturer• General contractor• Glazing contractor• SageGlass• Any other parties related to installation

The purpose of a pre-installation meeting is to review procedures, schedules, safety, permits, etc., and coordinate with other elements of the projected installation.

4.2c Wiring Diagram The wiring diagram included with the SageGlass Control System typically contains information regarding: • Cabling details for SageGlass installation• Electrical requirements • IGU locations • Individual termination points for all connections • Physical locations for sensor installation • Point to point cable drawings

4.3 Unpacking/Initial Inspection Unpack and verify that the Control Panel and all other items ordered are present and undamaged.

Notify SageGlass if any materials are damaged or missing. Call SageGlass for technical support at 1-877-724-3321, or send an email to: [email protected].

4.4 Rough-In SageGlass recommends rough-in installation of Control Panels, Terminal Boxes and cables before sheetrock or other finish materials are put into place.

When the glazing and wall installation are complete, electrical contractors can terminate pre-placed cables per the wiring diagram.

Table 3 Control Panel Weight

A Control Panel must be mounted within 200 feet (60.96m) of a Terminal Box if 18awg 12-Conductor Cable is used or 300 feet (91.44m) if 16awg 12-Conductor Cable is used. If Frame Cables are run directly to the Control Panel, the Control Panel must be within 125 feet (38m) of the IGUs. Consult the wiring diagram to determine the cable type used.

SageGlass recommends removing the Carrier Plate, if present, from the Control Panel prior to installation.

The AC side of the Control Panel consists of the AC side wiring, which is the input to 12V and 24V power supplies, and the disconnect switch.

5.2 Control Panel PlacementControl panels can be placed in plenum or wall areas within a conditioned space. Control panels must attach to a mounting surface that can support a fully assembled Control Panel’s weight. See Table 3 for maximum weights of each panel size.

*Maximum sq. ft. is dependent on cable distance between control panel and IGU. Maximum IGUs is dependent on the size of the IGU and the cable distance between the control panel and IGU .

5.3 Control Panel Installation

5.3a Remove the Carrier Plate To remove the Carrier Plate, remove the retaining screws (see Figure 6). Keep the screws as they will be used for replacing the Carrier Plate. Use the two handles to lift the Carrier Plate and remove it from the Control Panel enclosure.

5.3b Mount the Control Panel Enclosure Use appropriate screws and washers provided by SageGlass to mount the enclosure securely. Insert the screws through the washer and enclosure’s recessed holes into the mounting surface.

The number of mounting screws required depends on the panel size. The large panel requires six, the medium panel requires five, and the small panel requires four. See Figure 7 for locations of mounting holes on each panel.

5.3c Install the Carrier PlateTo install the Carrier Plate, first locate the mounting screws. If the Carrier Plate was shipped separately from the Control Panel, the screws will be attached to the Carrier Plate. Use the two handles to place the Carrier Plate into the Control Panel enclosure, making sure the orientation is correct.

Once the plate is in place, align the mounting screw shown in Figure 7 by the arrows first, and then secure the screw. The remaining screws will align easily after securing this corner.

5.3d Add AC CoverNOTE: After wiring the AC per section 7.1 verify the power is de-energized prior to adding the AC cover. The AC Cover must not be installed or removed when power to the panel is turned on. Attach the narrower of the two covers, the AC cover, to the left side of the cabinet first. Slide the panel tabs into the slots on the Control Panel enclosure.

Align the hole in the foot of the AC cover with the hole in the Control Panel and screw into position with the panel screws. Secure both ends of the AC cover.

Figure 8 Adding AC Cover5.3e Add DC Cover Align the DC side cover (the wider of the two covers) to the right side of the cabinet. Slide it onto the frame so the tabs of the panel merge with the AC side panel and Control Panel frame. Tighten the DC side door into position with the included thumb screws.

5.4 Surge Suppressor ConsiderationsAdditional surge suppression equipment is not required for the SageGlass equipment. Each controller card contains built-in surge protection.

5.5 Power Requirements and Load

The Control Panel must be wired to a user-supplied circuit breaker sized appropriately per the above power requirements.

6 Frame Cable Information The SageGlass Frame Cable connects SageGlass IGUs to the control system. More specifically, it attaches to the IGU pigtail (part of the SageGlass IGU) at one end and is routed through the framing system. The Frame Cable then connects directly to the Terminal Box or directly at the Control Panel.

Frame Cables can be ordered in a variety of lengths and conductor configurations to meet specific installation requirements. There are three configurations that can be ordered in three lengths. The configuration required is related to the number of sub-panes on the IGU as follows:• Three sub-pane IGUs require a four-wire frame cable• Two sub-pane IGUs require a three-wire fame cable• Single sub-pane IGUs require a two-wire frame cable

6.1 Frame Cable Distance to IGUs The IGU is located less than 125 feet away, the frame cables can be run directly to the Control Panel by using a two, three, or four wire Frame Cable.

For larger distances, a Terminal Box is required. See Table 5 which lists the maximum lengths, distance from IGU, and maximum wires for each Terminal Box.

6.2 Frame Cable LabelingFrame and sensor cables should be labeled onsite by glazing contractors; the supplied labels should be attached at both ends of the cable before the cable is routed through the glazing pocket. The labels correspond to the location/label of the IGU it will be connected to. Reference the wiring diagram for IGU location/labeling.

Use the provided labels to mark both ends of a Frame or Sensor cable with the corresponding IGU number. Route the cable to its destination.

Ensure that the pockets and holes in the glazing frame members that Frame Cables will be routed through are free of burrs and other sharp edges prior to routing Frame Cables to their destination. A SageGlass provided grommet should be used to protect the cable. A 3/8” (10mm) hole is required to install the grommet. Make sure that attached labels are legible and intact after routing.

6.4 Frame Cable ConnectingTo connect the Frame Cable to the IGU, simply align the two ends together and snap them together. The connectors are keyed so that they cannot be connected backwards. There will be an audible “snap” sound when the connection is made. To disconnect, pull the connectors apart – be sure to pull from the black shell of the connector, and not from the cable or strain relief.

6.3 Frame Cable Routing Prior to routing Frame Cables, ensure that the correct Frame Cables are used for each IGU location. Failure to do so will result in the IGUs not working properly. Refer to the wiring diagram for the correct Frame Cable to IGU mapping.

6.5 Repairing a Frame CableIn the event that a Frame Cable has been damaged during installation, SageGlass will provide a Splicing Kit to make the required repairs. If a splice or repair is required SageGlass must be notified in order to not void the limited warranty.

7 AC and DC Control Panel Wiring Overview There are two types of wiring connections within the SageGlass Control Panel: AC and DC. The following sections provide details on each of these wiring types.

7.1 AC Wiring

7.1a SafetyOnly a qualified electrician can install the AC side of the Control Panel.

7.1b Wiring the AC CompartmentRun building AC wires through a knockout into the Control Panel. Follow local electrical codes for proper AC wire routing and protection.

Separate the switch base from the knob operator by unlocking the red locking lever (Figure 14). This enables easy access to all AC wiring terminals. Then connect AC ground wire to the ground terminal (Figure 15). Connect black (hot) and white (neutral) AC wires to the appropriate terminals on the disconnect switch. Reconnect switch base to knob operator and ensure locking lever is in the lock position (Figure 16).

7.2 DC WiringDC power cables consist of:

Use SageGlass provided cables only; the low voltage cables provided are sized appropriately for each installation. Consult the wiring diagram for clarification.

7.2a DC Cable Routing When routing cables inside the Control Panel, a service loop of cable approximately half the Control Panel’s height should be left for accessibility and future serviceability.

Bundle and label all cables entering or leaving the Control Panel. Use cable ties to mount cables to the openings along the Control Panel’s side to secure individual cable groups. See Figure 17.

7.2b DC Panel Wiring When installing the Frame Cables, Sensor Cables, and 12-Conductor Cables, the wiring diagram must be followed. Each SageGlass Controller card has 12 outputs, labeled 1 thru 12, that will correspond to nomenclature in the wiring diagram (Figure 18).

In addition to the wiring diagram, there is a wiring color chart that shows possible wiring locations for two, three, and four conductor Frame Cables, and 12-Conductor Cables. Note that for a two-conductor Frame Cable, the red wire can start only at positions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11. For three-conductor Frame Cables, the red wire can start only at locations 1, 4, 7, and 10. And for four-conductor Frame Cables, the red wire can only start at locations 1, 5, and 9. Because of these restrictions, there may be output locations that are left un-terminated.

The decal is placed on the inside of the Control Panel which gives a visual representation of where the 2, 3, and 4-conductor frame cables can be wired.

For termination, remove 3/8” (1 cm) of wire insulation, then insert the wires into the spring terminals.

8 Terminal Box Installation and Wiring

8.1 Terminal Box Placement Position the Terminal Box according to the location specified by the architect; ensure that this location is within the IGUs cable length limits as defined in section 6.1. Mount the box to the selected surface with four screws (included) through the recessed holes of the Terminal Box (Figure 20).

8.2 Wiring the Terminal Box The Terminal Box serves as a bridge between 12-Conductor Cables and Frame and Sensor Cables. 12-Conductor Cables are attached to one side of the internal terminal block and Frame Cables and Sensor Cables are attached to the other side. Refer to the wiring diagram for exact locations of cables.

The wiring diagram must be followed when wiring the Frame Cables, Sensor Cables, and 12-Conductor Cables. Each Terminal Box contains four 12-position terminal blocks that will correspond to nomenclature in the wiring diagram.

In addition to the wiring diagram, there are wiring color charts that show possible wiring locations for 2-, 3-, and 4-Conductor Frame Cables, and 12-Conductor Cables. Note that for a 2-Conductor Frame Cable, the red wire can start only at positions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11. For 3-Conductor Frame Cables, the red wire can start only at locations 1, 4, 7, and 10. 9 SensorsSensors are used to provide ambient light feedback for SageGlass control system when configured to operate automatically. In response to sensors, the control system will adjust the tint level of the glazing to maintain a predetermined level of light within the space.

There are three types of sensors used within the SageGlass Control System: Interior, Horizontal Exterior and Vertical Exterior.

9.1 Interior Sensor Interior Sensors are mounted on the IGU frame facing outside (see Figure 22) to measure the external light level through the IGU. The sensor cable is run between the sensor location and its destination – either the Control Panel or Terminal Box. Typically the sensor cable is routed through the frame by the glazing contractor.

To mount the sensor, gently pry open the lens cover, then attach the Sensor Pigtail to the Sensor Cable as shown in Figure 24. Attach the sensor cover to the frame with the supplied screws. Replace the lens cover. If necessary, de-burr the opening in the frame.

9.2 Horizontal Exterior SensorThe Horizontal Exterior Sensor (Figure 25) is placed outside of the building, providing low-angle ambient light feedback to the SageGlass Controls Systems for automatic control of daylight and glare.

The Horizontal Exterior Sensor requires either a 1/2” NPT electrical fitting or can be directly mounted to most framing systems. Per the wiring diagram directions (Figure 26), mount the sensor and run a cable to the NPT gang box. A 5/8” (16mm) hole is required for passing the sensor connector through the wall panel and a 7/8” (22mm) mounting hole is required if mounted directly to a frame. Exact sensor placement will be determined on site.

10 SageBus™ Communications Cable SageBus cable is the communication cable used between SageGlass components. Specifically, SageBus is used between Control Panel to Control Panel, and Control Panel to SageGlass Switches.

This cable contains a 22 AWG, low capacitance, shielded, twisted pair for communications, and an 18 AWG pair for power.

10.1 SageBus Topology The components of the SageGlass control system must be wired in a daisy-chain configuration, see Figure 28. Termination jumpers are required on devices located at the end nodes of the daisy chained SageBus network. See section 10.2 for the location of termination jumpers on the various components. “Home runs” from the Control Panel to each SageGlass Switch are not allowed.

9.3 Vertical Exterior SensorThe Vertical Exterior Sensor (Figure 27) provides high-angle ambient light feedback and is used solely for automatic glare control. For optimal operation of automatic glare mode both the Ver-tical and Horizontal Exterior sensors need to be utilized for each elevation. At a minimum, one Vertical Exterior Sensor must be mounted per elevation and additional sensors should be added if the sensor is mounted in an area with potential shading or a curved elevation.

A mounting template and mounting screws are provided for the Vertical Exterior Sensor, providing the flexibility to mount on various types of external surfaces. A sealing gasket is pre-applied to the Vertical sensor to ensure a water-tight seal to the outside surface. A 5/8” (16mm) hole is required for passing the sensor connector through the wall panel. If the sensor is located under a soffit or overhang the height-to-width ratio must be 4 to 1 (see Detail 3). Exact sensor placement will be determined on site.

The body of the Vertical Exterior Sensor can be painted to enhance the aesthetics of the sensor. The translucent cover must be removed prior to painting and then replaced once the paint has dried. The cover must be attached in order for the sensor to receive accurate light readings.

10.2 Termination Jumpers For the SageBus network to work properly, termination jumpers are required to be placed on the end nodes of the network. Due to wiring and component differences in each installation site, the end node may be a SageGlass Controller, a SIM II, or a SageGlass Switch. Each of these components has a location for termination jumpers.

10.3 Control Panel to SageGlass SwitchSageBus cable must be used between SageGlass Switches and Control Panels. The SageBus cable is ter-minated in the Control Panel at the plug labeled “Sage-Bus OUT”. See Section 11.9.a.7 for a description of the pin-out to the plug.

Note that for proper operation there should be exactly two jumpers on any SageBus network. The project specific wiring diagram will show which devices are required to have termination jumpers populated.

See Figure 30, Figure 31, and Figure 32 for the location of the termination jumpers on each of the com-ponents. Termination jumpers are outlined in yellow in below figures.

10.3a SageGlass Switch Wiring SageGlass Switches should be daisy chained together using SageBus™ cable. Pigtails may be required to accomplish daisy chain configuration.

10.4 Control Panel to Control Panel SageBus cable must be used between Control Panels. The SageBus cable is terminated at the plug labeled “SageBus In” on one Control Panel, and “SageBus Out” on the other. Note that only three wires (White, Blue, and Black) are terminated. The red wire is not used.

11.2 Control Panel, Backplane and SageGlass Controller Numbering SageGlass Controllers and Backplanes are numbered in a specific order for coordination with the wiring diagram.

Each Backplane is given a unique number within a project. Backplanes are numbered from the bottom (closest to the SIM II) to the top, where the bottom always has the lowest number. The first Control Panel starts counting at number 1, the second Control Panel continues counting with the next available number. See Figure 34.

For example, assume there are two panels, each with three backplanes. The first panel will have Backplanes 1 through 3; the second panel will have Backplanes 4 through 6.

SageGlass Controllers are numbered 1 through 4 for each backplane, with number 1 being the top of the backplane. See Figure 35.

11 Control Panel Components 11.1 Disconnect Switch The Disconnect Switch within the Control Panel provides a method to disconnect power to the panel. The ON position and OFF positions are labeled, and shown in Figure 33.

When servicing the DC side of the panel, this switch should be in the OFF Position.

When servicing the AC side of the panel, the Disconnect Switch does not provide protection; the power to the Sage-Glass Control Panel must be de-energized at the main AC control panel.

Refer to section 7.1 for Disconnect Switch wiring instructions.

11.3 BackplanesBackplanes are mounted inside the Control Panel, and are used to distribute 24VDC to controllers and to provide termination locations for Frame Cables, Sensor Cables, 12-Conductor cables. Each Backplane can hold four SageGlass Controllers or I/O Controllers (Figure 36).

11.4 SageGlass Controller SageGlass Controllers are the key component in managing the tint level of an IGU. They take 24VDC as an input and convert this to voltage levels necessary to tint the glass. The SageGlass Controller also manages the glass when in automatic daylight mode. The controller processes the sensor data and tints or clears the glass based on the ambient light in the space.

A single SageGlass Controller can control up to six single-pane IGUs, four 2-sub-pane IGUs or three 3-sub-pane IGUs.

11.4a Temperature Control & Power Supply Load Regulation The SageGlass Controller monitors its temperature and the input power supply voltage, and limits the output power to the IGUs when thresholds have been exceeded. This ensures the internal Control Panel temperature is not exceeded, and the power supply is not stressed.

11.4b LEDsThe SageGlass Controller contains three tricolor LEDs, which are used as a visual indication of the status of the controller. The LEDs are for Power Status, Error Status, and Communication. See Figure 38 for locations of each of these LEDs.

11.5 I/O Controller The I/O Controller provides general purpose input and output lines that can be interfaced to external components such as relays and occupancy sensors.

The use of an I/O Controller is generally coupled with the SIM II. External inputs to the I/O Controller can be used by the SIM II as triggers to force tinting and clearing of the glass. Outputs from the I/O Controller are set via events from the SIM II.

Each of the 12 input/output lines can be configured to be an input or an output. Specifications for these lines are as follows:• Maximum Input Voltage: 24 volts DC.• Maximum Output Voltage: 22 volts DC.• Maximum Output Current (per output channel): 90 mA

The LED operation of the I/O Controller is slightly different than that of the SageGlass Controller. See Tables 6, 7, and 8 for a summary of the LED operation.

11.6 Power Supplies

11.6a 12VThe 12V power supply is a UL listed, NEC Class 2 power supply that provides low-voltage power to the SageGlass SIM II and SageGlass Switches.

11.6b 24VThe 24V power supply is a UL listed NEC Class 2 power supply that provides low-voltage power to the Backplanes which power the SageGlass Controllers and I/O Controllers.

11.7 SageGlass SwitchThe SageGlass Switch provides a method for users to manually control the tint level of the glass.

The SageGlass Switch can be mounted in a single or multi-gang box. The SageGlass Switch is typically located in the same room that contains the SageGlass IGUs. One or more switches can be used to control the same groups (zones) of IGUs; similarly, one switch may control multiple zones.

The SageGlass Switch contains a tint button, a clear button, and five LEDs: Automatic mode, Full Clear, Level 1, Level 2, and Full Tint. The buttons are used for controlling the glass while the LEDs show the current selected targeted tint level for the glass. See Figure 39.

The Automatic Mode indicator indicates whether the glass is in automatic mode. In this mode, the glass tint level will automatically adjust based on ambient light level. The Clear and Tint buttons are used to manually adjust the tint level of the glass. For each press of a button, the glass will be adjusted one level in the direction desired. For example, if the glass is at Full Tint, and the user presses the Clear Button, the new state of the glass will be Level 2.

When in automatic mode, any button press will take the system out of automatic mode, and force the glass to the desired level. The glass will stay at the requested state for a configurable amount of time. Typically this is set to 120 minutes. Contact SageGlass to change this time. At the end of the configured time period, the glass will revert to automatic mode. To instruct the glass to return to automatic mode prior to this time delay, press both the Clear and Tint buttons simultaneously.

A flashing LED indicates the IGUs are transitioning from one tint level to the next. The flashing will slow down as the IGU gets closer to the desired tint level. A solid LED indicates that the IGU has reached the desired tint level.

11.8 SIM II Module The SIM II is a single board computer that provides system level control over the entire SageGlass CE Control System. The SIM II provides the ability to control the tint level of glass based on a number of input triggers such as time of day, solar angle, SageGlass Switch commands as well as I/O Controller input. It is custom configurable for each installation.

The SIM II comes in three different configurations: SIM II, SIM II with BACnet and SIM II with LonWorks. Figures 41, 42, and 43 show each of these configurations.

15 Appendix Information

15.1 4-Conductor Cable A 4-Conductor Cable is used to control 3-sub-panes IGUs. The first sub-pane is controlled based on the differential voltage between the black and red wires. Note that this differential voltage may be positive or negative. Similarly, the second sub-pane is controlled by the black and white wires, and the third sub-pane is controlled by the white and green wires.

15.2 3-Conductor Cable A 3-Conductor Cable is used to control 2-sub-panes IGUs. The first sub-pane is controlled based on the differential voltage between the black and red wires. Note that this differential voltage may be positive or negative. Similarly the second sub-pane is controlled by the black and white wires.

15.3 2-Conductor Cable A 2-Conductor Cable is used to control single sub-panes IGUs. The sub-pane is controlled based on the differential voltage between the black and red wires. Note that this differential voltage may be positive or negative.

15.3a 12-Conductor Cable The 12-conductor cable is a 16 or 18AWG cable. The cable is sheathed with Plenum rated PVC, CMP/CL2P insulation which complies with the typical requirements of the NEC and applicable building codes for Class 2 low voltage DC circuits.

A 12-conductor cable is used to bridge the distance between a Terminal Box and Control Panel. The 12 conductor cable is not terminated at either end as individual wires are terminated into the corresponding color slot at the Control Panel and the Terminal Box
